I've had this every Spring for 40 years! As well as the urticaria I also get a very red face and neck which I think must be polymorphic light eruption. If I don't take high dose Cetirizine (20mg twice daily) as soon as I feel the prickly sensation starting up the urticaria quite quickly spreads all over my body not just on exposed areas. On occasion it's been very bad and I've had to take steroids to clear it up. Finally due to the fact that I have just been diagnosed with a BCC on my face I have seen a dermatologist who is taking an interest in investigating this for me. Incidentally, as I mentioned this only occurs for me in Spring. If I stay indoors for about a week and take the high dose antihistamine I'm fine for the rest of the summer using my factor 50 suncream and once a day Cetirizine. I am in the UK. I'm afraid the NHS has not been very good at joining the dots with my symptoms over the years!

@@GA2LEN This year, since posting my comment, I have been using a new sunscreen on my face and neck - Eucerin Factor 50 Sun Allergy. This has been a complete game changer for me. For the first time in four decades I have had no sign of redness or urticaria. It has been truly amazing! I haven't needed to up my daily dose of cetirizine at all. I hope this may be of help to other sufferers.

I am a solar urticaria sufferer and my trigger is visible light 456 wave band. My question is during hardening, my reaction always occurs where a shadow is cast so at the point where the light stops hitting my skin. The shadow can be caused by clothes or angle of sun hitting forearm or I can purpose cause a shadow to test this theory. Why is this ?
