  • The year is 2026 and fatal toxins have polluted the earth’s atmosphere. Those humans lucky enough to get to the ‘Climate Emulation Centers’ in time, live in fear of the souls left on the surface-the “undead”-. The World Government has recruited drivers to deal with this problem. It’s called ‘The Carmageddon™’, a death race in which drivers’ race against each other for the ultimate prize: a new life in the sun-drenched beaches of the off-world colonies. As well as a way of dealing with the “undead”, it provides entertainment for the dwindling human population. You take on this challenge as Max Damage, a psychotic, cold-blooded killing machine. There is no second place - just life or death. Drive to survive and let nothing and no one get in your way.

FUN FACT: Contrary to popular belief, Titus Software (who developed Superman 64 and published the NTSC version of Carmageddon 64) was NOT the company developing it. The actual developer of Carmageddon 64 was Software Creations, a British developer who also worked on Nicktoons Racing (PS1), Tom & Jerry (NES), Super Monkey Ball Jr. (GBA) and the Nintendo 64 port of Hexen, as well as home computer ports of popular arcade games.
Software Creations also became one of the first in Great Britain to develop games for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES), and the first company outside Japan to develop games for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System (SNES). Software Creations was even a member of Nintendo's "Dream Team" of developing companies for its N64 system, with their notable contribution being Sound Tools, an audio component for the N64.
The studio would eventually be bought out by Acclaim in May 2002 and rebranded themselves as Acclaim Studios Manchester. Under Acclaim, they developed two more games (All-Star Baseball 2004 and Gladiator: Sword of Vengeance) until Acclaim closed their doors in 2004, taking the Manchester division with them.
