  • As part of the 2022 John Williams at 90 Celebration, audiences were invited to join a special Q&A with John Williams and Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter. Afterwards, Reineke and the NSO closed out the festivities by performing the 1993 Oscar®-winning epic film Jurassic Park, with Williams' iconic musical score performed live to picture by the NSO.
NSO Executive Director Gary Ginstling said of John Williams' impact on the American orchestral landscape, "John's extraordinary music has transcended its original use in film to become part of the standard orchestral repertoire. Of course, his music is thrilling as a film score, but it is equally at home in the concert hall, and has been embraced by generations of classical music fans and new audiences alike. The NSO is honored to celebrate an incredible body of work by one of America's favorite composers."
"Few people have been more influential in American music than John Williams," said Kennedy Center President Deborah F. Rutter. "On a personal level, I have known John for nearly four decades and have had the good fortune of working with him in my roles at various orchestras across the country. I'm humbled by John's enthusiasm to hold his 90th birthday celebration here at the Kennedy Center during our 50th anniversary season, and delighted that in celebrating him, we are also launching a new fund for music education-something about which John is incredibly passionate. He is a lifelong friend of musicians and a staunch advocate for music education at all ages."
Funds raised through sponsorships of The 90th Birthday Gala Concert will support the NSO Music Education Endowment which will provide ongoing support for the NSO's wide-ranging education programs, offered to students and children of all ages for free or at low-cost, at the Kennedy Center, in schools, and online. NSO education programs impact approximately 44,000 children, families, and the next generation of musicians and professionals annually, including programs ranging from Young People's Concerts for students in grades 3-8 around the metropolitan Washington D.C. region, NSO Family Concerts, the NSO Youth Fellowship Program for high school musicians seeking a career in music, In-School Ensembles, and the NSO Summer Music Institute, which attracts musicians ages 15-22 from the U.S. and abroad.

He really doesn't seem like 90 years old! He's sharp, he's present, he's lively! May this genius live way over 100 years.

John Williams is an American treasure. He is humble, friendly, gentle natured and has that ability to help bring out the best in another. To say he is a great guy just doesn't do it justice. He is a GOOD man, something we are all supposed to be reaching for.

I just went to John Williams 90th Birthday Celebration event live at Tanglewood. It was an amazing event, it was awesome to finally get to see him conduct in person even though it was only for one song. I Also had the extreme honor to actually meet and thank John Williams in person there.

What a wonderful segment where we learn a lot about the great John Williams and the host is outstanding. Excellent questions and anecdotes. Interestingly, we were able to go to a performance where a live orchestra played while showing ET a few years ago and It was an amazing experience. I highly recommend if you get the chance to go to this type of performance.

“For most of us, music is like oxygen. It is the element that animates us and supports us and keeps us alive… Why are we together today? Because of music. That’s why. We love it. It means something. We don’t know what the inspiration is or how we could describe it, but it’s part of our breathing and inspiring and finding our air and breathing.”
I wouldn’t survive without music, and if you took it away from me, you probably wouldn’t either. 😬Music is the spirit’s oxygen.

That E.T. bike scene toward the end of the movie…. Other than Henry Thomas, I think C. Thomas Howell was one of the actors there, one of the buddies of the older brother. 🤔🤔 I remember the other guys, I just can’t remember their names offhand…

So modest man. Not because he wants to be because you "have" to be modest but just because he is so focus on doing his job well that he just never rest on his knowledge. He is right music is everything in a world where culture is destroyed by politics because their bankers friends persuade them that we need more business students than artists.
So artistry today is matter of rich people coming from a good background. There are so many talents in more modest backgrounds as well! All of this require modesty!
