    One thing I think is important to say is that things have changed if you are on Intelligent Octopus, the export is now 15p, this in contrast to the 7.5p per kWh for 6 hours at night, as such its financially far better to sell your energy back instead of diverting to Eddi or Zappi and then just buy at night. I have both the Eddi and Zappi and don't use the Eddi at all now as it doesn't make sense, you could argue about carbon intensity but generally its also greener to export as much as possible as night time is normally less.

      Came here to say the same, "20kW per phase" I had no idea Myenergi made inverters that big, then I realised they meant kWh and were actually talking about the maximum battery capacity per phase

    The Zappi is functionally a great piece of kit, but it does look like a toilet seat ! Myenergi need to update the aesthetics of the charger, it looks cheap to me and this is what turns me off. Also the LCD screen needs an update to a more modern look, it's looking a bit dated.

    So, I wonder how you con these people into paying for battery systems when they are already on grid?
    What possible benefit could you offer for the massive cost of inverters and batter management and the batteries themselves (which will need replacing every 3 years if you charge in the day and discharge at night. Every year if you're selling them Lead Acid).
    5KWH of electricity is currently worth £1.50, but if you don't use it yourself you can sell it to the grid via net metering. UNLESS you make more than you use in total, which you almost certainly won't for 6 months of the year. So you MIGHT save a couple of KWH per day off your bill for 180 days a year - so 60p a day. Given maintenance costs installation cost and battery life (at only 2kwh per day they will last twice as long as I suggested above) what is the repayment time for this extra gear? My back of an envelope calculation says 0.6x180 = £108 saving per year. 5KWH of deep cycle batteries ~£500, Installation ~£300, Charge controllers and Inverters ~£300. So if everything worked forever it would take 11 years to repay BUT being generous, a new set of batteries every 5 years would take another ~£500 every 5 years, so you'd basically NEVER make a profit.

    • @artisanelectrics
      @artisanelectrics  5 месяцев назад

      Lead acid?! What planet are you on? 🤣🤣🤣
      You need to see what modern tech is out there. These have a warranty of ten years for the battery pack with unlimited cycles.

    Yeah it’s an ad. But it is targeted at folk without any smart way to use the energy. If you had a monster FIT, you might not want to self consume, but if it’s equal or less than your day rate, sticking in a battery, tank, UFH, car rather than let it go out cheap makes sense, and the tools to do it are in this video. Top marks to Reuben for the physics lesson in the eddi bit.

    • @Fishbait075
      @Fishbait075 5 месяцев назад +1

      I was under the impression that if its the earlier versions of the FIT payment system. You still earn the FIT payment even if your self-consuming / re-absorbing it into your own car/water tank/battery system.

    • @occamraiser
      @occamraiser 5 месяцев назад

      No no no no no, the costs are simply offering no realistic repayment rate. Even for people who are willing to buy panels that will take 20 years to repay the investment the numbers for battery storage are nonsense unless you are off-grid.

    • @occamraiser
      @occamraiser 5 месяцев назад

      Yes you do. But you not only got the payment for generating the power you could also sell it back to the grid in addition.....however you got a lower price than you paid to buy it, so there is a miniscule justification for using your power rather than selling it to the grid, but pence per unit..... not enough to pay for a battery system - not in the real world.@@Fishbait075

    • @artisanelectrics
      @artisanelectrics  5 месяцев назад

      That’s complete tosh 😂 do your calculations properly. Most people can easily achieve a 10 year payback with solar and battery storage, sometimes a lot less.

    • @mikebarry229
      @mikebarry229 5 месяцев назад

      @@artisanelectrics😅 "Complete tosh" is an incredibly polite but accurate way of saying it. Payback on my system will be about 5 years. Less than that if I use the system to export at times of peak demand. You have to think beyond just solar. With a battery system you can extend the period of the year that you are self sufficient (if you have solar) but you can also use the batteries to just purchase your power at off peak rates which with some available tariffs can quarter your electricity costs.

  • @webzterd
    @webzterd 5 месяцев назад

    Bought a new build with a 5 panel solar setup already installed.
    I have CT clamp monitoring of my circuits that last couple of months and I know that our daytime is much shorter right now but I have been gobsmacked to learn that out of the last 5 days, 3 of them have had literally zero kWh generated.

    • @robertsprigge5535
      @robertsprigge5535 5 месяцев назад

      Indeed, I was totally unaware at the dramatic bias between the seasons for Solar power. You can have as much battery capacity as you want, but with zero Solar...

    • @artisanelectrics
      @artisanelectrics  5 месяцев назад +1

      Yeah that’s winter in the UK! It will get better. If you have battery and a smart tardif tho you can do clever things like charge the battery overnight cheaply and use it to run the house during the day - significantly reducing your overall energy rate during winter.

    Unconvincing advert for people with more money than sense. ALWAYS CALCUATE THE RETURN ON INVESTMENT and repayment time. Batteries are horribly horribly cost inefficient unless you are actually off grid. Selling people with a grid connection a battery system is, ..... well..... I don't want to say dishonest...... so...... difficult to justify.

    • @artisanelectrics
      @artisanelectrics  5 месяцев назад +1

      Completely false information do your research properly. Battery storage significantly increases ROI on solar and with smart tariffs now and the opportunity to charge the batteries on cheap electricity overnight and sell back to the grid at peak times or use that energy yourself at peak times it gets even more attractive from an ROI point of view.

    • @mikebarry229
      @mikebarry229 5 месяцев назад

      It's all about doing the maths and designing a system that suits your usage, and how willing you are to make use of smart tariffs. If your normal electricity use is 5kWh a day dont install a 20kWh battery unless you intend to use smart tariffs to export to the grid and make money that way. As we move more and more towards greener technology to heat our homes such as ASHP's battery systems can be a huge part of making them cost effective.
