I didn't put any spikes inside. I don't have spikes on the inside of the carbon marine either. Occasionally the line will knot up, but not frequently enough that it bothers me.
@@TheSkiffWanderer I have to agree with you. I built one last week and have been putting it through the ringer on some of the lakes around me, I haven't had many issues with knotting without the spikes

Great video, how much does the the rubber basket base weigh? Is it enough to keep it on the deck in windier conditions?
The whole thing weighs 5 lbs. I've got a buddy who has used one in real windy conditions with no problems.
