i have been looking for this tutorial for a long long time almost 99% of github tutorials teach you to set up a website via github using the command line but it's pretty hard and besides, it's only a simple hosting, why go thru all that hard work to do something so simple?? This is why this tutorial is a lifesaver.
YOU ARE A LIFE SAVER DUDE! I'm in the 4th grade I've been coding a website in the computer lab because I get bored of Excel and PowerPoint a lot! So I started making a website for me and my friend. I've created pages upon pages, and I found that you can get a hosting package from your ISP which I thought was stupid because you can easily find IP'S from pinging a website. Then I found all the other ones were expensive, so I got so stressed. I thought I would never be able to show everyone my skill, and I kinda wanted to teach others. So thank you so much! I'm not paying for a domain cause I'm alright giving my friends a bit.ly link.
I love this video!! I've been searching for videos on this for hours and they all show how to setup Github pages but noone mentions how to do it with an existing domain. Super! And it's very detailed - you can't go wrong!
Thank you. Thank you. I had already launched on github pages and namecheap. This was *so* easy but I managed to waste well over an hour on the separate help pages before finding this. Thanks!!!
Excellent video. I am currently using squarespace. I created all of my pages using basic HTML and some cash where needed. GitHub pages sounds like a possible alternative for me . Two questions. How would I add an ask certificate to my site?
Alexander K If you need a lot of server side code to run (things like charging credit cards or sending texts), it's a little harder to do that right now with github pages.
After following your steps I'm getting a namecheap website when going to my domain. it says "This domain was recently registered by Namecheap. Please check back later" I will check in a day or so and hope that it comes on.
Any chance anyone could tell me the benefit of hosting on Github instead of just using freenon or any other free hosting site. I'm new to hosting sites.
Amazing, Thankyou so much. Just one question though? I already have a offline website created with Muse consisting on more than one page, all saved in a single folder, is this method still applicable in such case ???
Your way was super easy awesome job ! although how is this possible does github know about this ? you can host a website for free without limite ?! this sounds too good to be true what is the catch ?
Thank you Christian.Quick question -is backend supported in github.oi since I have form in my website and i want to add php so i can get the form information in the database. Thanks again bro
Hey man thanks for sharing us this. But I in another video, what he does is make a new repo called [yourusername].github.io without making a branch called gh-pages. Why is that ??
Hi Christian, Thanks for the video! I've got my index.html file ready to go, but it also needs the css and javascript with it. When I just upload all 3 files together on github its like they can't read each other. Any advice? Thanks!
They definitely should be able to read each other. If you upload a css file just like the index.html file and name it "style.css", you should be able to read it from your HTML file with:

I added my CSS file but I am not sure how to link to that CSS file in the html document. How do you link the style sheet with github?
i think need to put / before the filename like so: "/style.css"
Thank you Christian.Quick question -is backend supported in github.oi since I have form in my website and i want to add php so i can get the form information in the database. Thanks again bro
Github doesn't support backend code. You might look at hook.io/ to run php functions and call them from static javascript code on github.io.
How do i add css files to the website?
Upload a css file just like the index.html file and name it "style.css", import it to your HTML file with:
