Me too but I'm still having trouble getting sound from it !! And what is this membrane thing ? To change the key ? I'm finding I may need to cover a hole with duct tape to get any sound. Why have that extra hole if it needs to be covered ? That's the only way I can get any sound. I played a metal woodwind flute for 30 years so I thought this would be easy hahaha.

Really appreciate this video, currently working on some I've made and trying to refine the sound. The clarity of the higher-end design is very remarkable!
The "reverb" is actually a sustain caused by the "dimo", a reed membrane built into the flute. Because the size of the flute is larger and the harmonic wave is lower, the body of the flute stores more of the resonant energy for a fraction of a second. The principle is similar, though not exactly, to how an acoustic guitar body affects the vibration of the strings. Even if the string is muted, the guitar continues to resonate for a brief moment.
Cosmic, Do you have any idea how instruments work? That's not what a dimo even does. The point of the membrane is to create a buzzing sound to enhance the natural sound of the instrument. No membrane in the world can create reverb like this as reverb is only felt when the original sound and the reflected sound wave arrive at different intervals to the listener Eg. Large room with hard walls or more in this case effects added to highlight the instrument. If you dont know the answer to something, dont just make shit up, just makes you look like an idiot.

amazon, aliexpress, lots of choices but just don't put all your love in one dizi, because eventually they might crack or something in the future. A good musician is always good because its them that is good, not the instrument. You should see how some flute players can play a $20 flute with pro skills, normal people can't tell the difference between their $20k flute. I appreciate your content on the dizi flute, but it's a shame that you added the reverb to the last flute. It would have been nice to have a fair comparison. I watched your other concert flute videos to check, and I realised that you do admit that you edit the audio, so I'm not making that an issue. I just wish we could hear the concert flute at the same levels as the other flutes. Adding reverb just distorts its true nature. If it is a truly beautiful instrument, it should sound beautiful even without help from you. Thanks anyway, hope you will show the real sound in a future video maybe.

It’s taken it’s place as the favourite piece in my heart. I’d love to know the Mandarin for it so I could find more versions of it/ material on it
I very much enjoy the lower key "concert" dizi, and not just because it exhibited more reverb. but, can you recommend a reliable location to purchase such an instrument? (please do not simply say eBay, as I need more guidance to discern I am truly obtaining a quality instrument) I do live near a China Town in Bostob, MA... but I recall only ever seeing "gift shop dizis" .. I will research if there are quality music stores there. also, on the lower dizi, I notice the two holes at the far end of the instrument. what are those for? thank you
I have watched more of your (and other's) videos on dizi. and I have many of my questions now answered :) I am still searching for a good hard-case for the dizi to keep it safe during travels. Would you recommend other things to keep it from cracking during travel, such as a humidifier or something else? I used to practice dizi 10 years ago. I practiced on a cheap dizi from a gift shop. I learned to produce notes and different octaves, along with some techniques for further decorating the sound. I plan on purchasing another cheap dizi to reacquire my skills.
Hi Mak JoSi, I am going to buy my 10 years daughter for Chinese Flute, and she will self learn by herself with book. Can u recommend the name of flute and book? I will be very grateful for your kindness. Thank you.
My ear and mind combined tell me that the last flute has been effected and made wet with reverb. At 7.20mins the flute embodies the acoustics of a cave.
Do you have a link for that third one you played? the "mega" long one? That is the exact sound im looking for to accompany my other music that I play. I would prefer in the key of F. and yes I am willing to pay over $150 but not over $200
Very nice video! Are you familiar with a store in Guangzhou that specializes in making and selling dizis and xiaos that can be used to play Cantonese music? My friend from Hong Kong told me about it, but I am not sure of its address.
I had to order one online because I couldn't find one anywhere around.. it says nothing about the size I've ordered Gkey. I wonder what size is it usually when you order online?
It cost about $100 range in CAD, and yes there is a traditional way of holding the dizi, which I will demonstrate in the future vid coming up soon. See my new dizi vide and you might notice I changed to that method too. It's not a personal preference, it's for better control and also less tiring for the arms, and also your fingers can move faster and freely while not locking up the joints. I will explain that in a tutorial video. It's really a big improvement but also a big change with the brain logic.... I suggest starting by using all fingers to cover the holes like how you would do with a recorder, that's easy for the brain to digest and understand for the beginning stage.
yes, and if oyu hear my later playing footage, it's even more obvious too. The cheaper one also don't stick the membrane well, weird.. it just likes to come off! The good stuff will stick forever!
Interesting! I bought a mid-range (listed as 'student' quality but it's definitely better then your basic $5 one) F-key flute as I'm just starting out. I had no problems with the dimo myself and never bothered with the tape, but I can understand how most students would have an easier time with it. Guess I'm stubborn.

On a Clover-Covered Hill hahaha! Not sure who made it now because I am not around the dizi at the moment, but definitely it's handcrafted and cost about $100 USD or something. It's a bass G key. Very nice tone!
Chiinnature I know this comment is 5 years old but do you by chance know where I can purchase a high quality dizi I like the last one?
Sounds beautiful, And You definitely added some reverb to enhance the sound at 7:00. Great job though. Thanks for sharing.
Not the only one that caught that
you have a natural playing music sound
its very nice a approachable music, i like that
where did you get that first dizi?
do you have a link on amazon?
the G Dizi was great! such nice deep sound ;]
Diao Chan also wants her instrument back as well
what's the name of the software you used to enhance the quality of the sound from 7:03? I want to use that for my flute too. Thanks
Trung Hieu Tran Adobe Soundbooth CS5
Thanks a lot Mak Jo Si, this helped me a lot for choosing my first dizi! Great video as always
ryei6 Great!! hope you play well with your dizi!
I don’t think the price makes a difference when he makes it sound that good 😌 so beautiful the Chinese flute , if you like this check out how we play bamboo nose flutes in Hawaii . Look up Hawaiian nose flute
Thanks for the video
this is really informative!
What is a Dizi, 'Pluggable' Bamboo Flute (emphasis on Pluggable)
CaoCao Guan Yu LuBu Liubei Zhangfei all called me and said they want you to give them their weapons back lol. Hey I need help I bought a DiZi it looks similar to the D key DiZi you played here but mine is obviously a knockoff should I use some kind of treatment inside the Dizi? Mineral spirits or something to improve the harmonious sound or no?
Haloo Mr. Marco,..help me please , where can i buy the Chine flute, Dizi for profesional and very soft sound...thank you so much
I would have liked to hear the large concert version without reverb added.
email me at celestialmastermak@chiinnature.com
Any recommendations on what brand or artist to purchase from for a good quality beginner Dizi?
Could anyone tell me the hanzi name of the song played at 4:16?
I’ve loved this piece for a while, but was only able to find it under its English name ‘Empty Temple’ on Soundcloud and Spotify.
I will research if there are quality music stores there.
also, on the lower dizi, I notice the two holes at the far end of the instrument. what are those for?
thank you
I have watched more of your (and other's) videos on dizi. and I have many of my questions now answered :)
I am still searching for a good hard-case for the dizi to keep it safe during travels.
I'm getting ready to buy my first Dizi; any recommendations for a beginner as far as size/brand/type/key? Thanks!
+Percy Shaw anything about 20-50 bucks is fine, C or D key as a start up is pretty easy
First one really isn’t that bad. I am buying it. I only have so much money lolz.
I would prefer in the key of F. and yes I am willing to pay over $150 but not over $200
how to get a sound like that concert grade flute do i have to buy g scale flute
OMG THAT SONG WITH THE THIRD LARGE DIZI WAS SO BAUETIFUL AND MAGICAL!!! im gonna learn how to play it lol
+Dysjenco Figaroa its because theres was reverb added to the recording, still i agree it is darn beautiful
but there is reverb
probably the acoustics of the room, whether he added it or not, there is still reverb in the recording
Lewis Karl he didn't add reverbs. it actually sounds like that. especially since he used the bamboo membrane.
@@CreatingwithWinglessAngel What is the name of this instrument. The big one.
How much does the second flute cost? Is there a more traditional way of holding the dizi, or is it personal preference either way?
Thanks so much! Can't wait for the new vid!
Luciano Benigni
it's up today! check our channel !
A very good video. Thanks!
Where can I find that first one in India??? Is there any online shopping where i can get this dizi?
You can really hear the difference in the higher octave.
yes, and if oyu hear my later playing footage, it's even more obvious too.
Naomi Dong yes, but not as cheap as the $5 ones, because they don't give you a good experience and make your life a LOT harder
I am really curious. Is the way you pronounce Dizi from a specific dialect?
I haven't heard it pronounced that way by anyone else.
Zachary Morris Cantonese it is.
