Cycle key on and off three times make sure the fluid is full in system now drive vehicle in manual mode you want very high temps and for the the def pump to clean itself with high pressure demand. 40 miles per hour in 3rd gear for about 5 to 10 mins or until oil temps rise to about 235 or so if this doesnt work repeat the steps but this time if you have a exhaust break turn it on turn traction off and tow haul mode on. You will not mess up the truck unless its chipped and straight piped at which point you wouldn’t even have these problems to begin with. No i was stuck at the 5 hour mark from home coming from Phoenix heading to norwood Colorado to pickup a 40 foot gooseneck trailer so trust me my hotshot dreams were in my stomach. I watched some regen videos heard what all you guys had to say then said 🤷🏾♂️ since its under warranty and a tow will cost a couple thousand anyway might as well try whatever. It absolutely worked and im pretty sure i wont be taking it to the dealer as the car fax shows the pervious owner already replaced the heater in the def tank. The warning light and 50 miles to 50 mph message disappeared and decided to continue to norwood to pickup my trailer. You either believe this or not but trust me these engines are solid its the def crap that sucks and i cant remove it if i wanna be DOT legal at weight stations hope this helped somone out like it did almost stranded 300 miles from home🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽
🤝👍🤝👍🤝
My 2020 f550 just popped this message up. Topped it off with fuel, cycled the key 3 times, turned on engine brake and traction control off. Then ran it down the road at the rev limiter 3400ish rpm for about 8 minute before the message cleared. Oil temp never got above 225.
Ur lucky
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod I feel lucky, companies truck fleet is thin and last thing needed was another truck in the shop.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod 2 years later 20k miles since and still never had another issue. It works and never been to a dealer and never had a check engine light
Thank you for the video on resetting DTC P207F! I downloaded FORScan and after several attempts got my 2016 F250 out of limp mode. I also did a static regen. Hopefully I'm out of the woods.
Thanks again!
I just followed this video in live time, and it worked! I’ve been at this for days
I dont bullshit
I've had a couple trucks in, needing to clear that fault and following that procedure. It is a royal PITA to get it out of that derate. I've also had my fair share of being unsuccessful the first go around. I don't know about you, but I have difficulty finessing my right foot on the accelerator to keep it constantly in the specified RPM range to achieve the temperature required. I've thought of pirating an old accelerator and gutting the spring inside to fabricate a little lever in its place to hold it at those RPMs instead of having to sit there like that.Something else to add, it wouldn't be a bad idea to clear all the SCR and NOx tables too, in order to reduce the likelihood of having the Exhaust Fluid Fault reappear shortly after. I find it seems that trucks which have a much higher engine hour count in proportion to vehicle driven mileage seem to have more of these problems.
Thank you so much for this video, I have been able to reset the engine idled condition on a 2014 F-250 6.7L that had this issue. Keep doing your good work, very helpful !!
If i helped you out, help me help everyone else. Drop by my paypal👍👌

Filled up the def. Cleared all codes with a cheap scan tool. Was driving to ford to drop it off “about 20 miles”, and the light went out. 🎉🎉
What was the scan tool u go to advance auto
Man these new diesels are scary. I guess that’s why the value of older diesels keeps going up.
wow, 2 videos in the last few days after a 2 week drought! love it!
+M Cool thank YOU
Thank you for responding back to me I figured out the problem it was the cylinder head sensor cylinder head temp sensor
I’m sitting here with a 2015 f350 that I started the procedure to clear the forced engine idle and yeah my laptop died I had no idea what my temps were at that point so Round1 fail, and I simply decide to let cold soak overnight I’ll deal with it in the morning, Then I remembered I can watch pids in real time on my phone, but alas it was too warm so I’ll wait till morning. On my phone I have FORScan Lite and a few other things but this works best it’s only for Ford, my laptop I has FORScan. this is literally the first time I was using it on the laptop so I’m still in the learning curve. it does have a ton of procedures/ resets that it will run for you. I use both with a plugin adapter that can natively read the can-bus and the HS-can-bus.
A small update this morning I hooked up to the truck KOEOFF configured my pids I didn't bother with EGT13 as this is a wide frame, started the truck confirmed the aat and reductant tank temp was above 23 f and revved it till it got to 200f idled it yeah it took all 90 seconds and maybe more for the dosing cycle to begin, it finished and I revved it between 2000 and 2,500 yeah it took a little while to get it up on egt14 to.... it cleared the light when it got up to around 311f all fixed. I'm sure I caused this all by myself when I'm at home I fill up def at the pump but I'm on the road so it's coming out of bottles. This is the first time for me it probably won't be the last but it did take 8 years to happen. Now I'm going to go turn on the daytime running lights.
best video on this subject i've seen. perfect step by step.
Thank u sir
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod other videos were so not spot on for this issue.
I have to say Ford really dropped the ball on this. I’m in a heavy traffic area and it was not fun driving it through the duty cycle.
Tell me about it
the info on the fill strategy was excellent - I did not know it worked like that. From now on I'm gonna keep dem der def topped off! THANKS
been reading alot about DEF since my 97 f250 7.3 PS does not use it and i know have a 23 f450 ho 6.7. you are the first one that states to fill def tank completely. i had planned to add 2'5 gallons when the tank got down to about a quarterfull because i didn't want the def to get old setting in the tank. i am trying to save the new truck for trips, etc and use the 97 daily. is it a bad idea to just add the 2.5 gallons when needed. thanks and i am a subscriber!
do i have to remove this before deleting?
Thank you for responding back I figured out the problem
+Scott Niles no problem, glad i could help
Thanks Bro we now have several 6.7's at my job. Drivers always just put the DEF that they have available not necessarily filling the tank. I'll have to let them know.
+Paul Rodrigues 👍👍
Just dropped my 16 350 off for this ,been 2days no word. Still under warranty 👍
Hope they fix it for ya!
Arod i had 2 trucks back to back with filter collapse the brands are STP i guess from the Quick lube and it damages the MAF.
That was alot of help I just did everything you did with out a computer just follow wat you did and it worked thank you so much for the viedo
Hell yeah🤝
What software and computer are you using for this? Dealer told me 3 weeks before they could look at it. Exact same issue I am having after filling with def. Any help is appreciated. Frustrated!
Ford IDS software. You can use Forscan too.
Good grief! 3 weeks where do you live?
This works for the "50mph limited" mode as well. Thanks!
Thought I'd add the details of the problem.
Code P207F 270,000 miles. Replaced both original NOx sensors, after confirming proper def pump pressure, quality, and proper spray quantity out of the nozzle. Looked inside EGR cooler, soot deposits looked normal. Cleaned oil/carbon off throttle body since I was there
After the warning message was reset, the truck was getting about 120 ppm NOx on the inlet and 7-15 ppm on the outlet cruising at 70 mph. No codes so far
Have you encountered the service filter now message on the 2020+ powerstroke? Have a 22 with that message, had dpf professionally cleaned and still have the message and the engine code will not clear I’ve tried Matco and Snapon scanners will not run a regen and stuck in limp mode.
Gonna need a dealer level scan tool that can access those faults
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod copy so texta and none of the other big brands will be able to clear it.
Could you explain to us why Ford/EPA requires such a complicated process to reset the error and not simply refill the tank and clear the code.
Because there is more than one reason the fault code can be set. You need to eliminate the other reasons for the fault code that could include something like a sensor malfunctioning. In this case, the reason for the fault code was related to how the truck was refilled with DEF - but, that's not always the case. In the 2019 trucks it appears Ford may have changed the sensor as the DEF fill level gauge goes down gradually (like a fuel gauge) as the DEF is used, and not in large jumps like from full to 1/2. In my 2011, there was no way to read the DEF level. You simply got an indication on the information screen that the truck had 800 miles before it would go into the de-rate mode. That was the warning it was almost empty and needed to be refilled.
Is there anything that I can do to know when she is done with cleaning mode instead of always driving 30 mins plus all the time. Thanks
There will & is an "Exhaust filter cleaning completec message displayed in the IC. You can check out my latest videos about how to turn on OCR!!! Check em out homie!!😉👍
Can this be done with a snap on modus scanner
Excellent video. Great information to.....always fill the def tank to full. I usually don’t let my def tank go past half way.
+Steven Ruble thanks for watching
Mine often won’t register it’s been filled even though it’s overflowing. I can run it near empty and put in two jugs and it often won’t register. Should have had an actual gauge from the factory.
Broski it needs to be reset with my computer. It has gotten out of its strategy of how it calculates its full
PowerStroke Tech Talk w/ARod Hey bro i have a 6.7 2013 F250 saying exhaust fluid / System fault , And reduced power engine / I tried to do a dynamic regen but it says failure engine didnt get hot enough
I guess im confused as to what your question is...
We had pin spreading at PCM due to a mechanic at a different shop jamming something in there to test with, then cutting wires that should not have been cut at all.... El Butcho El Chopo
Fill with DEF...Clear codes..Do not have to drive.....Hold to 2500 Rpms for 6/10 mins will accelerate up about 2900 rpms after 6/10 mins on its own and will reset ...Manual Regen...This will fix dead pedal and clear error....
SUCCESS! I did this tonight but used an Operator Commanded Regen instead of manually holding the throttle pedal. Drove for 10 minutes afterward, shut the truck off, and then back on, and the error was clear! Thanks for being one of the only people I've found in all of the comments to suggest this!
This comment got me fixed. Used forscan/obd2 cleared DTC codes, filled DEF, ran about 2500 rpms (parked) for 17 minutes, rpms increased gradually but also quickly up to 3100 over the span of 10 more min, oil temp approximately 230 (if i recall), code went off after about 27 min automatically
Does it need to be in limp mode in for this procedure to work?
@dgrisham6868 yea
What if the warning comes up and were not out if DEF just refilled DEF a week ago and only drove less than 500 miles. Still had 20 miles of the count down left when i pulled up to DEF pump. This has been a reoccurring issue with my 2015. Delaership has already replaced pcm, pcm harness, reductant pump, reductant harness. Getting expensive
Any ideas why i keep getting a exhust fluid system fault warning?
What code r you getting & why did they replace all that!?!?
I just got a speed limit at 55mph within 150 miles. A check engine light as well with two codes p207F and p0401. Before this happens, the truck was self-cleaning the exhaust filter but I accidentally turn off the truck while that was performance. I don't know if that happened because of that or something else. ??
If you need diagnosis you'll have to get inline & come with $$$ my time is no longer free. Sry, just business....
Interesting - I have been driving my 2011 for many years and just recently had an issue where it seemed like it couldn't tell how full the DEF tank was. Initially (years ago) I would try to fill the DEF tank - which was always messy because I couldn't add a full 5 gallons. so was always spilling over.
Then I decided just to add a 2.5 gallon jug every time I got down to the 800 mile warning. That had been working perfectly with no issues until very recently.
I added 2.5 gallons and soon after I got the 800 mile warning again!
Wasn't sure what to try - so I decided to top off the tank and wee what would happen. That made the 800 mile warning go away - and I haven't seen anything since (but it hasn't been very long).
I just heard you say in this video that I should have been filling up all the time?
Since I have replaced EVERYHING in the DEF system at least once (except the plastic tank itself) - I know that there are three rods that it uses to do a very rough fluid level measure.
I was afraid that one of those was malfunctioning on mine - and that may be. Just thought I'd ask you if you have ever seen or heard of this.
Seems like DEF corrodes and kills everything over time. The heater unit has the rods (as you know). I am not getting a code on that - but thinking the level sensor bits may be failing.?.?.?
You are correct. However that part with the rods...is also the level sender. You'll have 2 replace the guts with OE parts. Nice description of your issue. Sounds like you've been reading the theory and operational manual...nice bud 🙋♂️
So how do you know when its full my 2011 ford doesn’t have a fill monitor until it tells you do you just let it spill out of the fill port I’m getting a def sender error on mine
I have I have a 2012 6.7 L I had gotten a message warning exhaust fluid level low I always keep my tank full so I don't know if I let it get down to low or what but I had that message for about 4-5 months but my truck was fine and then just today I get a new message that tells me exhaust level sensor I hope I can just get out the whole system reset and not have to put a whole new sensor in going to take it to the dealership tomorrow I hope they don't rob me
Will I had same error on my 2012.. sensor high level reading or something - did you get it fixed and how
In order to protect the environment, we run at high idle for extended periods of time to reset and clear DEF error messages. Seems ironic. ;-)
Thank u uncle sammy
Yep - hilarious. Lots of well meaning folk don't foresee the unintended consequences.
There is a shit ton of problems with out healthcare and insurance for the same reason.
I'd be willing to be that a lot of people think that the DEF tank acts like a gas tank does with a float. Hopefully some will take note of this
+Screamin Demon i hope so
I have a 2016 that has idle locked a few times now. Trying to learn about the SCR and how to resolve these types of issues. The first time it idled I got a very similar square wave pattern to the video on the reduct_inj_DC pid, now its getting sloppier with longer waves and more irregular in nature. Anyone know if thats a sign of dirty/bad injector? I've drained and replaced the fluid and was good for few hundred miles, now back to being idled.
Your not doing somethin correct Jonathan
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod It works though, which is odd. In fact in the last five minutes I've pulled the truck out of idle mode. I guess its still a square wave, just longer duration. I still need to resolve the "why" of why this keeps happening, but we're getting there, huge thanks to your videos.
@@PowerStrokeTechTalkwARod follow up part 2: the waves are flat topped, but the trailing edge may have a more dramatic slope and the pattern itself is irregular. Rather than a nice consistent /'\../'\../'\../'\ it may go /'''''''''''\............../'\/'\......./''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''\. Rough description of a wave pattern, but if it helps anyone to see it's weird looking for me, then great.
good video should you do the same procedure for wide body vehicle
Wide body what?
wide frame and narrow frame vehicle
I use auto enginuity. Will that work to perform these step. Iv noticed auto enginuity doesn't have a trubble shooting option like the ford software does.
Not sure
Can you help me clear that message. I got put in the middle of the situation because I do tunes. The truck came in with that message. It has already egr and def delete. No tune can clear the message. it even came back after replacing the pcm. Solution I gave the client was to re-put everything back on with good condition parts and do the regeneration if he really want to get the message off

Where can somebody buy the IDS software?
So I pretty much knew about this system when I got my 2015 in nov,2014 and read up on it I’ve never had an issue with it other than a couple of def heaters and froze the system up once when I jumped on the freeway when it was slushy and stupid cold out I was out plowing and pretty much froze the entire underside of the truck so I got the 50 miles till speed limiting, Plowing was over for that storm. Upon restart The PCM forgot that there was an issue I just drove south I got all the way to I Louisville Tn from Milwaukee and the ice pack fell off the bottom of the truck and the issue was over🤣 Yeah I think I had cabin fever😇 , jump forward 4 years to now and I have started to decide that the DEF system had lost its mind speed limit warnings ect… all fixing themselves so I filled it all the way up and told it that it was full (via FORScan)i dont think it cared or listened and now about a week later I’m at Forced engine idle. In the morning I will run through this procedure as many times as I have to to allow it to rediscover it pea sized brain. That said i always put 2.5gal at half full however this last time around I probably helped it lose its mind after nine months of it not asking for any def I I want ahead and put 2.8 gallons in at the pump.
Dealerships have proprietary tools in regards to diagnostic and scan type tools. .
With that in mind and $125 a hour labor rates....average truck owners can be devastated with one bad/big repair.
You also pay for my time and expertise...tools etc....nothings cheap
PowerStroke Tech Talk w/ARod please don’t take it wrong. I know for a fact the technician does not receive that much $ per hour. Technicians are middle class regular dudes just like the rest of us.
But as a technician, please be aware that $125 a hour is very daunting for a customer to pay out.
Im not taking it wrong but i am also not making 10 dollars an hr either
PowerStroke Tech Talk w/ARod out of the $125 hour how much of that do you receive? The dealership where I am is union techs. They charge $150 an hour plus $10 or $20 for shop materials. Just for me to walk in and ask to diagnose a check engine is almost $200 out the gate. They don’t charge by the 1/4, 1/2, or 3/4 hour it’s a full hour regardless if it takes them 30 seconds or 55 minutes. We need techs like you who seem to be honest and actually care about what they do.
Thanks brotha, appreciate the feedback!
I have 2 questions.
1) what is the software that you are using? I think it is a license that you load on a laptop and it cost $150 a year and how do you get those passcodes?
2) Are you a mechanic or work for Ford? Anyone can do this with the software? Or do you need special passcodes or access? My F350 has this code nobody wants to touch it or do anything with my truck.
