- Ahoy Fisho's, This week I head out chasing Gold Coast Spottie Mackerel on Palm Beach Reef with mates Jason and James. After a bit of a slow start the fish came on the bite and it was absolute chaos on the boat. Double and triple hook ups all morning! We caught the fish on a combination of techniques including spinning lures and floating baits and ended up with plenty of fish for the table.

You need to use like shore jig things with hooks at the back and assist hooks at the front so when they swipe you hook up
Yeah the only problem with the top assist is getting more bite off’s. Could work on wire though 👍

That's why we embrace the wire down here mateeeeeee hahaha in the land of piranha it is absolutely necessary. Amazing session out there, so cool to see so much fishing just there next to the city

Mackerel sometimes comes all the way up to Vancouver Canada shorelines during El Nino... They are considered invasive fish.... No limit catching them as they stay on top of the Salmon... Vancouverites hates them but I find them fun to catch.

Gotta love those nitro rods. Damn near unbreakable. I even closed my magnumbutt in a car door and still going strong 8 years later.
Yeah they used to be my favourite rod back in the day. They were before their time for sure!
Great vid Sammy really enjoyed it👍 Needed it as was bit down as terminally cracked the hull in some big weather last wkend so am screwed for fishing now as just put a new outboard on it couple months back so nothing left in the budget for a new hull👎

You try the straw thing . Also when the mackerel are schooled up tight i throw a bubble rig with either a drinking straw or silver spoon bubble sounds like fish busting the top

I fish the same way mate but the Interesting thing to me is then most of you righties change back the other way for baitcasters and overhead gear, Im left hand dominant so all the gear thats marketed for right handed people actually suites me perfect
With the amount of lure that are bitten off, how come you don't use wire trace as a leader ?
I personally think you get more bites without the wire. Just have to be willing to lose a lure or two 👍👍
Would love to see a side-by-side comparison of mono leader v single strand and see how much difference it makes. Would make an interesting experiment
