One of the unspoken truths of the first part of the Dominion War is that the Alliance was losing badly despite not being terribly outnumbered, nor the Dominion possessing a decisive technological advantage. Sure, they had the sensor array in the Argolis Cluster, but that doesn't change a battle at the tactical level. No, the reality is that Gul Dukat was running the War extremely well, as well as anyone could. And it wasn't a case of the Jem Hadar carrying the entire burden. It is clear that the Cardassians were fighting very well and that the refit of their ships not only finally allowed them to fight the Federation and Klingons on equal terms, but it imbued them with extreme confidence. This is where the combat experience against the Klingons, the traditional Cardassian attention to detail, as well as their heavy focus on training and tactics was finally married to ships that could compete on even terms with their enemies. The result is that the Cardassians were holding their own and far more within the Dominion. But this excellence was tenuous, and like the 1941 Wehrmacht it was due for a long decline. Once Dukat was gone, so was the Cardassian confidence to an extent. They continued to fight well but it was apparent to everyone that Damar was a puppet and Cardassian influence was on the wane. Within a military the smallest shift is perceptible, and especially so with a race so politically attuned as Cardassians. They start getting less glamorous missions. They stop getting credit and praise. And slowly and surely morale drops and the enthusiasm wanes. The professional core of the Cardassian military continues to fight well, but the institutional focuses on training, staff preparation and even tactics began to crumble as losses mount and replacements are pushed to the front with truncated training. And it becomes a feedback loop. As Cardassian effectiveness drops, so does the respect of Weyoun and the entire Dominion attitude toward Cardassia, which in turn creates institutional malaise. By the time Damar makes his resistance speech, the Cardassian military is demoralized and not as effective as it had been just two years prior.

I really like the look of the refit Ambassador Class. One has to imagine that they were refit again during the War and probably grew to be as powerful as the pre-War Galaxy Class.

Narendra III, or perhaps some mid-24th Century Federation-Cardassian War battles.

The narrative with the original TNG style script helps bring the battles to life. I also think it was ara curate to the show portraying Starfleet suffering repeated defeats and withdrawal.

Thank you! I have fun doing these videos with the narrative! I'll have more coming up, just not sure when, people seem to enjoy them, but they also like random unstructured battles too
