**UPDATE** Looks like Costco has a 32GB option and it seems like they are the only ones with that. My review unit does have 32GB RAM for those wondering. If you buy from Asus website it has 16GB RAM. Here is the link to Costco (non-affiliated): bit.ly/3VXvKJh
On the ASUS Canada website there is an option for a 32GB config.
yeah Asus seems to have a very strange habit of offering different configurations in different countries, and within certain countries certain retailers get their own versions that don't exist anywhere else. I've been following the 2024 G16, and Asus offers five variants of it in Canada:
a) 4060, Ultra 7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, White
b) 4060, Ultra 9, 16GB RAM, 1TB SSD, Grey
c) 4070, Ultra 9, 16GB, 1TB SSD, Grey
d) 4080, Ultra 9, 32GB, 2TB, Grey
e) 4090, Ultra 9, 32GB, 2TB, Grey.
All retailers have these models, except Best Buy. BB has three slightly different ones
a) 4060, Ultra 7, 16GB RAM, 512GB SSD, *but in Grey*
b) 4060, Ultra 9, *32GB,* 1TB SSD, Grey
c) 4070, Ultra 9, *32GB,* 1TB SSD, Grey
... and in July they're coming out with a variant that has a new AMD CPU, but who knows if it'll actually be purchasable here. half the variants they list on their site aren't actually available to buy (other than the ones listed above) lol
is 16gb bad ?
@@shadyhajjeh-ro3gn bad, not necessarily, but since you can't upgrade the RAM I'd get 32gb just to be on the safe side, depending on what kinds of workloads you do.
@@shadyhajjeh-ro3gn no
I honestly don't know how you did all of these reviews. My favorite.
Magic. He’s the David Copperfield of laptops.
This clears things up a bit. The initial impressions of the X Elite came from the Vivobook and so I came away unimpressed with the battery life. 13:25 shows that this is a Vivobook problem and that other laptops with the X Elite do much better.
I just got my yoga slim 7x. Loving it so far. My setup was a bit easier than yours but I did have the lagging issues prior to updating like you did in your stream. After updating, everything was fine. I got 512gb with 32gbs of ram for my use cases.
I am considering Lenovo too. But, I was wondering why is Lenovo using Bluetooth 5.3, when everyone else is using Bluetooth 5.4. This still means, manufacturers can change things a little if they want, meaning the end user needs to compare everything.
Hi Andrew! I love your videos and am a huge fan of your presentation method. Can you do a review on the new HP Pavilion Plus 16-ab1000na Laptop - Core™ Ultra
The surface battery efficiently is amazing
I dig the look!
This went for $1,150 preorder (VAT 0%) in ASUS shop with 1 TB / 32 GB in Finland. Love it.
FYI: Alex Ziskind has good video for SW development setup on X Elite (MSFT Surface). Will follow that to the tee (though I have already Win 11 Pro installed, and I may skip Mini Conda).
I appreciate you putting M3 Max in cinebench scores but it would have been better if you also put M3 also.
I am liking you Andrew 👍
Hope you get your hands on the ProArt PZ13. If only it came with a 32gb config 😢 well, for now is too early to tell though. Great video.🎉
Coming soon
I remember my first laptop was an Asus. The quality was poor now I'm really happy to see this high quality metal one. Pretty powerful actually.
Don't worry. The quality control and customer support is still quite poor so you'll feel the nostalgia.
Is the audio of the camera test from the laptop mics? Wow they sound so nice
the surface line is a good indication to show the impact of OLED on the battery life, with similarly sized batteries the laptop with the IPS display is much better. I'm really looking forward to the review on the Acer laptop since it has an IPS display and a 75 Whr battery
I'm still waiting for this kind of detailed video but today i have one request can you make one video for turn on and off duration?
Liked as usual.
An elite reviewer!
Ahh thanks!
Aesthetically it looks cheap or busy to me, both the materials and labeling all over it, near the ports and on the front with the Harmon Kardon & Dolby labelling. I much prefer the minimalist finish you see on the Surface. The packaging is poor IMO, but that's just a nice to have thing, although this shouldn't be discounted as it makes a big impact to our impression of products. Great review Andrew!
I like the 16:9 and would prefer it over the others. I DO NOT like the silver palmrest and I especially DO NOT like the silver keycaps. I don't have the best vision and I need more contrast there.
David, would you recommend this machine for someone who wants it for work and study on programming on full stack web development?
Looks like a nice laptop, just not a fan of that condensed numpad, feel like it would have been better without it.
Nice pc. Camera and mics are good. Speakers sounded okay. Numpad in this pc very poorly designed. Keys are too small and there is no "enter" or "plus" key to the right of the numbers. Wasted space. Numpad needs to be redesigned or removed. Port selection is good although they should have swapped on of the USB A and USB C ports on each side. As you say this right now is a good second pc. Until drivers and software compatability issues are resolved this should not be your main pc at this time. Another great quality review.
COMINGGG UPPP 😎
Hello Andrew, I love your videos. I watch all of them. I am thinking of butying new laptop. My budget is 1000-1100 us dollars. I am thinking of buying Lenovo Yoga Pro 7 Amd ryzen version, but I coudnt see any reviews for it on your channel. Please make a video on that on that laptop. Thanks
Out of all of the Snapdragon X Elite laptops you have reviewed recently, what would be your favorite? Considering Battery Life, Portability and Screen Size (Bigger being better)
Andrew, could you please add one technical fiature to your reviews - does ssd upgradable slot (or 2 of them on some models) allow double sided ssd (like my dell 9710) or only single sided like galaxy book 3 pro?
Snapdragon X Elite 🔋🎉🎉
The biggest issue I see is the extreme difference in performance between on battery and plugged in. Perhaps this is something that can be fixed with software in the near future.
I'm mostly liking what this laptop has to offer, but I'm not an early adopter and it seems still rather steep for what, due to the ARM architecture, still seems like a mostly Internet browsing+Microsoft Office machine, though I certainly like what it could be offering for photography, especially with the display they went with, including the 16:9 aspect ratio that I prefer. That being said, I'm still baffled at there being no full-size SD card readers, if for some reason or another it's not possible to have one then I'd hope that manufacturers would stop including microSD card readers as a false substitute and rather go with a third USB-C port for the dongle I'll inevitably need.
Despite that, definitely something to watch, though I'd hope for less AI crap as well. Also, I might have missed this, but did you say if the SSD was user-upgradable?
Andrew would you say the general concesus is that the Lenovo option provided a better laptop over this? Seems everyone likes that one
I do like Lenovo a lot
The Lenovo offers a much better build quality for the same amount of money as the Asus
Why is the 70whr Lenovo lasting less than the Surface laptop? What power profiles did you use? You should redo the test making sure all of them are in the same power profile. A timelapse would be cool.
I’d guess it’s probably because of the oled display on the Lenovo. Big battery drain, but worth it in my opinion.
Snapdragon X Elite 👑👑🔋🔋
Great video as always, but do you know which laptop review I'm waiting for? :D
Which one?
@@andrewmarcdavid Dell Precision :)
Costco has 32GB ram version for same price.
Waiting for Acer Swift 14 AI
For $1300 the Asus Vivobook S15 seems to be a pretty good laptop. Yes the numpad is a little condensed and may throw off some people but it's not a dealbreaker. It's not a perfect laptop but it does have a lot going for it. The fact that over a year ago you couldn't find a laptop that had 18+ hours of battery life is a huge upgrade! Overall, it's a fairly decent laptop that doesn't have all the bells and whistles but should make a lot of consumers happy with it. Thank you Andrew for your brilliant review!! 👍😁
Yeah numpad is condensed, they should have put it in touchpad as they do in some other high end models. That should hva efreed some space
I bought one of these and then returned it after using it for a few hours. After using MacBooks the following things irked me - plasticy awkward track pad, hard to see keyboard, fan noise and worst of all having hot air vented onto my lap. Beautiful screen though
Yes me too, returned. Keyboard is very disappointing.
If you’re looking for a MacBook replacement, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7x is probably the better option. Much better build quality for the same price
Hi Andrew! I would highly appreciate if you could suggest a laptop that has these features I need.
Oled. 15 inch display
2 usb c thunderbolts
Usb a
Looong battery life
No heating issues
Great connectivity wifi /Bluetooth
Touch screen if possible
P.S. I am nowhere near great with laptops and their specific features, but has found your channel very helpful. Short concise n easy to understand 😊
Oled displays and long battery life usually don’t come within the same package. I’d recommend just going for a MacBook 15 inch
So your saying one can’t upgrade the ram or add in another stick? Also weird that Costco offers a 32 gb but everywhere else is only 16. Screen display seems amazing. Which one would be the better productive model for photo editing, this Asus or the surface laptop 15 inch ?
Yes, I jus realized that Costco does have a 32GB option. My review unit also has 32GB.
you can't upgrade ram because it's on SOC
wifi/bt soldered into the motherboard :(((( i will wait for x elite that give me the choice to replace or upgrade, also privacy concerning imo
Battery Life is dissapointing...That's literally one of the few reasons these Snapdragon laptops can even be considered for purchase....
I would say it’s good in real world use. The leader so far is the Surface Laptop 7
Well on it's own SD elite is faster than everything offered from Intel and amd right now. But it's arm and the GPU suck azz.
We need to wait for zen 5 and Lunar lake to have something that's close or better.
Apple is 6 years ahead from the competition
@@dantebg1006 years ahead? Yeah right! I mean this is the first big push from Qualcomm and look how well they have done.
It goes to show there are a lot more to optimizing battery life for laptops than just slapping an efficient arm processor and call it a day. So far only the Microsoft surface arm laptop that blew me away in term of battery life, and it shows Microsoft prowess in term of optimizing battery life. HP should have fare well, but their omnibook may have an OLED display that cause lower battery life.
@@dantebg100for such task we have macs, why would anyone for windows
it looks nice , this laptop without touch screen?
@@samersabah5133 no touchscreen
A bit surprised by the difference in battery life with all those snapdragon laptops.
It is because this laptop has 3 cell battery other has 4 cell i think
Zenbook 14 intel OLED got 14 hours of battery life in 4K youtube video playback in "Hardware Canucks" video.
Do you think the book 4 edge is better than the book 4 ultra in gaming ?
No
why does the vivobook beat the surface 7 in multicore by almost x2?
Probably due to the thermal solution used
Those hinges look like they will fall apart after a year
Not seeing how performance will get much better for x86. ARM and x86 are like opposing football teams. There is minimal ceiling with optimizing the translation layer for x86. The fan and heat are obvious when running x86 apps- especially for GPU operations and throttles quickly. People will probably be disappointed until there are faster ARM chips with more robust GPUs. Or just don't run x86 centric apps.
Why is the Surface 7 so far ahead in single core and so far behind in multi core ?
I think the Asus allows the chip to go up to 45W whereas the other laptops cap and some much lower level. This is probably also why the Asus is the only one to come with a 90W power brick. The SL7 comes with a 39W brick.
no one is talking about video editing and animation of premiere pro and after effects
That is because it's not working
@@andrewmarcdavid means?🤔🤔
Andrew when taking his family out to dinner at a nice Italian restaurent:
Waiter: "Are you ready to order, sir?"
Andrew: "Now, before we get to the food itself I just wanna let everyone know in the interest of transparency and full disclosure: I'm not being paid by the Italian government, I'm not being sponsored by the Italian government. All the opinions you are about to hear are my own, the Italian government is not getting copy approval. That means they're seeing this food for the first time, just like you. Now this food is provided by the Italian cuisine and once this dinner is done, I'll be sending it back."
Waiter: "... I'll start you off with some garlic bread, then."
@Jayguevara1982 I like that lol 😆
@@andrewmarcdavid Jokes aside, I appreciate your disclaimers. More creators should do that!
I really want to switch to new windows laptops but none of them check all marks for me unfortunately.
Bring on the AMD!!!!!!
Not sure who on his right mind would consider these WIP laptops even at half the price. I got a 7840u thinkpad t14 8 months ago for $800 that is much MUCH better than this. I think it needs 2 more generations to catch up with last generation stuff.
I hope to get the Thinkpad T14 in for reivew
Still waiting for a windows tablet with pen support running on sd x elite 🥲
