      I'm a 25 yr old high school dropout, that has only worked part-time jobs for the past 9 years. What he says in this video about "meaning" really hits home with me. I'm a very quick learner but a terrible student, and have always been unmotivated in general. I'm now in between jobs again until august, and have been studying economics online for the past few weeks. I have no idea where the interest came from, but after watching this I feel more empowered to go for it, and maybe actually get a degree after all!

      Jacob Clifford depends. What type of social life. If developed connections through my social life that helped build up my network and create a wide web of opportunities when I graduate. I guess it all depends what you do during your social time more than black and white between social and school.

      @YashArya01 3 года назад

      @@niraj6728 All the emphasis on networking and making contacts, while important, is secondary to developing productive skills. Before anything else, you need to produce value. Once you have a set of skills that you can market, it's a great next step to network and build contacts. Unfortunately people seem to believe that they can just get through a whole career providing no real value (and sadly some do, because other departments provide enough value to drag them along).

    Man, Mr. Clifford we have had such similar lives.
    I'm 23, went to a year of school out in the mid-west to play college football - didn't end up working out due to an Achilles injury.
    Rehabbed and then went on my mission, only to have the same injury come back to bite me mid-mission.
    At this point after the mission I'm almost 22 and started going to community college and FINALLY found a passion in business/economics.
    Up until now (where I'm 23), I've felt like I'm "behind". Most people at my university that I just recently transferred to are younger or finishing up their degree. But watching your video...hahaha man it gave me the feels. Sometimes we can just get too "inside our heads" and overthink the past....and when I say "we"...I mean "me" haha.
    I just wanted to say THANK YOU for sharing. Seeing someone who has been through that not-so-narrow path out of high school really just gave me the moral boost I didn't know I needed.
    'preciate ya brotha!!

    Just started teaching macro and micro at a local community college and on my first day I talked about the value/need of "meaning in one's life." Truly a comparative advantage for meaning found in Christ. My life was very similar to yours..... Homeless, military during "Nam," took ownership of my future, worked brutally hard in college, then work, then grad school. A lot of sweat equity and pain. Wanted to die one night from a brutal ailment. Short, very sincere "help, God, I cannot do this anymore" plea and awoke healed. I have never been the same. Have the best wife and true meaning. I am filthy "rich." 👍

    Didn't realise this is a recent video lol. Love it. Currently in college, huge step for anyone from my mom's side. Being a sheltered child with depression and anxiety has made it really tough. Didn't do so hot in my second semester so I'm resitting those courses. Don't really have a skill so I'm still searching. Finding meaning in my life has probably been the hardest part because when I get depressed, my nihilism kicks into hyperdrive. Not religious either so that wasn't much of an option. Most of the time I think I make the effort to make my family proud but I'm going to look for reasons to work hard for myself. Thank you for this, would love to see another one.
