The "stress" response is one of the primary evolutionary adaptations. Fear being the base emotional response, originating from the hind-brain, rather than the temporal lobe, where all other emotions originate, the stress response is a component of the fear response. It is what we call "flight or fight". In short spurts it activates all the other "go" responses, which then activates strength and speed, as well as higher brain functions. It was meant for short spurts, rather than long periods. Getting us away from the lion in the bush, rather than months spent in war zones. Intensive training and cognitive desensitisation overcomes stress responses. Really loving your videos Dan.

Hey Dan, do you think that stress inoculation is totally context dependent? Thinking back on your previous content about the identity fusion trap and self-esteem/identity being context dependent, which can be lost upon leaving that context - can you train a globally applicable "stress inoculation mindset"?

Great question! I think that stress inoculation is largely context dependant but there’s a small amount of generic resilience to stress. You become better under stress at the particular skills you train but the mindset you develop in the process is transferable.
