Sir, I’d like to applaud you for your incredible dedication to finding and preserving these old broadcasts. You’ve done a phenomenal service to the art and to modern culture.
Reminds of an incident back in 1969. I was going to a college in Kentucky and we had a 10 watt station and could play "Rockn Roll". One night the D.J. played "Lay Lady Lay" 3 times in a row. The next broadcast day it was a "Christian Music" only. ;-)
It seems like when Dave would be interviewed he felt that every other thing he said had to be funny. Would have been nice if he just backed off that a bit.
Thanks for putting this up. I'm now digitizing it from my collection and will upload it later.

@@ryanw-oo1hh Thanks!
Connie got what she deserved. These two guys are hysterical.
For those wondering, Dave's prediction about the Indy 500 that year was just a little off. Bobby Rahal didn't win; he came in 3rd.
David Letterman is the most naturally funny guy in broadcast TV history

Randall Grathwohls hahaha
Somebody was probably upset with the bad grammar in the song title. The intransitive verb form is "lie", not "lay".
Letterman was a guest on the show after his on the same night?
Yes, that's right.
37:12 - Great reaction from Dave to Tom's excuse about saying NBC instead of CBS

I agree, but it wasn't his style to do that. He did an interview with Bob Costas once where he didn't joke around quite as much as he does here.
I liked Dave at this time when he didn't wear his glasses on air.
