Yea not sure. Oh well. Thanks man. Love my 400. Actually both my 98, and 99 are amazing bikes. Never ridden a 450 yet (bike). They are sweet as well! I am not brand specific. Just have preferences. Happy riding!
I ride a 99 too I love it the one thing that sucks is someone converted it to street legal and cut up the front plate I just need to order a new one of those
Still a beast I have over 250 hours on it and it’s runs like a bat out of Hell. I change the engine oil full synthetic Yama lube about once every five rides keeps it going.
Awesome man. I love seeing people keeping bikes like these running. The YZ400F is such a cool ass bike from a really interesting chapter of motocross/dirt bike history.
Yea! They are great bikes!! Have had two now. Now I have a talaria sting, so I ride that a lot. Also a great bike. Just more expensive and slower. But almost silent!! Love it. Happy riding!!!
@@jondoe6618 thank you! That's what I want, is something reliable. I don't want to get miles into a mountain somewhere and find myself walking back out. Stock 400 has better reliability but less speed but you put cams gearing etc on that 400f and it’ll take a 450 on pretty decently and still better reliability
Lucas Mercier thanks for the suggestion. There is a few jumps and a track we ride on. This was just my first ride on a unknown bike. Just testing it before anything big.

My yz400f is really hard to start, and sometimes it pops and backfires a lot and sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes it idles fine and sometimes it doesnt as well. It sounds like its running lean to me. Any ideas? someone told me it might be my valves
1998 YZ400f is without a doubt the most dependable bike ever made,We have 3 of those beasts & people swoon over them !
Rhonda Palmer very dependable for sure. These bikes are just great. Thanks for watching.
I think im getting one this weekend and cant wait
Air cooled 4 strokes are far more reliable like an XR but yes 5 valve Yamaha’s are some of the most dependable modern style four strokes.
I got first year 03 WR450 and the same thing. Yamaha the best.
I'm not sure why anyone would dislike this video.. sick bike and nice riding! I ride a 99

Brothers slip on.
Fmf titanium 4 sounds good too
OH i miss my yz450f
Yea they are fun as heck!! Thanks man!
About how fast have you gotten your yz going top speed?
fast as it will go. I imagine its geared to do around 75.
My last bike was a 99 with a White bros E series 2 exhaust,I traded it for a 92 F-250 extended cab 4x4. I made a horrible mistake that day.
Looks like a familiar area, power lines out near vasa and broomhead road?
no no no well maybe ;)
I'm considering buying one of these in very good condition. Can someone tell me how well these do trail riding them? Do they hold up well?

How does the 400 compare to a 450 in power and reliability
Stock 400 has better reliability but less speed but you put cams gearing etc on that 400f and it’ll take a 450 on pretty decently and still better reliability
Hey i found one of these that I wanna buy but I’m trying to figure out about how fast it is….what bike would you compare it to?
As far as speed it’s about the same as a 250 2 stroke. Just heavier and better power control. Mines geared to do about 65 mph.
I put a 450 carb on it backfires when decelerating. Any ideas on what I can do?
Usually a backfire is too lean. Look at the pilot jet.
Mine also did this and had a huge bog on the low end. Try changing your needle height as well. It’s so easy to do.
If it were up to me ofcourse I would find a nice lil jump set the camera and this vid be golden afterward
