Another fun fact: Before Uma and O-Ren fight, O-Ren says, “you won’t last 5 minutes.” the fight between the two proceeds to last exactly 4 minutes and 59 seconds.
Anoooother fun fact. You can see The Bride's real name way before it's revealed on her airplane ticket to Tokyo.
Damn that's crazy, how do you guys catch this type of stuff? Amazing 😂
@@HTxGhost24 reddit and then i watch a lot of film essays on film
@@harrisonrosemont damn good job sir!! I like finding out these little facts that no one usually catches
Yeah, I think making it so short was also to show the level of Uma Thurmans character vs the other assassins and why Bill held her with such high regard.
I remember when Bill delivered the last line about her daughter being alive, the cinema absolutely erupted. From surprise, amazement, and joy. I still get chills thinking about it all these years later.
I can confirm this. I worked in a theater at the time, I screened it 2 days before release (no customer screening, literally just making sure we had lined up the film reels correctly). I knew it would create an amazing reaction from the crowd... so I snuck into several theaters to watch the reactions. Every. Last. One. Went. Nuts.
In “the whole bloody affair,” they remove this piece!! So when you see her daughter just appear on screen it’s like 100x crazier!!!
Tarantino and Thurman were discussing this story and the character of The Bride while they were making Pulp Fiction. They'd been conceiving it for some time.
I love how the "Death List Five" is a nod to "Fox Force Five"....
This comment was in the Pulp Fiction vid, I thought I was having Dejavu lol
@Pᴀᴡɴ S𝜏ᴀʀ𝕤 ✯🇫ᴀɴ so? that's how the world works lmaoooo
Regurgitating? I wrote the very comment he’s talking about. If I wrote it, where’s the lack of originality in stating a fact?
The animated Backstory for O-Ren Ishii is actually one of the best parts. Seeing how broken she is and what she had to whitness and do growing up... gives her so much more depth. Its technically just a view minutes of exposition... but in the best possible way!
Done by production IG. One of the most legendary animation studios in Japan.
Easily one of my favorite part throughout all his movies
😂 “whiteness” I think you meant “witness”. Honestly it made the comment funny af to me.
The most disappointing part is that many years ago Tarintino said he wanted to expand on the O-Ren back story. Like making the anime section around 30-45 minutes.
weeb!
It's funny that Jen mentioned how she thought this movie might be rated higher than an R rating because originally it was rated NC-17 because of the gore and violence. Tarantino was able to get it down to an R rating in America by making part of the Crazy 88 fight scene in black and white. Meanwhile in the Japanese cut of the film, that fight scene is in color the entire time.
The uncensored Japanese cut has only been released in Japan, on DVD. Unfortunately, the Japanese Blu-ray version is not uncensored.
Also, the black-and-white photography in the Crazy 88 fight scene is known as a homage to '70s and '80s U.S. television airings of kung fu movies. Black and white (as well as black and red) was used to conceal the shedding of blood from television censors. Originally, no black-and-white photographic effects were going to be used (and in the Japanese version, none are), but the MPAA demanded measures be taken to tone the scene down. Tarantino used the old trick for its intended purpose as well as an homage.
mmm. Yeah could for sure see it getting something like NC or X even if it wasn't kind of altered with smart film techniques like the black and white and the blue + black shading.
I hope someday Tarantino releases a cut of the both volumes together as one film, totally uncensored, the way he originally wanted to do it before he got talked into splitting it in half, and had to make changes for the censors.
@@james.b.mcgill Honestly, with today's AI stuff, somebody could probably take the DVD, get the color data, and apply it to full 1080p in a totally accurate way at full rez.
Tarantino just took his love of Anime, Samurai Films, and Kung-Fu Films, and combined them into his own masterpiece. I love it. It's so creative and so different.
Through out most of the movies Uma's character is only referred to as "The Bride", but if you pause the movie when the camera zooms in on her plane ticket, you can see her name long before its revealed.
yoooo spoiler alert.. jk
Never knew that, madness 🤯
It’s funny because the name doesn’t matter. In fact it may well be a fake name itself seeing as how she had it as an assassin! I never understood how the name being hidden worked for the movie! 🤷🏾♂️
@@B-Dad i think that would count as a macguffin
You can also just lipread her when she introduces herself to the little girl.
I actually like the o ren fight to be quick or short in a way because I feel like actual samurai swords fights would not last that long, so to me it felt realistic
Always gotta love "Kill Bill". Both volumes are amazing, and with the movie geekery in him, good ol' QT did a marvelous job of making a film that has a wonderful homage of samurai cinema, blaxploitation, Spaghetti Western and Japanese anime. And of course, the fight choreography is amazing, most especially to the final showdown at the House of Blue Leaves. Kudos to your reaction for the film!👏🏻💯
Still waiting for that "Kill - - - - - - - -" starring copperhead jr.
Don't forget the homage to one of my favorite directors Brian de Palma with the nurse Hannah scene. The music and split screen, classic de Palma!😮😊
Hey will you two be watching The Hateful Eight?? That's an absolute must watch when it comes to Tarantino! Amazing tension building movie, fantastic characters, and perfect for a character study!
I agree. I enjoy it more each time I watch it
Let me ask, should I watch the movie... or the four-episode serial format extended edition they have on Netflix? For some reason, I have a hard time watching movies these days. It's odd, I can't focus on a two-hour movie in one sitting - it takes me about four or five 15min-20min sittings over a few days to finish a movie. However, I can binge-watch an entire eight episode, hour-long per episode, television series in one sitting.
@@FLQueerLiberal1982 So, I've watched both, and basically the extended edition fills in a couple plot holes and is very nice. If it's easier for you to watch, do it that way. But, both are great.
@@professormetal4411 cool, thanks. That is the one I'll watch then.
dogshit movie tbh and one of tarantinos weakest
You can’t be done with Tarantino without doing Reservoir Dogs. I think it’s his best movie. Tons of great dialogue.
It’s his first movie with a low budget and is really fucking good one of his best for shore
WTF even is this universe anymore. I JUST had a dream about Reservoir Dogs last night, I swear to god! And I was ALSO praising the dialogue. I haven´t seen the movie for real in at least a year now. It´s on my hard drive.......
Kill Bill is still my favorite, but Reservoir Dogs is at least top 3.
bold statement.. not wrong, not close.. just bold
K Billy Supersounds of the 70's featuring Steelers Wheel.
She’ll love Vol. 2. Much more story! They balance each other well
One of my top 10 favorite movies and my #1 Quentin movies (vol 1 & 2)
Was waiting for this one! Hell yea love Kill Bill
Same!!
During the final fight with O-REN, when she says “you won’t last 5 minutes”, their fight ends at 4 minutes and 59 seconds
I really believe that Jen is going to love "Death Note", it is just a roller coaster of emotions.
P.S. Jen I really think you should grab a potato chip...... and EAT it!!! dun dun dun *"dramatic music intensifies"*
why do people recommend death note for people that are new to anime? it's pacing is trash it contains a handful of annoying anime tropes and it's 37 episodes. start with animated movies ffs, it's alot easier to get someone to sit down for 90min or so and the quality is generally better. ya'll forgetting how bland it is to watch kira scribble in a notebook from 5 different angles in one shot from an animation perspective.
@@panda123321123 Nope, the pacing of Death Note is the best one in all of the animes. There are so many story beats going on yet it is seamless and organic. I do agree though with annoying anime tropes and not recommending it for someone new to animes.
@@panda123321123 I think because Death Note takes place in a believable world that is super close to just modern day Earth. Instead of let's say Attack on Titan, while much better, is very very far leaning into deep anime territory and which takes pretty big leaps into the fantasy realm. But with Death Note, at the very least it can be a good intro as it has compelling characters, while toning down a lot of the more over the top eccentricities of anime. Like I would love to recommend something longer like Attack on Titan or Fullmetal Alchemist, but they are both quite long and I wouldn't want to get Jen into something she wouldn't like and have it be going for 60+ episodes or even close to 100. Things like Death Note is shorter but still pretty compelling.
Like I said, I don't consider it the best anime ever or anything, but it's a good starter IMO to see if she enjoys the anime style (as there are people that don't like the style choices a lot of anime use)
The reason why the sword that O-Ren uses doesn’t have a guard is because it’s a sword reserved for warriors who never need to defend. So it shows just how good she actually is. (Or was)
I don't know if that is an in-universe part of the background legend for O-Ren,, but that is not a real world thing.
Obviously there is no such thing as a warrior who does not need to defend. A sword without a Tsuba (hilt) was either meant for wall hanging or for simply transporting a blade to another craftsman to have a proper handle and hilt and other furniture fitted.
They pop up in Hollywood films cos rule of cool.
About The Bride being able to carry a sword on a plane post-9/11: In the Tarantino-verse, 9/11 likely never happened. In all of his movies there's a loose timeline of events similar to ours but everything is made to be more like a movie as well as hyper violent. Because of the results of Inglorious Basterds and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, one could surmise that if 9/11 were to happen in this universe, it would likely be thwarted in an extremely cinematic (and gory) way.
These Tarantino reactions have been such a refreshing change of pace. It would be really cool to see you guys react to some other auteur filmmakers in the future!
first QT film I ever saw, saw it in theaters, I had no idea what I was in for, I just heard it was good .. it Blew My Adolescent Mind.. in less than 2 hours I knew I wanted to be a filmmaker.. I feel like everything about film suddenly clicked into place.. plotting, character development, shot composition, editing.. OMG the editing .. the true magic of filmmaking lies in "the cut" .. it was a religious experience in a way ... will always be my favorite Tarantino film(s)..
Editing is definitely the unsung hero of filmmaking. That literally controls what we see.
The NC-17 rating is not for porn. There is no MPAA rating for porn.
"If on your journey, you should encounter God, God will but cut" - that gives me chills every time. I have no idea why, but in some formats that line is not subtitled at all, just the untranslated Japanese.
EDIT: Chiaki Kuriyama's Gogo was fantastic. One of my favorite moments is how she plays the tonal shift from the playful mischief to dripping menace when she says "you call that begging? you can beg better than that". And bravo to this movie for making meteor hammers cool.
Yeah thats a dope-ass line, reminds me of like an ultimate weapon in rpgs
I still have a little crush on Gogo Yubari.... I´m attracted to crazy people apparently (I mean shit, ask my ex gf lol), I can only hope she won´t kill me......
There is one unrated version, 4 hours without seams. It has “The Whole Bloody Affair” as the subtitle but it’s extremely difficult to get.
i knew this wouldn't be Jenn's favorite Tarantino film, but i did notice, she 'reacted' more to this film than his others.. she had very visceral reactions to nearly every scene's major beat, at least, certainly the twists and gotcha moments.. and i think that was what QT was going for at the end of the day, to craft a shocking and entertaining film above all else.. funny enough, she was the least reactionary to her favorite, Django.. just thought that was interesting and that i'd point that out.. cheers y'all
Yessss Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 are such wonderful films! And imo are a great example of what to shoot for when it comes to movies that empower women.
I think Kill Bill might be my favorite movie of all time... I could watch it infinitely.
So how come she didn't see all these movies, i feel like your wife existed before 2001, so why lie?
Kill Bill is supposed to be one movie, but the studio thought audiences wouldn't want to sit in a theater for 5 hours ,so they convinced tarantino to split the movie into two parts.
Good job on the studio, Tarantino is insane
Tons of interesting references throughout this one: Oren's character and design are inspired by the "Lady Snowblood" series of films. The yellow outfit that the Bride wears is inspired by Bruce Lee's outfit from "Game of Death." And the character of Hattori Hanzo is inspired by the Daimyo of the same name who ruled in the 1500s. He was not a swordsmith, but he was a very skilled tactician and combatant, and many legends surround him.
Love this movie and Tarantino, he has odd opinions about Bruce Lee though
The Crazy-88 are dressed like Kato as well
I'm willing to bet that Tarantino chose Sonny Chiba for Hattori Hanzo specifically because Sonny Chiba played Hattori Hanzo on t.v. I'd argue it's his most known role and makes sense because it was on during the era Tarantino most pulls from.
@@xerozeven Fun fact: Chiba's daughter is in the movie, playing the masked woman Crazy 88. She also helped teach the stage fighting for the actors in the movie.
@@brianheyn2833 Oh, that's dope! Never got around to looking into the creation of this one. Love stuff like that.
Taking Jenn into anime; I really think she would enjoy series such as Death Note, Code Geass, Parasyte: The Maxim, 86: Eighty-Six, Attack on Titan, Death Parade, and everything out of Studio Ghibli
I love that these 5 assassins are basically a hardcore version of "Fox Force Five" - the TV pilot Mia Wallace was a part of in Pulp Fiction where she was labeled "the most dangerous woman in the world with a knife".
No they are not.
1) Buck’s body was likely found, but that has nothing to do with his truck.
2) She’s an ASSASSIN so, yeah, I’m pretty positive she’d have clothes and money stashed various places for her quick get aways. 😅
Please make sure to show her “From Dusk Til Dawn”, “Reservoir Dogs” (technically takes place the same day as “Pulp Fiction” and John Travolta’s character’s brother is in this….pay close attention to ALL Tarantino films as they are ALL linked to each other. Some are movies/TV shows from the UNIVERSE of the characters and otherwise the stories are taking place in the same world and time frame.) and “Four Rooms”
Both movies were made as one big one but it would’ve ran for over 4 hours so Tarantino was kind of forced to split it into 2 volumes. Also, when O-Ren says “if you haven’t conserved your energy you might not last 5 minutes.” From when she takes her first step and the music starts, it takes exactly 4 minutes and 59 seconds until The Bride scalps her. If you guys want some anime movie recommendations I say check out Ghost in the Shell, and anything by Studio Ghibli (Spirited Away, My Neighbor Totoro, Ponyo, etc). Loving the Tarantino content and hope to see more down the line!
You should watch “Bad Boys” next 😜
14:17 ....."You're playing with the big boys now"... I don't think this is what Dreamworks had in mind when they made The Prince of Egypt....
Anime you say? ATTACK ON TITAN.
Holden, it's the perfect amount of dark for Jen, it's got great characters and mystery, as well as has some very interesting religious themes that I think you would find interesting. Keep it in mind for when anime becomes a relevant topic for the channel :)
EDIT: just unpaused the video and saw the mention of Death Note. Great idea! Also fits into the category very well.
When it comes to anime I would recommend Akira (1988) and Ghost In The Shell (1996) as two absolute classic sci-fi/action movies. And for a completely different pace and genre Wolf Children (2012) and Your Name (2016). I would also recommend Princess Mononoke (1997) but that is Studio Ghibli and Disney can be very possessive about that.
If you need some Anime recommendations i believe you'll enjoy Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, One Punch Man, Bleach, Dragon ball, Dragon ball z and Super, Naruto, One Piece, JO JO'S Bizarre Adventure, Goblin Slayer and Demon Slayer. Just to name a few.
The only reason the Bride v. Crazy 88 fight is in black and white is because that was the only way it could stay as an R rating. The releases outside the US region has that fight in color. As for the Anime movies y'all should watch, go with Akria, Ninja Scroll & Ghost in the Shell.
I know that I’m in the minority, but Kill Bill Vol. 1 & 2 are the ONLY Quentin Tarantino movies that I enjoy (unless we’re counting Robert Rodriguez movies that he was featured in.) I find this one to be fun. I’ve seen Reservoir Dogs, Pulp Fiction (back when it was still in theaters), Jackie Brown and Django Unchained and for a plenty of reasons I don’t like them and fail to see the so called “genius “ that is Tarantino.
My only problem I have with either Kill Bill movie is that Vivica and Lucy get killed first. Boo.
Also kinda shocked to see how much Jenn was enjoying it. Cool!
NC-17 is not for porn. It replaced the X rating specifically in order to avoid confusion because porn was using the X rating without permission. In practice the NC-17 rating is basically never used because any movie that is severe enough to receive the rating generally edits the content down to an R rating to be financially viable. Many of the biggest theater chains refuse to screen NC-17 movies. Porn is basically always unrated; there would be no point in getting a rating.
If Jen wants to watch a really dark, but very good animation. I recommend Castlevania. It’s an amazing show. Easily one of my favorites on Netflix.
I could be wrong here, please correct me, but the guy who kills O-Ren's Father in the Anime Part of the story was Bill himself from what I've heard. No idea if that's legit but if true its ironic O-Ren went on to work for the guy who assassinated her Father even if he was contracted and ordered to.
I definitely recommend Reservoir Dogs!! Crime Thriller masterpiece!!
I like how Jen asks if there is any rating after R and Holden said NC-17, but mostly for porn, when literally the reason it was black and white during that question was so Tarantino could avoid an NC-17 rating for violence.
All of Tarantino's movies are well worth watching. Fantastic dialog, fantastic soundtracks, lots of fun references and homages to older movies (which is really cool for someone my age).
Holden can you not act like you haven't seen the movie before, your responses feel really forced and lame, even if it's just to be supportive with your wife on the first watch. Just add interesting commentary, or something useful. Not just fake gasps.
Please alternate "Clone Wars" reactions with movies/shows. I've been waiting to see more of Jen's reactions to the episodes (putting her reactions to the series behind a paywall is metaphorically criminal). Also, I'd recommend seeing "Death Proof".
This reaction to this masterpiece is kind boring and I fell like they didn't appreciate it much skipped alot of good parts or just overlooked them🤷🏽♂️
I first watched this movie as 12yo 😬 and it's still my favorite movie from then until now
If you're going to get into anime, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood is not only my favorite anime, it's one of my favorite shows period.
It’s funny that you brought up the rating system because the reason it cuts to black and white during the bloodiest sequence was to avoid getting an NC-17 rating.
You gotta do Reservoir Dogs, Jackie Brown and Once Upon A Time in Hollywood.
Not sure if this is 100 percent true but apparently they had to make that black and white section like that because the original footage with all the blood would’ve ruined the ratings for gore or something
*Please React Song*
👇
*(DHOOM AGAIN)*
*PLEASE DON'T IGNORE THE REQUEST* 🙏
Please, get Jen into anime. Death note is a good place to start since it's a great show, and relatively short. Attack on titan is decent as well starting point for people who dislike/are not interested in anime. But either of these shows sets the bar pretty damn high. Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood is still my favourite. Love the channel. 🔥
After your done with Vol 2 you guys should do Reservoir Dogs and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
I know it's not most people's favorite, but i hope you guys do the Hateful 8. It is my favorite of all his films
It’s amazing how Quentin shows you the tone then reactors overthink it. No disrespect. Only the first time you’ve seen it and that’s understandable. True art takes time to understand or appreciate
would be awesome to see more anime reactions on the channel with Jen - some movies I nominate are Perfect Blue (dark, psychological thriller) and Spirited Away - also, the series Attack on Titan and One Punch Man
Starship Trooper in the 90 was PG-13, so Kill bill R....
We need a video where Jen picks the movie! My Husband watches … for the first time!
Definitely should watch One Upon a Time in Hollywood
Jen really like the animated segment, maybe you should show her some anime classics like Akira or Berserk.
If she likes dark, i really recommend the 90s Berserk anime. Reading the manga would be better to have the continuation of the story, but that’s a good show to start the story and if you guys wish to read it-you guys can.
I prefer the action of Vol 1, but I prefer the story and emotional moments of Vol 2.
Death Note is good, but I really think Jen will love Vinland Saga.
SHOW HER ‘AKIRA’!!!
16:17 the irony of your statement here is that the scene transferred to black and white because there's just too much blood. So much so that without the filter the film would've HAD to be rated NC-17. But Tarantino managed to make it transition smoothly and convey to most that it was an artistic choice. It honestly does make the scene better, somehow.
Oh man, so excited for this. I am interested to see how Jenn reacts to the tonal shift in Part 2. I feel like Part 2 is vastly superior with some iconic moments.
Uma was in Pulp Fiction too, I don't remember if you said that or not♥
Yes Jen! 🙌🏾 The anime scene was absolutely *chef's kiss* one of my favorites. Crazy how i consumed all this violence as a kid 😅🤣
Rest In Peace Sonny Chiba! True Legend.
Kill Bill vol.3 starring Zöe Kravitz👊🏽 ⚔️
You guys need to go full Tarantino and do From Dusk till Dawn!
I remember this movie coming out at the height of Imax fever back in the day, and I saw it probably as high as I have ever seen a movie. It blew my freaking mind. I vividly remember having a hard time handling the anime section, at first I thought I was seeing it in anime vs it being shot in anime lol.
Lol..
@@missioncodez maybe it was the one that's part 1 and 2 put together I remember that coming out later but never saw it lol
@@missioncodez Did I say it was in Imax, keyboard warrior?
There is in fact an unrated version of Kill Bill. It's called Kill Bill: The Whole Bloody Affair. Unfortunately, it's not on home video or streaming, and has only been screened a handful of times. I hope to see it on the big screen someday. As far as I know, Quentin owns the only print of the unrated cut of the film.
Ohhhhhhhh!!! You don’t know how long I’ve waited for this
Loved Jens reaction in this one. she looked SHOOK haha
you should stop talking a bit, you're telling the story before she sees it
"This is so bloody. This is great!" 😂😂
The first time I watched Kill Bill was a 4-hour version called “The Whole Bloody Affair,” which combines Volumes 1 & 2. In addition to some cool small changes, Tarantino removed one significant piece: when Bill reveals that Beatrix’s daughter is alive at the end of Vol. 1. So if you can imagine, I didn’t know her daughter was alive until she literally appeared on screen! I completely lost it. One of the most immersive experiences I’ve ever had with a film character. Bravo QT
The sound effects always get me everytime I watch this.
Of all of Tarantino's films, this are Part 2 are my favorites. This captures the feel of so many 70s action movies and I love a good sword fighting sequence.
Can’t wait for Jen to eventually watch Attack on Titan whenever that’s going to be, she’s going to love how dark that gets
Would really like to see you try anime. Full metal alchemist brotherhood, death note and attack on titan would all be great
All fantastic choices. Id like to put my vote in for Black Clover and Fairy Tail as well.
Y'all have to do Once Upon a time in Hollywood
As a first Anime she should watch Attack on titan
a few things to answer some of y’all questions; 1: the viewer rating after R is MA for (Mature); 2: this Kill Bill was originally suppose to be one movie but the film producers said ppl wouldn’t sit in theaters for a 4 hr movie, they wanted Tarantino to cut about 90 minutes of the movie but he didn’t want to cut anything out so they compromised at splitting it into 2 parts; 3: y’all are wondering how she’s affording plane tickets and motorcycles, what you have to remember is that she use to be the most deadly assassin in the world and all assassins stash money away just incase they need to disappear, she probably had millions stashed away
Isn’t that really only for tv shows though?
@@jerrygodeep4787 it can be for movies also, but it’s rare cause what the movie would have to contain wouldn’t really do well at the box office so they normally go straight to dvd or streaming platform now
Watch kick ass 2010 and pacific rim
The Jenguin returns!!🥰🥰🥰🥰
Death Note would be perfect to watch on the channel
Once Upon a time in Hollywood
My favorite Tarantino film is "Four Rooms" staring Tim Roth. I also love the fact that the box cereal Vernetta's gun was in was called Kaboom.
Four rooms isn't technically a Tarantino movie. He was one of 4 directors that collaborated in the movie
WATCH BLACK LAGOON DUB! 💙
have you react or seen Doctor morbius

Personally I would love to see you guys watch death note! By far my favourite anime and would be so good to see your guys reaction to the series!
