    I got my M50 about 3 years ago, and used my EVF WAY more than the flippy screen. You mentioned being able to block out the rest of the world, and that's 100% the case, and really is one of the biggest things that I miss when shooting with my M6 mkii. Not only that, it allows me to nail focus better when using a manual lens, and also makes the shot a lot more stable. When I'm looking through the EVF, my arms are closer to my body, and the rubber guard on the EVF is making pretty solid contact with my brow. I've noticed that it's a lot harder to get and keep my subject in frame with just the rear LCD, especially when I'm shooting telephoto.
    I've got a pretty short list of gear I need to pick up for my M6, and I'm debating on whether the quality of life upgrade with the EVF is a higher priority than being able to shoot "LOG" in 10 bit 4 2 2 with a ninja V or upgrading to Resolve Studio, but if I get a good deal on it, it may bump up in priority.

    Good tips, Mark. I have another point to add in favor of the EVF. One reason I bought the M6 Mark II is because of the availability of adapters that let me use lenses from my old film cameras. The autofocus and tracking on this camera are great, but it's also a great lightweight camera for more deliberate still photography. I have adapters for Canon FD, Nikon and Leica M-mount lenses. Focus peaking isn't as precise as I need if I'm using a fast lens wide open, and the EVF lets me do a quick focus check to give me more confidence that I'll have a usable shot when I get home. As Han He mentioned in an earlier comment, I like the built in diopter adjustment that lets me use the EVF without glasses.

      Since making this video this is precisely the situation I use the EVF most. I love adapting vintage glass, and the different looks you can achieve.

    For the price that Canon is charging for the M6 II, an EVF should have been built into the camera body (like the Sony A6100). A viewfinder is necessary in bright sunlight especially if the user is wearing shades. The idea of a clip-on EVF is stupid - when attached to the camera, it sticks out like some Cyclops eye and turns a very compact camera into a "big" camera. They should have ditched the built-in flash and placed the EVF there instead.

    SUBSCRIBED!!
    Greetings from an M6 MkII owner in Malaysia.
    Each serious photographer own smartphones, and probably flagship smartphones (with high spec OLED screens) which they used under very bright sunlight to capture shots.
    I have always owned flagship models from Samsung, Pixel and iPhone, and currently using S20+ and iP11ProMax. Under very bright sunlight in many countries, such high tech screens are virtually useless.
    Hence, as a hardcore photographer since 1984 with the Nikon F3 and FM2 right to this era with my XT3 and M6MkII, where most of my shots are done outside under very bright light 365days a year, I definitely need not only an EVF but a great EVF, and I love the Canon EVF on my M6 where its left like that all the time.
    Great videos, sir. Keep it up! 👍👍

    I tried my M6 II for a year without it. I regret waiting so long. I realized I needed one when my bifocals forced me to hold my camera in an awkward position for mobile video (prior to that I was nearly always on a tripod for video). With the EVF, I can set the diopter where I want it and just hold the camera up to my eye.

    Not necessarily for bright light, but good when you shoot in low light situations where you have to use a slower shutter speed. Without a tripod, using a viewfinder in that situation improves stability and camera shake if your shutter speed is slower than 1/30 or 1/40.

      You're right, it can help as it gives you another point of contact on your body, which helps keep the camera steady. There are a number of other ways to keep the camera steady, and I will try an do a video on them in the near future.

    But can you lock subject with touchscreen without EVF? You are saying that option is only available with EVF? And what about sport photography. I think that it is much easier to track fast subject with camera conected with your head, then with your arms. Or not?

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  5 лет назад

      Yes, the ability to lock onto a subject seems no different to me. One you start taking the photos, the screen, and view finder, are displaying a delayed image (the photo that has just been taken), this actually makes it easier to track the subject when using the screen, as you can still see the subject in real time, not on the screen but with your naked eye. With the viewfinder you are only seeing the delayed image. That's my take on it anyways.

    • @markwiemels
      @markwiemels  4 года назад +1

      Yes, so tap to track and tap to focus are available without the EVF. The touch pad mode is different, it simulates the joystick moving the focus point from a traditional DSLR. This mode is probably more accurate, allows you to chose a smaller area, and is mostly good for photography when using the EVF. It’s kinda cool and useful but not necessary.

    the reason? probaley there are a lot of "old class" photographers in US. (like DP review a guy named Chris.)
    but look back at the evf function--do u really need it? someone will say, in the strong sun light. the screen is not clear, evf is essential.
    but! how many times in the real life let u holding a camera toward the sun/strong light in high noon? very few time, even for a Pro.
    even in such scene, u still don't need worry about the picture. because why? in strong light, the shutter speed is enough, don't need worry sharp issue.
    beside, this little things will consume more power instead of screen. plus, it not convienient for packaging in some camera bag.(not a flat any more)
