Brings back long distant memories of Uptight, the late 60's Saturday pop music program on Chasnnel 10 that Ross D Wyllie hosted. I watched it religiously. Thank you for the clip.
i remember ross as a kid in his music store in bayswater, I was around 10 and it was 1974, i used to buy my drum sticks from him, he allways had time to talk to this kid who is now 44 and still playin, such happy times and such lovely lyrics, what is he doing know ?
He was my first love, I wrote him a letter in Grade 6 telling him how beautiful his wife was when TV week ran a photo of her and their baby Christian. I didn't sent it, I wasn't brave enough.
i'm a big Ray Stevens fan. Ray wrote this song in 1963 and I learned a few minutes ago that this pop singer had a Top-20 hit with it in Australia in 1969.
@oldbag699 he was, look at him. I am in my 50s but when I see him like this I am again pre-teen and think he is gorgeous. Don't be embarassed, I totally agree. :)
@time4sleeping it would be fantastic to see him and i loved jeff st john he came to our school when i was about 123 oops i mean 12 - 13 not 123 thats how i feel today lol lol lol - he was great too - i dont know why they just seem to fade into oblivion - if anyone knows what happened to ross can u maybe post it
I thought he had polio as a child? I have a few of his records, just love him. What is he doing now? I remember he had a son Christian around 1970/71 and another boy? after. Saw him at a market once and recognised his voice but too shy to say hello. Been looking for ages what is he doing these days? Any photos we can see and please tell him he is still thought of by people who loved him when they were 8 yrs old, now in my late 40's. XX
@smacker57 I laughed at that too. Nothing wrong with being gay funny man, we still love the song and wish Ross would join up with other singers for the RSL tour for us 'oldies' to enjoy.
As much as I love many of Ray Stevens songs, both his comedy and "serious" songs, I far prefer this version of Funny Man from Ross D. Wylie, over Ray's version.
@time4sleeping its funny eh when u look back and see they look so strnage now - but he was gorgouedo u know what has happened to him i never see anything about him - i used to love to watch Go Set - i think thats what is was called -

@5micky2 was it called uptight or go set was go set the magazine - oh i loved ross on that show
Ray Stevens wrote it - but this version is way better!
@smacker57 I laughed at that too. Nothing wrong with being gay funny man, we still love the song and wish Ross would join up with other singers for the RSL tour for us 'oldies' to enjoy.

This must have been the first version you heard and you dismissed any other version. Ray's 1963 original version RULES!!
I have to agree. RDW's voice and delivery is far more suited to the song, in my opinion.
Ross answer us please!!!!!
I used to go to that store in Bayswater. Is it still there? Is Ross still in Melbourne? Great days!!

@time4sleeping thanks time that would be really good ty
@oldbag699 His neice and nephew put some clips up of him but they didn't say what he was doing now. I'll see if I can find them.
Good on you.
It was considerably shorter, like several inches, and he walked with a pronounced limp.
every human has one leg shorter than the other
Nice cover but it lacks the sincerity of Ray Stevens original.
i used to think he was beautiful
( ha ha ha )
