I can’t even imagine what must’ve been going through Sonic’s head throughout the fight with Gmeral. Sonic already had to put Emeral down already back in Sonic Battle due to Eggman’s tampering with Emeral’s code, and now he faces a similar situation but this time, teaming up with the SAME GUY that caused Emeral that pain he endured for Sonic to put him down in the first place. Sonic must have an iron will to be able to go through all that pain again and this track really sells the reluctance to fight the battle that must be fought like it’s saying “Please…. Don’t make me do this again to you…. old friend…” Luckily Gmeral does get a happy ending with Tails repairing him and Gmeral getting to live with Cream, Vanilla, Chocola and Cheese but damn, I’d be devastated to having to fight an old friend to the death for a second time when the first was already painful enough.
