Lovely ice cone Ted Lasso Filming locations and SO MUCH MORE wonderful Richmond
Thanks 😊
This should have more views! I would suggest that you go back and check out these spots, that are also in Richmond or very close by:
Petersham Nurseries for food. Then Strand on the Green, Chiswick, Kew Gardens, Twickenham, Teddington, Kingston, Wimbledon Village, Barnes Bridge and Pond. All are a MUST visit.
Yes I agree with you! I feel bad that we didn't even get to visit Richmond Park! I know a lot more about Richmond now, and will include more places next time!
Thank you for your comment!
Is my neck of the wood. Richmond historical and absolutely beautiful. Besides Richmond Park, which is the biggest in London .did you know ,if you go to Richmond Green, and follow the road towards the river ,before you get to the river there’s the old ruins of Richmond Palace ,where Elizabeth 1st died . And also kew gardens which I’m a member , it’s worth a visit too.
Dara's husband, Ian, here. You are very fortunate to live in this area. We really need to go to Kew Gardens. I haven't been there since I was a child. I had no idea about the old ruins of Richmond Palace. Will have to check it out.
I didn't know about Richmond Palace! That's fascinating! We went to a delightful vintage bookshop near Kew Gardens, where my son bought some Charles Dickens books💖
I lived in the area for just about all of the seventies and in Richmond proper for half that time. What a shame you did not get a chance to visit the wonderful Richmond Park, which was for me the most wonderful place to walk, cycle, ride. For my early married days we rented a spacious flat just down the hill from the park and walked there often, many times in the evening after the cars were excluded. It was so peaceful and beautiful in the moonlight. Having said that, in those days the planes flew all through the night, and that took some getting used to. The plus side was that it was not as expensive as now, and students and young people could rent on the hillside. I taught out past Hampton Court Palace and rode a moped through both Richmond park and Bushey Park, another deer park, to get there. I think I knew I was very lucky. It was still a place of famous faces. Then there is Kew Gardens. It used to cost 2p (honest) to go in there, and my hubby and I would walk through the gardens to reach his Grandmother's house in Kew.
What lovely memories!!! I'm very sorry we didn't get to Richmond Park. It is on the top of our list for the next visit to Richmond! After publishing this video I spoke to two of Ian's uncles and they regaled us with many stories of their days drinking at the local pubs in Richmond 40+ years ago ;-)
@@MagentaOtterTravels There was a lot of that for us too! It was more drinking than eating for us then! A ploughman's if you were lucky!
Richmond is a lovely place. My parents took us for a weekend break there one year when I was an older teenager, and for some reason I sulked all weekend.......I just hated the idea of being in London, I think.... even though Richmond really doesn't feel like London. What an ungrateful brat I was!
I have been since, when I lived in West Londond for some years, and it's great!
That's funny! But I totally get it. Teenagers are a unique breed, and I think we all can think back as children to things we didn't appreciate like we should have at the time!🙄
I've never seen Ted Lasso, but I have been to Richmond and really liked it. My goddaughter (who lives in London) recommended it to me during a conversation about how I was looking for something different to do in London and something a little active. Her recommendation was hiring a bike and riding the trails that go along the river (you even showed the bike hire place I got the bike from!) it was an excellent way to spend an afternoon and I felt virtuous in exercising off lunch!
Oh yes, that would be so fun to cycle along that path! I'm sorry that we didn't have time to do that, and weren't able to pay a visit to Richmond Park. Next time!
I lived in RIchmond for many years. It's a special place and ideally located for commuting into London as well as heading out to the Home Counties and Thames Valley. The view from the top of Richmond Hill across the meadows and River Thames was famously painted by the artist, J M W Turner.
His old house in Twickenham is now open as a museum.
@@Brookspirit Good to know. Thanks! 🙂
Yes, I agree with you about it being an ideal location. That is interesting to know about Turner painting that view. I'm not surprised, as it is most picturesque!
@@MagentaOtterTravels 😊
Back when dinosaurs ruled the Earth I used to work in Richmond. Our Company had a darts team that played in a local league and our home pub was The Prince's Head. Back then it was a 'spit and sawdust' pub with dingy paintwork and fag-ends on the floor. Ahhh... I miss those days :-)
You are opening phrase put a smile on my face! 😂
It all sounds lovely! Nice memories. Except for the spit and the cigarette butts...
We are most definitely Ted Lasso fans. When it first came out we were a bit reluctant to watch something about soccer. But the IMDB and Rotten Tomatoes ratings won us over and we haven't looked back. Sensational show.
The real Richmond looks quite appealing too. Funnily enough we have a couple or three Richmonds here too. In Melbourne we have a grungy trendy inner city suburb also famous for it's football team and cosy bars and restaurants and strip called Little Saigon. Tasmania has a historic little town famous for having the oldest still used bridge and a bunch of perfectly preserved Georgian houses - some of Australia's oldest. It is a pretty little town and probably closest in looks to Richmond London. And the third Richmond is just out of Sydney and has an Air Force base 😆 Actually it is quite historic too and dates back to the 18th Century - 5th oldest European settlement in Oz. I suppose back in the day it might've reminded some homesick Englishman of Richmond.
Like Ian I am a bit of a fan of gelato too. Those prices though? Holy heckin' gelato scoops. I'd still have a regular though. 😂🍦🍦🍦 Probably the chocoviar... or the salted butter caramel... or the stracciatella... or Azteco... or... I might have to go back for seconds. Now I need to get back to Italy for some gelato. 😂
Yes, apparently there are Richmonds all over the world!
Next time you are in London or Italy, I STRONGLY recommend that y'all get some gelato at Venchi!!
@@MagentaOtterTravels ooh, they're actually Italian? We hope to get to Italy again in the next year or so so they will definitely be added to the gelato itinerary. :D
That gelato shop looked incredible! Being a gelato snob, I think that would even reach my standards!
Oh yes, you would like this one! Put it on your list next time you are in London or Italy. Ian says they have several locations.
big fans of Ted Lasso!
I love the Ted Lasso character and a lot of his sayings! Other parts of the show I'm not as big a fan...
Ian is a connoisseur in architecture and gelato ⛪🍦
Absolutely!
Thank you! They are definitely long time loves of my life.
@@ians3586 we’ve got a gelato stall near us , the prices shoot for the stars , and the portions are low ball ,delivered underhand..
If only that option is available, the smart kids head for the Aldi freezer box,in the Cornish department..
Awe we chose the same gelato Dara...I had my eye on that 😮 then you said it...couldn't go wrong with Salted Caramel...yummy! Spanish Tapas would have been my choice...sounds like Hollywood, Lu Lu Lemon! Funny! I don't watch Ted Lasso...it looks like a cute little town...nice food...and I love the umbrella street! Love the lavender patch too! Lovely video!!!
Thank you so much! It was a fun place to visit 💖
Those trees that can be seen on the other side of the bridge at 10:51are very familiar to me. I once had the job of modelling them for the model of a development back in the 80s.
I was sent a ground plan giving the sizes which had the location and architect's info removed, but as soon as I saw it, I knew exactly where it was.
That is incredible! How fun! Have you been back there to visit? If not, I highly recommend 👍
@@MagentaOtterTravels .
Used to go skating at the famous Richmond Ice Rink by the river when I was a kid, was taught by Betty Callaway, later to become Torville and Dean's Olympic coach. Also worked there for a while around 1970 but, other than passing through on a boat, haven't been back since.
Not seen Ted Lasso so will have to check that out and we thought Richmond was in North Yorkshire 😂 you and Ian fit right into that whimsical place lol super interesting looking items in that gothic revival mansion! Wow that gelato looks amazing we could not choose a favourite! Lots of pizza places and diverse variety of restaurants. The Ted Lasso sports bar looks fun loved your friend attempting the Ted Tash 🥸 ooo microscopic sticky toffee pudding. Looks a lovely town whether you are a Ted fan or not! Have a lovely weekend 💗
Ted Lasso is on Apple TV, so I wouldn't bother with it unless you have that streaming service. Otherwise, just fly American Airlines on your next trip to the states and watch it on the plane!
😂
Oh the gelato! 🍦
THE.BEST! We will be back in London a few times this summer, and Ian has already scouted out other locations we can visit in London! Lol #Priorities
@@MagentaOtterTravels we need documentation of each experience
Until the 18th century Richmond was known as Shene, which in Old English meant beautiful. It was renamed because the view from Richmond Hill reminded an eminent townsman of the one that overlooked the Swale in Richmond Yorkshire. There are still parts of the town that carry the old name, notably East Sheen and North Sheen. Many Canadians come to the area as George Vancouver is buried in Petersham Churchyard at the bottom of Richmond Hill.
Thanks for the interesting context! Many viewers mentioned Richmond in Yorkshire. Interesting to know that the one in London was named after the one in Yorkshire, and the one in Virginia was named after the one in London!! Cheers! Dara
Boy I’m jealous! Can’t wait until I’m back in England. Now when in England… love a great deal of English foods, but after about three weeks, I need a good burger. Best places I have found thus far… of course- Five Guys, but there is a great burger place in Aylesbury. Right in the square. And it is out of this world.
Ian is like you. He loves a good hamburger! As for me, I haven't had a beef burger since 1983 🤣
@@MagentaOtterTravels Dara-again, I don't eat beef often, but as I shared...gotta have a steak or burger occasionally. 😁And can't wait to get my coffee gelato.
Next you'll have to visit 'The Turf' from Welcome to Wrexham, which I'm sure you know is a docu series based on real football with one very famous and one fairly famous N. American owner and is very good.
I have been wanting to watch the Welcome to Wrexham series! And I do hope to visit Wrexham one day! I need to meet up with my friends Rach and Wills from @PostcardAndAPint there! They have done some great videos about Wrexham and live not far away.❤️🏴 I'm a big Ryan Reynolds fan, and love seeing what he and Rob do every year for each others birthdays! So funny! 😂
Richmond is lovely, but we've not watched Ted Lasso, we will get around to it at some time as we keep being recommended it! Thats an icecream place! Hi please indeed Ian. Will loves a lint of London Pride. We've not been to Richmond for years. We need to go back. All your food looked delicious. Cheers 🍻
I have been dying to watch Welcome to Wrexham! Some parts of Ted Lasso are HILARIOUS and just so well written. Other parts... I wish I could edit out of the show, TBH ;-)
It's very interesting to hear the origin story of Ted Lasso, so watch a YT video about that. Jason Sudeikis is a genius.
Richmond regularly gets voted as one of the best places to live in London. My brother lived in nearby Chiswick and we'd spend a lot of time in Richmond. If I win the lottery I'll buy a room here to live in!
I have heard great things about Chiswick as well!
I personally prefer Chiswick, but Richmond is lovely. (Grew up in Sheen, which is essentially Richmond)
Just seeing this now! ❤ Loved our visit with you all! & this video. Can’t wait to explore it more!
Aw, thanks Sandra! We had a blast exploring Richmond with y'all! Thanks for being a great sport and showing me your Lasso stache attempt! On your next visit, please go to Richmond Park and report back... I hear it's amazing! XX
You could go to Hayes & Yeading football club to see where many scenes of Ted Lasso were filmed. The film Studio they used is across the road from the football ground.
I'm not as serious fan, but people who are should definitely do that!
I've been using the Prince's Head - occasionally - since I was 16 in the mid-60's. It has changed a little but it is still primarily a "real" pub for locals.
Next time you visit Richmond, also visit the White Swan - between the Green and the river. 2 miles upriver is another White Swan, at Twickenham. That one is a real contender for "Best Pub in the South East". Also, if you visit in summer, there are regular boat services to the magificent Tudor palace of Hampton Court. From Kew upriver to Hampton really is the best part of London, at least, for those who have long-since done the touristy stuff in the centre.
The Richmond White Swan is a good place for Sunday lunch. The other is as you say, excellent, I recall a lovely atmosphere about the place.
I'm so glad that the tourists haven't ruined Prince's Head. How fun that you know it and the area so well. I appreciate your suggestions. I did visit Hampton Court on this visit, with our other son, a couple weeks earlier. Now I just need to force myself to edit THAT video and get it published... I'm procrastinating because I know it will be a beast! 😝
It would be lovely to take a boat up to Hampton Court!!
Thanks for your comment. Cheers! Dara
We stayed for a week in Richmond last November. One of my favorite places was the Hollyhock - food pastries coffee-it sits back from the water. We went there many times.
That sounds lovely! I think there are a lot of amazing places to eat in Richmond... I could spend weeks eating my way through it 😀
Walpole's Strawberry Hill House is lovely and well worth a visit, it is not a National Trust property though. It's run by a private charity/trust and is very much in need of all the support it can get, so if you are in the area, visit and enjoy the house, the lovely cafe and beautiful gardens.
I'm so sorry for that error! Thanks for setting the record straight ;-) Yes, it's a lovely place to support by buying a ticket and paying a visit!
I haven’t been to Richmond in many years but would love to revisit next time I’m in the UK.
If at some point you get to Yorkshire, Richmond there is also worth seeing.☺️
We are going to Yorkshire this summer, but I'm afraid our visit will be far too brief. Let's see what I can fit in 😉
Glad the great ice cream place is still there, from way back....Richmond Park and Hill (still in Surrey to me !!) are lovely
We really enjoyed the view from Richmond Hill, but next time we go to Richmond I want to see the park! And hopefully the deer!
Never been to Richmond. Lovely video. Today is the day I think, Welcome home!!!
Yes we are excited to be back! 👍🇬🇧
Richmond looks lovely!!!! The food especially the gelato looked good too! Great tour Dara & Ian thank you. Hope you’re enjoying the start to your home away from home adventures. YES we love Ted Lasso! ~Cara 🌺
Ted is hilarious! I love his optimism! ☀️
We are really enjoying being back in England. After two days, we conquered Jet lag and yesterday we welcomed our first set of visitors. Dear friends of ours who used to live near us in Texas and now live in Utah ...
That was a lot of food in just a few minutes, it has left me feeling rather hungry. I will be sure to give Ted Lasso a go.
I cannot categorically recommend Ted Lasso, but if you have an Apple TV subscription you could give it a go. Otherwise just watch some funny clips of Ted on RUclips. He has some great one liners!
You know me, Gerry, always fixated on food! Lol
So much nostalgia for me and I think you covered all the important bits (apart from Richmond Park itself - is that another video?). I did wonder at one point whether I like Cheltenham because it reminds me of Richmond.
Unfortunately, we weren't able to visit Richmond Park on this trip. Definitely next time! I've heard wonderful things about it...
Richmond theatre always had a good Panto at Christmas, i used to see lots of famous people in Richmond, some going to the theatre. The Crawdaddy Club is also famous for the big name bands who played there in the 1960s.
I've never been to a Panto, but hopefully one of these years we will be here at Christmas and I can experience one. I'm sure Richmond would be a fab place to go!
@@MagentaOtterTravels It's a beautiful theatre, there is a good video on youtube showing the Victorian interior.
@@Brookspirit I'm certain I'd love it
Brian Jones was seen in the Crawdaddy club and Cheltenham..
I’ve been to Richmond theatre , it’s steep inside..
Loved Ted Lasso. 40 minutes away from us, never been , must go. Great short video. 👍
Oh yes, you really should go visit Richmond on a nice day! We didn't make it to Richmond Park, but it's supposed to be fabulous.
Great video Dara. Not seen ted Lasso but enjoyed seeing all these locations. 👍🏻🚶🏻♂️🚶♀️
I think Ted Lasso is more popular among Americans. The character is very funny, and he has some great lines. But I'm not necessarily encouraging you to watch the show 😉
"Toto, I don't think we're in North Yorkshire anymore!" 😉
No, definitely not that Richmond! But I do look forward to being in Yorkshire later this summer...
Richmond is lovely….its my favourite place in London…i could definitely live there….if Cheltenham didn’t exist…
They both are fantastic places with lots to do and see!
Roger and I are big fans of Ted Lasso!⚽️
The British/American humour is SO funny! I love the line from the first episode - "how many countries are in this country?!!" LOL
I lived in Strawberry Hill , just off Waldegrave Road ...wow...loved it there ...
What a lovely area! I can see why you miss it!
What a cool hot chocolate!
It was a bit much to have both a sticky toffee pudding AND a hot chocolate, but the drink came with the dessert! And thankfully the sticky toffee pudding was very small!
@@MagentaOtterTravels it's a big sacrifice, but someone has to do it!
My mum lives nearby one of the locations for Ted Lasso
I grew up in richmond and worked there
Has it changed a lot since then?
@MagentaOtterTravels some is still the same the green is a nice place to sit in the summer with pubs and also richmond theatre is stunning sir Richard Attenborough lived in richmond on the green also the Mills family lived on richmond hill I used to walk by the river when I finished work in the summer months as I only lived down the road I like it is so close to Kew gardens
@@user-vg5zk9en3z it really is such a wonderful location! I've heard great things about the Richmond Theatre. Would love to see a Panto there!
Wow! The gelato cones look amazing! 😋
They are. My nephews and nieces love it there.
SOOOOO lush! I don't think there is a Venchi near you in Norfolk... but remember for your next trip to London!
@@MagentaOtterTravels not here in Leeds
you had me at Venchi! 🤤
You would love that place!
Ted Lasso ? Bridget Jones.Mark D’Arcy .at the Globe Tavern.
Excellent video
Thank you very much!
We just started re-watching Ted Lasso a couple of days ago. Last Easter Sunday 2023, I drove up from Worthing because I wanted to be able to drive without restrictions in downtown London, and then headed up to Richmond to the pub.
Above the television, I’m watching this video on is my wooden believe block, yellow and blue like the TV show; and my Roy Kent mug and a metal double-decker bus biscuit 10
Oh my, you are a serious fan!
Piedmont Hazelnut ice cream for me. I'm guessing Ian crossed off the Coconut straight away.
We have both Japanese and Persian restaurants in Newcastle too. I haven't tried a Japanese restaurant yet.
Whole foods shops are everywhere these days but you don't see many bits and pieces food shops. 😁
Do you know what IPA stands for and why?
It appears to me that the smaller the portions are, the higher the price.
Love the paddle steamer. Row boat? Do you mean rowing boat?
That vegetarian breakfast looks far too big for me. Not a bad price.
13:08 Magenta jacket alert disappearing into the tube station.
Yes, Ian DID avoid the Coconut as you predicted!
I love Japanese food. A Bento box is an ideal lunch for me ;-)
Do you want to share the origin story of India Pale Ale? Go for it...
Don't tell me you guys call row boats "rowing boats"!?
You are the first English guy to tell me my breakfast was too big! Most of the men in the comments chide me for not getting 2 pieces of bacon AND 2 sausages AND fried bread, etc etc! LOL
Did you notice the magenta jacket at the beginning of the video when I was showing Leon as a breakfast option?
@@MagentaOtterTravels I would tell you the story about why it's called India Pale Ale.....if only I could remember it. 🙄
Row boats sounds very odd to British ears.
That breakfast is bigger than my dinner. 🥘
I missed the magenta jacket at Leon, but I just spotted the magenta car when Ian was at the 'Stop me and buy one' ice cream trike. 🍦
I’ve never seen a small flat STP before 🤔 I had my first STP of my trip on Sunday. Sadly, it didn’t come with custard 😔
It was a TINY STP! We had our first STP of the summer last night... nice big hunk of pudding! Ian insisted on ice cream, as usual, but our guests from Utah had lashings of custard for their first ever STP and loved it!!
Simon LeBon of Duran Duran lives in Richmond.
I thought he lived in Birmingham…
No, the band was formed in Birmingham but LeBon was from London (Pinner originally) and has lived in Richmond for quite some time now.
That makes sense. If I had loads of money, I would be happy to live there 💖
My mum lives there, I did Warpole as part of my politics and Government
Nice that your mum lives there because it's a great place to visit!
Pizza at Woking is good…
Sadly I don't subscribe to Apple and Ted Lasso isn't available on either Netflix or Prime, I have no idea what all the fuss is about. But I still enjoyed your video! I have friends who live in Richmond so maybe I can ask them! Looking forward to your next videos as always ! The magenta flowers were, of course, planted just for you Dara!!
Don't bother watching the whole series... I can't say that I recommend it because it has some very scandalous bits! But the Ted Lasso character is hilarious and he has some amazing one liners! Jason Sudeikis us a genius. Here's one video to give you an idea: ruclips.net/video/P3inyS__dpA/видео.htmlsi=VF2RsiTAgRTifVHu
I paused your video to check Venchi locations.
You need to try it!!
You should have asked for “Bubble and Squeak” with that breakfast instead of “Hash Brown”….London is the only place that does it…it’s a regional favourite..Opportunity missed..so sad..
I love bubble and squeak.
I love bubble and squeak!
Hiya Dara, Americanisms that Brits hate has gone up to 7,000 views!, I've only watched it twice, I think its going up 100 views per week, Get In There!
Haha well done Choppy!
Errr, who is Ted Lasso? I seem to be missing something, still nothing new there!
I haven't seen it either. Series on Apple tv I think.
Oh right, l don’t have Apple TV so that explains it. Thank you.
Just go watch some Ted Lasso clips on RUclips. Don't bother with trying to watch the actual series! The character that Jason Sudeikis developed is pretty hilarious
