  • Hey friends! Mayim Bialik here from The Big Bang Theory and #Blossom. Sukkot ( a weeklong jewish holiday after Yom Kippur) is upon us, and part of the tradition during this time is to build an outdoor structure (Sukkah) that represents the shelter given to the jews during their 40-year-long trek through the sinai desert. This week's vlog shows you how I build my sukkah and what it looks like all done. There's time lapse and drone footage. You don't want to miss this one!

    I know my great grandparents were Jews but at some point in our family we lost the connection to Jewish life. Though we remain believers, and I don't think I can consider my self Hebrew or a Jew, I still like to learn in memory of those great grandparents. Thank you for helping me learn more about what was part of their culture and faith.

      Koki Aedo you can always learn more, and do more. I was raised secular, but because religious later in life, and it is the beat decision I ever made. I connected with my great-grandparents, whom I never knew, in a way I thought impossible. There is always a possibility of return

      Not to be clichéd, you can be whatever YOU choose. Love G-d and express your thanks in its fullest expression, that should decide what you are.

      Nana...I enjoyed reading your comment. I am studying to convert and one thing that struck me is that one can never lose their Jewish soul. You have been a Jew, you are a Jew and you will always be a Jew. Look at some videos about being Jewish and especially about lighting candles on Friday night. If there is a chabad house nearby ask if you can attend a sedar.

      Thank you for sharing! It's so nice for people to take interest, and there's so much to learn and take inspiration from no matter what your background. And because of your family connection, that's even more special! And five years after you wrote your comment, reading what you wrote encourages me to love the sukkah better in a new way because my father was Jewish and my mother is a convert so her family didn't do this in the past.

    I grew up Christian. Now I am Messianic. Now...I am excited by things like building a Sukkah! Now, I'm learning and I'm teaching my children why we do things like this. Your explanation, Mayim, is so beautiful! And out here, deep in the Pineywoods of E. Texas...there is a Sukkah...built by people who don't have as long a history as your people. But a people have to start somewhere don't they? I pray you and your family all HaShem's BEST blessings during this Sukkot and all the other Sukkots to come. Chag Sameach Sukkot!

    • @bonniehyden962
      @bonniehyden962 Год назад +1

      @@JayTX. My journey has been full! Biggest lesson: when >I< felt I'd completely messed up an observance... Father showed me how I felt the first time one of my children scribbled their first picture. "You put it on the front of the frig, didn't you? ...that's where all the things you try and do with a heart of love for Me go: on my "frig" ...I think they're beautiful and I remember." Yup. I cried. Sukkot these days is a store bought canopy with 2 tents that affix to 2 sides of the canopy. 1 for my husband and I; 1 for our adult, Down Syndrome son. We sleep on air mattresses. Set up in the back yard. However, we've now moved to a larger property and I'm looking for a dedicated Sukkah Spot for this coming year. My husband isn't TO ...but he supports me and is now staying in Sukkah all 7 days! 🙌 (jawdrop!) I've learned observing The Days is a process in each of us. We get better and better, learning more and more about our relationship with our Heavenly Father. 🤗

      @@bonniehyden962 thanks for sharing your story ,
      have you met any others? because I have to say dropping Torah on a bunch of Texas Baptists did not go to well for us lol

    • @bonniehyden962
      @bonniehyden962 Год назад +1

      @@JayTX. 😂😂...😳 @dropping Torah on baptists! Yeah, I tread carefully and have learned to listen to the Holy Spirit... A LOT! You never know who is ready to HEAR. My mom is S. Baptist and my "change" didn't go over well, at first. She's realized I'm not in a cult now and is much better. But still won't talk about it very much with me.
      I observe alone. There is a congregation about 50 miles from me but 1) I've heard some questionable things about what they include in their beliefs and 2) Father hasn't pointed me in that direction. So....I await His Orders. Alone. Sometimes it's hard. But, as He promises....He sustains. ❤️

    Chag Sameach! Great video. Thank you so much for being so honest about your life. My husband and I were married right before the holiday and it was painful to celebrate after we split, but because we have three children, they deserve to love the holiday as much as we once did. We celebrate because He says Build it. It doesn't hurt so much this year.

    I look forward to Sukkot every year- decorating the sukkah with my daughters, the fall foods (mmmm....tzimmes), the smell of the etrog, I could go on and on. What I love and connect to most though is that in comparison to many of our other festival times this one is still celebrated in a similar fashion as it was thousands of years ago. That moment in time when I am waving the lulav and know that my ancestors have done the same for thousands of years gives me a connection to past, present, and future that is difficult to quantify. Kim Dobeck Hello Kim. Jews in the Northeast here in the USA celebrate Sukkot in cold weather, if that is what the season brings that particular year. I have read of shelters built on fire escapes, for want of another place to put them. Sukkot is not a holiday of convenience, but one that commemorates the difficulty of the wilderness experience of the ancient Israel, as well as it's joys: the beauty of God's provision and reliance on the same. The Christmas story if the manger echoes that same history. Jesus, born in an open air stable, His parents wandering from place to place for years until called home to safety. The next time you pull out that manger, meditate on the awesome connections of the Old and New Testaments, and God's provision to you in the form of the One named Yeshua (Jesus). 😊 Merry Christmas.

    I have studied several religions in school quite in-depth including Christianity and Islam. I would love to learn about Judaism it seems like such a beautiful religion. This video sparked me to research what a sukkah is and I came accross some beautiful prayers. Thank you!
