Nonse, this bike is not built for speed, get a S1000Xr instead, For me this is the perfect commuter. Sublime handling, lightweight, torquey, narrow etc etc, and a capable offroad and travel machine too.
There was a time when 75 horsepower was considered more than plenty. Tug the throttle hard and shift into the right gear and even a 250 sings. So I'm not sure when it was that we got to this point that in order to have fun, we need supersports. In any event, my view is that the F700GS is a very decent mid-size engine bike. I rode both this and the Triumph 800 and my recollection (which is may be imperfect) was that the greater difference was in the centre of gravity (higher on the Tiger) than in the engine. Not that I'm knocking you. Ride what you like. Go for a real wild man's bike, if you like.
I think its a great bike as well, not to mention you see these with 150k+ miles now, Idk many other bikes that can do that for the money. Also, Tiger is a very tall bike, even taller than the F1200GS, so this bike definitely has its place.
Have ridden this bike 700gs. Found it to be a great bike. Sounds like your just after power. Like some reviewers they dont like any bike if it ain't got tons of power. Go figure. Sold my VFR800 to buy one of these coz the VFRwas too fast. Love the wee GS
Bad review. What did you expect from the bike? It's a small GS, doesn't want to be super-powerful. Don't say vibrations are annoying, while constantly driving in 2nd or 3rd gear. Moreover, you're basing your negative view on such little details and wrong expectations. I understand that a little, because you couldn't prepare of course. It's an amazing bike, for people, who are too small for 800GS, and don't want such a heavy bike like a 1200GS. Windshield is a point, I understand that, but you can attach one easily.
+SeeK Since it's about the same sort of money as my Tiger I'd expect it to be about as good. It isn't and my review reflects this. I didn't get the full experience that day, I didn't get to ride it at proper motorway speeds, nor in the higher gears. But as I mentioned in the review my friend has one and he simply can't keep up with me. (Unfortunately) My test ride confirmed what I already suspected.
its not that bad kids, don't get on a 70-75 hp bike from a Ducati if you're a pro rider and leave a bad taste in your mouth, but for 90% of scenarios, this is the perfect bike, put a taller windscreen on if you'd like, In the city, it beats 90% of cars and other 300, 400, even some 600cc bikes. 45mpg with the ability to outfit it for light dirt road use while still able to easily cruise at 80-90+ mph. Again, if you're looking to drag race with the super sport buddies, you will be let down, but for in the city/on occasion long distance riding/back country riding, this is perfect. I found one at a steal as my 3rd bike and it is a perfect bike to take on for weekend and even daily rides.
I actually did all my riding lessons on a F650GS and handlingwise it was sublime. The exam was a breeze on that bike. I wouldnt wanna own one though because as you say the looks arent really my thing either and the performance would have lead to me getting bored with it way to quickly.
I take it this bike doesn't hold a candle to the Ducati Scrambler you also tested? And whereabouts is this event you can ride just about any bike you want to?
+sfbdotcom It's hard to compare the two as the Scrambler is a totally different kind of bike. It'd be like comparing a Jeep Cherokee to a dune buggy. The latter wil obviously be the more fun of the two, but you wouldn't necessarily want to take it on a trip through Europe or use it to commute to work every day. :) It's an event organised by the Belgian chapter of the Motorcycle Action Group (www.mag.be), motorcycle brands are invited to bring their bikes and offer them for test rides under the guidance of MAG road captains.
i didn't want to finish watching his video, understandable reviews can be in the negative, but this guy just emits negativity in his personality.. i prefer not to catch it.
BMW built this to be a traveling piece of equipment , not a rice rocket.... wind shield is designed to brake wind off the instruments for safety , if you want more, you can choose what you want without throwing too much away, i like having the wind especially in warmer weather.....i have the f650 gs and love everything about it.
Was somebody forcing you to ride this bike?. What a complete waste of time watching such a negative review. Wait, it wasn't all negative- you liked the colour.
Totally agree this bike shows nothing of what proper BMW bikes can do. About the only thing I liked about this bike when I tested it, was that it had good brakes and the ABS that my bike had installed were good. Else then that its power is pretty low, I'd say this would be a good starter bike for a lot of people, also I'm 1.80M and this bike was just to tall for me to ride comfortably in the city and such. This bike belongs off road, which is what its class aims at.
dinoarellano The Ducati Scrambler I tested after this one sure cured the unhappiness caused by riding the F700GS. ;-) ruclips.net/video/06blrHRYUWM/видео.html I realise my review of this bike is quite negative, but imho there's not much to like about it. You're obviously not obliged to share that point of view. :) But 2 months on I still haven't changed my point of view. Out of the 5 bikes I tested that day this was the one that impressed me the least and may actually be the "worst"* bike I've ridden so far. *When taking into account the type of bike, the competition it's up against and its age.
I don't understand all the negativity toward the reviewer. Bikes are very individual machines and what's good for one maybe not for the other. The reviewer expressed his own opinion which you may agree on or not. That's all. Some like spirited rides on pavement together with going off road (tiger), and others don't care about riding fast, but a calm on-pavement and some off road rides (F700). Some like this bike and others do not. Nothing to it.
+Felix H Indeed, I'm giving my personal opinion which as it turns out is not appreciated by everyone. :p But then again, this is the internet, this is to be expected. Any time anyone says anything that someone else doesn't like it will be received with a load of vitriol.
Funny that you talk as if The Triumph is waaaay faster... i ride Tiger 800 and trust me it aint fast even with 3C. So its better not to ask for that kind of specs.....its like riding a jeep and saying its a piece ofsh.. because it aint fast enough 4 my taste.....If you r happy with the T800 fine for you...its an excellent bike..probably The guy in The 1200gs is thinking...thank god i didnt buy that triumph piece of crap....at The end is all about The money and it seems your budget only reached so so bikes.
+camilo ortiz If the guy on the 1200GS is comparing his bike to the Tiger 800 he's comparing apples and oranges. I'm comparing the F700 against the Tiger 800, just as I would compare the R1200GS against a Tiger Explorer. I've also ridden the latter two and while the Tiger beats the BMW on power (136 vs 120hp) after mulling over this for quite a while I'm still not sure which one I'd actually buy if I had the money. From a purely objective point of view that is, in reality I'd probably buy the Explorer simply because it's a Triumph. :) When comparing the F700 to the Tiger 800 though, in my opinion the F700 is an inferior bike. That's what I though when I made this review and that's what I still think today.
The complaining was the review actually. And yes, I certainly support Trump's entertainment and comedic value. Late night shows have never been this funny.

Try changing gear! The bike has plenty of power and lovely torque... A joy to ride.

So according to you a review is only worth watching if it confirms what you want to hear?
Not at all .But I do expect a FAIR and hopefully a BALANCED review .Yours was nothing of the kind..
Totally agree this bike shows nothing of what proper BMW bikes can do. Would it kill you to mention positive things?
pierre verwey it might actually! Better play it safe.
You want a sportbike, go test drive a sportbike bro.
I believe that you have an attitude problem. I didn't like your review. It was evidently biased by your growing unhappiness.
dinoarellano The Ducati Scrambler I tested after this one sure cured the unhappiness caused by riding the F700GS. ;-) ruclips.net/video/06blrHRYUWM/видео.html

He is just quite boring all the time, that is what is getting people mad, watching this video is just a waste .
very poor review...
get your facts right before you talk crap ps again you're free test driving a restricted 35 kw version of the f700 gs
+wouter Belgrado This bike is currently for sale at D'Haese as one of their demo bikes. Turns out it's 55kW, not 35.
No attempt to be remotely objective here. Weak review.
