My first reaction was WOW!!! - that's the same kit that I assembled ...But that sure don't look like the same car!".
My daughter gave me this kit for my birthday years ago when I had started collecting a few 1:18 scale diecast cars. I hadn't built a model since I was a kid, and even then I didn't build any masterpieces. But I decided to give it my best shot anyways. I thought I was doing ok until the next step was painting the body. I wanted to do a really good job to show my daughter that I appreciated the model, and I let myself get intimidated by fear of failure, so I kinda put it on a back burner "temporarily".
Well, about 15 years and 2 moves later, I'm selling my diecast collection and the box with the partially assembled Cobra surfaced. This time I figgered that just giving up and never assembling it was WAY worse than messing up, so I decided to finally finish it, and whaddya know, the paint was still good (sapphire blue metalflake) even after all those years! So I watched a couple of videos on painting and jury rigged a temporary paint booth in my garage and went for it. The first coat was pretty good but I kinda messed up a bit on the second coat. Oh well. I decided I could live with it and carried on - and now I'm actually pretty happy with the result. There is absolutely no comparison with the car in this video, of course, but I won't be ashamed to show it to friends.
I'll even show them this video so they can see what a serious (maybe even seriously genius) model builder can do. Congratulations! You have created a masterpiece!

Really sweet build! I have 3 or 4 of this kit in my stash. Originally an MPC kit. After I build one I plan on kit bashing the others into some of my other 1/16 builds.

I've had three of these in my life. If the paint on mine looks half as good as yours I'll be very happy! What brand of paint did you use for the clear coat? I've used lacquer in the past but it cracks when exposed to heat and cold extremes. I need something that can be wet-sanded easily without burning through the paint. Thank you for posting this.

It's pronounced LAY - MON. They don't pronounce the S as in Paris is silent too! I had to come back and look at this again. I just need to figure out exactly what colour the car that I have is supposed to be since they use TWO different colours for the same car but at different times. I love the Le Mans blue but I think that mine is a '66 and was painted in Guardsman blue which is darker and more accurate I'm guessing.

Beautiful build ! Just starting one today. What paint did you use for the engine block? This is my first Ford build in a long line of Ferraris and Chevys. Is the engine block just a plain Tamiya blue?

I remember I mixed up my own Ford Blue with Testors enamel at the time.
