I have a couple of the the levitating yarn holders - works fab! I use mine all the time - actually ordered a second one after enjoying the first one so much. And I’ve always been a center puller, but mine was a game changer!
I have 3 yarn butlers (the first one you opened) and I LOVE my 3 so much. I cake my yarn and work from the outside. It keeps the yarn clean and even if its not caked, a skein fits perfectly on it as well.
I use mine all the time. I cake up my skeins just so I can use my wood wool genie. I’m usually a slow crocheter but this has allowed me to speed up because I am not having to stop and pull my working yarn from my skein. 👍🏻👍🏻
I really enjoyed this video. I own both types of yarn holders and find them both useful. Just a quick tip for you regarding the small, cheaper holder, if you rub the upper part of the base and the underside of the spindle with wax, it works brilliantly. ❤
I have the Barva Weighted Big Yarn Ball Holder in natural wood color, and in the version that comes with two (large and small) spindles. The design is more like the little one you got from Ali and the ChiaoGoo your friend has. I LOVE the Barva. It's very smooth. It doesn't make much noise or drag. The big spindle can easily hold 300g balls; I don't have any to try, but I bet it could hold a jumbo pound skein! My one criticism? It was almost $50 on Amazon, with Prime, in the USA. Ouch. But it's soooo good!
I bought a nice double one from Amazon. It’s actually sitting in a drawer because I usually sit on the sofa to crochet or knit and just have my yarn next to me, lol. But, I love having gadgets!! 😂
Never thought to use a yarn holder before, but now that I see them in action I'll be looking into them! Thanks Christa for this video makes looking into yarn accessories much more attenable.😊
I have two paper towel holders as well. The great thing about them is their heavy bases: they are not moving anywhere even when I yank hard. The only thing is that the yarn doesn't spin around so well because of friction. I tried to solve it by caking my yarn around the cardboard tubes from the centre of toilet and paper towel rolls. My friend gave me an off-cut of his plastic water pipe and it works slightly better. I also put a large, plastic yoghurt tub holder at the bottom, to reduce friction. But if I knew a clever woodworker with the right tool, I would ask her to make me a base with a groove for bearings - then I would have one of those non-magnetic yarn holders, but one that Goulding even take a 200- 400g ball! 😀 I guess, the base could be a plastic one, too, anything not too heavy and with a smooth surface! Shame, I don't know anyone with a 3D printer.
Hi Christa. Yes, I did buy one. The natural color version you put together last, I love it. The swinging lets up once in a while if the pull on the yarn is steady and smooth. Takes a little getting used to.😊 We also have an old paper towel rack that used to be mounted in the kitchen. Thought I could use it for small skiens.🤞 stay safe and happy hooking.
I just put the cake on the table and pull the yarn from the outside upward rather than to the side. It's way faster and less annoying than using the yarn holder and nothing tumbles around awkwardly. Especially when knitting coulourwork, I can keep moving the cakes to untangle the yarn.
I have the "Wool Jeanie" and a "Twizzer". I love both of mine and they are the same concept except not the same to use. All I do know... the yarn holders and wind or a breeze do NOT mix. Hahahahahahaha I had to retrieve my yarn from all over my side yard once. Hahahahaha I do not center pull any of my yarn anymore, and I cake all yarns if need be to use my Jeanie and Twizzer. Hope ya really find to love the ones you got!! My favorite one it the darker one. Just looks more rich to me. ❤❤❤ Love ya, my friend.
I love mine and I ordered extra spindles for color work. I also have a metal wristlet spindle that folds flat and I keep it at work. I hang it somewhere to crochet at lunch.
I have the one with the magnet. Love it! My dogs knock it off the table because it is lightweight. Hasn’t broken yet… I love my yarn bowls too, but I have dropped some ceramic ones, shattered!
I don't have one as ive never had the need for it. They do seem to work great. Thank you for sharing with us 🥰 Wishing you a beautiful blessed day/night and weekend 🙏🏻💖
I crochet from the outside of the yarn skein because I don't like the yarn vomit. I could really use a yarn holder, especially when I'm doing a tutorial 😀.
Oh I am so glad it was helpful to you, @normabinkley6111! My other tutorials are here: ruclips.net/p/PLpolLUf9SLHgx42hUZEW9HCfsU1oqRxbU Thank you!! 🌼🌸🌼
I got the first one (not hanging) first and the yarn kept getting wound between the spindle and the base….i bought the yarn jeanie next and absolutely loved it….but when I saw the wooden one I replaced the jeanie (gave it to a friend) because I just love wood!!! Love all your tree trunk tables by the way.🤩 must admit I prefer to cake up my skeins because when the get small they get floppy, plus I love playing with my winder 🤣. I bought extra spindles with the jeanie and I kept them because it’s handy if you are working with multiple colours. I believe you can put one cake onto of the other and work that way but I haven’t tried it. Bye 💁🏼♀️
Hi Krista😊 I was on Lucas Yarns and he was talking about the Yarn Genie. That one came from the UK an was too expensive. So I looked it up on Walmart. I brought 3 small size of your scratchy holder. I just love it 🤩. I was using cakes with the center pull but after a while it collapses on itself and then I get a tangled mess. Also thought it would work great for doing two time socks. I've lost my crojo after doing c2c blankets (twin/queen).Thanks for the unboxing always great to hear your input.
This was a very interesting. I would maybe sand under the edge of the one that drags. Personally I like natural color wood but they both look nice. Have a great day Christa. ❤
I have been wanting one of these but wasn't sure if they would work. I live in Nova Scotia Canada and they are a lot more expensive here even on Amazon but from watching your video I think I will invest in one thank you for sharing👍🇨🇦
As a fellow Nova Scotian, I bought one about a month ago on Amazon, $45 with taxes in - worth every single penny! Ideal with caked up skeins but even crochet thread on a cardboard core flows smoothly.
I have 4 "wool jeannie"s bought from Wool warehouse. I've used them for years. I like them for hanks, balls, skeins, and cakes. Try it out. They are plastic not wood. But great
Interesting video. I have been considering these gadgets. Did you ever get Amazon delivery. It seems like i recall you opening or recommending some Amazon products in the past.
I would have loved to see how they do while you work because it's not always the same as just tugging it from the ball (at least that's my experience, I have one like your cheaper one and it just gets stuck a lot depending on where it is compared to where i'm working)
I have the South African version- it easily holds a 300g jumbo skein, but it has plastic components so you probably wouldn’t want to give it a try. Anyway I find I still need to cake up, as the yarn gets stuck between the skein and the circular platform it sits on so becomes a bit of an irritation. But cakes work great. I use mine when I’m working with 1 color only as I only have 1 🫣😜
I like the wooden ones, I’ve seen a plastic kind but not the wood. It looks great and works great. I’m going to check it out. Thank you for sharing. 🧶💜🙏🏻

Hi, @user-pc1jf7py4i!! That's awesome! Thanks so much for sharing! 🌻🌺🌼
I don't use them but they sure are cute/cool looking, even just sitting on a shelf with a ball of yarn on them. Makes for cute decor when not in use.
I know, riiiiight, @candygrubisic?? Thank you for sharing! 🌸🌼🌺
Now if you work 2 colors at a time you have a holder for each one 😊

Hi, @LC-ck8xc!! Thanks so much for sharing! 🌻🌺🌼
@oakstrong1 my paper towel holder has like satin finish on the metal and my yarn does spin.
I have these 1 a plastic which we had to clamp to the table as it was too light and a wooden one. I love both of mine.

Hi Christa I have one but it smaller and it just has the one pole and the round thing on bottom.
That's awesome, @jennyhookings5878! Thank you!! 🌸👍🌺
I have the peg one, but mine sticks and doesn't spin well. I don't even know where I put it, but just ordered the magnet one.
Hi, @emilyburch1855!! That would be frustrating! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
I like the little one. I would try waxing where the friction sound comes from. Should be ok. But I like that one.
That's a great idea, @jeannieteaallaboutyarnknit3564! 👍 Thanks!! 🌺🌼🌸
Hi Christa had to catch the replay❤
Hi, @TheKellyHaggerty!! Oh I am so glad you did! Thanks so much! 🌻🌺🌼
Try the wool Jennie under lama mama Kayla ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤I like mine 😊

I got mine at a craft fair about $35 US from a local artist.
That's awesome, @JHermanson! Thank you for sharing!! 🌸👍🌺
If you have several, you don't have to switch balls when using more than 1 color in your work!
That's a great idea, @katrienvh4289! 👍 Thanks!! 🌺🌼🌸
Hello 👋👋👋
Hi, @jeannieteaallaboutyarnknit3564!! Thank you! 🌻🌺🌼
💗
I bought a double yarn ball holder it lets the yarn get under the yarn pin . I am not really impressed with it.
Thanks for your feedback, @user-ld6bf6zs4w! 🌴🍨✨
I use mine when I’m working with 1 color only as I only have 1 🫣😜
Thanks so much for sharing, @natashasakko1289! That's a good one!! xx
My is plastic and I payed more than you did for all 3of your I want to get a wooden one lol
