  • Many conservative Christian students at Liberty University have had just about enough of Donald Trump. Apparently they didn’t get the memo that Republicans politicians were just kidding about all that Jesus stuff. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. Tell us what you think in the comment section below. tytnetwork.com/...
"Students at Virginia’s Liberty University have issued a statement against Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump as young conservatives at some colleges across the country reconsider support for his campaign.
A statement issued late Wednesday by the group Liberty United Against Trump strongly rebuked the candidate as well as the school’s president, Jerry Falwell Jr., for defending Trump after he made vulgar comments about women in a 2005 video.
“Donald Trump does not represent our values and we want nothing to do with him,” the statement read, in part. “He has made his name by maligning others and bragging about his sins. Not only is Donald Trump a bad candidate for president, he is actively promoting the very things that we as Christians ought to oppose.”
Many campus Republican groups have not endorsed their party’s nominee.
Nationally, Trump seems to have less support from younger Republicans. Less than two-thirds of Republican-leaning voters under 30 support Trump, while more than three-quarters of 30-to-64-year-olds and 85 percent of seniors do, in an average of September Washington Post-ABC national polls. They were less likely to support Trump in the Republican primaries and caucuses earlier this year.”*

I definitely don't support rape either. But I'll tell something, I along with many others couldn't give any less of a shit what happens to people like you.

Yes the younger generation is more liberal because they have access to more information. That is true everywhere, including conservative religious places. That's how I know a 22 year old refugee from the Middle East doesn't want to impose a Muslim theocracy on a western country.

It is time that we got to vote for someone who represents our values rather than having to vote for the lesser of two evils. Millennials understand that, and a lot of them are voting for a third party Candidate that actually has values and policies that make sense for the future. Go Green

tecnoklaus Hillary would be better than Trump at least she has the maturity and intellect to be president. Unlike Trump who is just an immature snake oil salesman who says one thing in the morning changes his position in the afternoon and says the opposite in the evening. She isn't a racist like Trump either. A trump presidency would be far more dangerous and do more damage than a Clinton presidency. Neither of them represent the best option though Clinton is just the lesser of two evils.

    • @tomlinid
      @tomlinid 7 лет назад

Pamela Tammi It's a shame the states doesn't have proportional representation. It would give a government that represents the people more than special interests. Hillary and Trump are very unpopular with the electorate and I think many people are looking at them and saying which one would be the worse? People aren't thinking which one is the better and who has the moral character to be president. In my opinion a Trump presidency would be a disaster for the America and the world. He has a mouth like a cesspit, he is a racist and doesn't posses the temperament to be in the highest office in the land. He is correct about the national debt but his policies would probably increase it more than Hillary. Neither of them are that bothered about issues such as global warming and Hillary is in the pocket of special interests like Wall Street. They both tell lies and neither of them can be trusted.

DO a background check on her don't give me that crap that people change over time they're still looking into her charity people from Haiti are protesting here in New York where the hell did all that charity money went to for the hurricane and downright earthquake that destroyed that country.

You have a lot of White Supremacists and Neo-Nazis that hold Trump not only as their guy, but as their chance to re-seat power on the Federal level. In their minds they already won. If he loses, it will be ripping that away from them. Now they will never blame themselves or Trump for it. They have already excused every rotten thing he does, if not flat out agree with it. So they will scapegoat someone for "stealing" something they think they already have. Who will it be? The other obviously. Blacks, browns, women, "mud" people, etc... But the people they will blame the most, as they always do? Jews!
I see a spike in violence on the people they blame. I wouldn't be surprised if we see a few old fashioned Klan marches in full sheets and hoods. This is their big shot. And if violence against the "others" does happen, I don't believe it will show up on mainstream media because they will still continue with the narrative that terrorism only comes from Islam and when white right wing conservatives do violence they are just individual crazy lone wolves...nothing to see here, move along.

Gotta challenge something Cenk. You said the internet is responsible for younger people being more informed. I first thought yes, then thought some more. I'm 63, white, male, blue collar - totally against Trump - voted for Bernie - and now will vote for the first woman President. In the 60's we didn't have the net but I think you should consider what we DID have. TV was the net of that age. It was good and bad of course. But the shows that influenced me were, among others, The Twilight Zone, Route 66, Star Trek (original) etc. Many of those addressed what was then controversial and even taboo. And, we had real journalists like Conkrite. We also had time - a little space between being bombarded 24/7. In this era or any other, sources that provoke thought, empathy, different views, new ideas etc have always been available - not so easily perhaps - which in turn may have made for stronger intellect, or conversely, weaker ones. Just as the internet also does today.

Hi guys, I'm a current Liberty student, and while I liked the video, there were a few small things I wanted to set straight -
(Btw, I signed the petition the second I saw it. I'm a Gary Johnson supporter here, which is another trial in and of itself, but I digress)
First, even though it gained a lot of attention, a lot of people here will still vote for Trump. That being said, most of those voters not voting for Trump because they like him, but because they are worried about a Conservative Supreme Court, or believe that voting for a third party is a waste, or some such reason. There are some rude Trump supporters here though.
Second, we don't get brainwashed here, despite what a lot of people may think/say. We are encouraged to question why we believe what we believe when it comes to pretty much everything, and it just so happens that we do end of seeing things often in a way that is constant with the NT.
Third, while the Bible does teach respect to authority, it also says to hold people accountable to what the Bible says (James 5:16, Galatians 6:1-5). Religion doesn't really control us.
Fourth, (3:48 in the video) (my biggest point) while Jerry most assuredly has his faults, he is NOT a hateful person. Don't reference his comment about "ending those Muslims", I was there when he said it, it was incredibly clear that "those" in the statement was referring to extremists, not Muslims as a whole.
To finish, if any of y'all have questions about Liberty, go ahead and ask me anything (Please don't be a troll, I just want to clarify misconceptions).

Back in the Great War/World War 1, they used to refer to Nostalgia as a mental disease. The reason they did so was because solders who became home sick and couldn't stop thinking of the PAST, didn't push forward and make progress in battle. Conservatism and Nostalgia, have this in common. Conservatives, especially older ones, have Nostalgia and do everything they can to fight against progress. They want the 50's back because that was their childhood in alot of cases. If your a younger, conservative than you haven't experienced that time, but you have been told be the older generation of how great it was and how much they want to see that time come again, and as the new generation you believe them because they were your parents or grand parents, how could they be wrong? The problem is as with Nostalgia, you develope a bias infavor of anything you are familiar with from your past, even when that thing or time in general was actually a very bad time with alot of very deplorable acts being committed daily as a norm. With younger people it isn't Nostalgia but FOMO that drives this behavior. Their parents and grand parents said it was a great time and they feel like they missed out and want to see it for themselves. This problem in particular also affects Christian's, Muslims, and most other people with religious backgrounds only it's more than just their parents and grand parents, but everyone in that community and spreading the same FOMO/Nostalgia for the times of the PAST and in some cases this gets so extreme that terrorist organisations arise and start actively trying to force it down everyones throats in the most violent ways imaginable. What puts all of this into context is the very word Conservative, it means to preserve and hold on to. As anyone would tell you holding on to the past can weigh you down and ultimately leads to suffering as a result. But, instead of letting go so they can be free, they keep holding on, becoming miserable, and spreading that misery because misery loves company. This is why, to me Conservatism isn't a political view, it's a mental disorder and merits clinical help. If you are a Conservative, get help because Trump is ultimately symptom of this disorder affecting millions of people.

The Washington Post article states that 1300 students, alumni and faculty have signed their protest (of the students it says between 200-1200). It doesn't indicate how many faculty and alumni but still you have mention some alumni and faculty have signed on.
Further, you need to state the total student population of Liberty University. It says 15000 resident and 90000 online students. But when you google it it says the total enrollment is 110000. Of which over 900 are international. So basically, 109000 american students are enrolled here. So a little over 10 percent of Liberty University students have protested. I don't think what you have in this videos has been a fair representation of the article.

younger people know how to research and have access to more knowledge than previous generations. to argue against THAT is just silly. we can learn in 1 year what it took someone ten years to learn before. don't be bitter about it. be glad things are better.

10 to 1 huh.. I also know how to do research and I also have access to more knowledge and I have a decades long head start. And if you think things are getting better then you don't have enough experience or perspective. I'm not bitter. If anything I am ashamed and guilty of the mess we are leaving behind. I don't want to get off topic, but the people living today, young and old, will be remembered for what we didn't do, despite all the evidence we had at our disposal.
Every generation feels the same way. I'm not saying it's a terrible thing. That confidence and arrogance pushes things forward, but I wouldn't be quite so dismissive. One day you will get the same argument from your kids. Hopefully, by then, your generation's legacy will be an improvement on ours, but you are not starting in the right place if you believe you "know it all" already.
