I'm convinced the 5.0 gives owners the best balance of abilities. Smooth as silk idle. Ready to roar if I want to hit the loud pedal. Its happy to tow my wheeling truck which puts me at 12200lbs GCWR. When not towing I get 21-22 on the highway, best ever was 24.9 on a single day 952 mile interstate run.
I've got the 36 gal tank in my 18 5.0, made it from the twin cities to Kenosha and back on a tank and some change. I was severely impressed. 700+ miles on a tank up and down those hills going through WI.
Agreed 100% brother, I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 161,000 miles on it and still going strong and it's a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla Exhaust as well.😊
My 2013 F150 with the 5.0 engine is the same. I bought it with 98,000 miles in February 2021 and now I have 145,000 miles. No issues. Drives great and around 19-20 mpg on the highway.
I just the other day was going to a Cumberland Farms convenience store, and there was a store employee servicing trash cans outside. As I walked by, I said, I appreciate all you do for us. I do this everyday, mostly to quick service people. It only takes a few kind words to make them feel respected.
If I upgrade later ill look for that model but in the FX4. I built my 04 FX4 with the 5.4 3 valve and upgraded the problem parts and she has been running strong for 5 years now. Ford is the best work truck in my opinion, always has been. Take care of your truck and it will last a long time.

Reset the BMS using the 5 pulls on the turn signal lever + 3 pushes on the brake pedal. Thanks FBM for all the knowledge. Hope Moose keeps running strong for ya.

It was definitely the most reliable truck I have had. I had a 2017 5.0 super crew 4x4 I bought new. I traded it in in 2021 with 163,000 miles. Followed the Ford Owners Manual service recommendations. Replaced the #8 coil pack at 120,000ish. Only thing I ever done to it. I put brakes on it at 150,000 for the first time and they had 30 percent life or so left. Amazing truck, I have a 2021 3.5 ecoboost now, 47k problem free miles but I miss the 6R80!

Ford Boss if the world had more people like you brother it would be a much much better place thanks for all you do i have learned so much from you i even switched my 2005 toyota Corolla with a little over 400k on it to Valvalone Premium high mileage full synthetic on the 5th oil change with it has done great it has been changed religiously every 3k since brand new i used Valvaline maxlife synthetic blend all the way until a year ago i used to have to add a quart about 1600 miles with the synthetic blend now it goes to the 3k and is right on the add mark so basically doubled the mileage before using a quart
Great video! I absolutely agree with you on this truck. Mine appears to be outfit exactly like yours. 2016, Coyote, LWB like yours and has the 3.73 elec locking rear. Found it in May with 73k on it, nearly pristine condition. I've had MANY F150's from 1987 to the present. Last one was a '14 with the 3.5 ecoboost. I liked it but, it put 176k on it, and the issues were adding up. I ditched it before it cost me dearly, and wanted to get away from the turbo and back to naturally aspirated. SO GLAD I did!!! I do a fair amount of medium duty towing, and the 5.0 is more economical that the 3.5 Eco. Highway mileage empty with cruise at 65MPH, I' m getting 22-23 MPG which blows my mind. A recent trip towing a friend's broken down car from NH back to VT (through the mountains with A/C on, 323 miles) yielded 17.4 MPG. Sure hope this one lasts a LONG time. Everything I need, nothing I don't. AND the aluminum body works fantastic as a counterpoint for my ham radio antennas! Great vid....many happy miles to you!
I bought a 2017 F150 XLT Sport, 5.0l 6r80 and love it. No major issues other than a a corroded leaking trans cooler line when I first bought it. I was told the 17 coyotes were the last 5.0l with sleeved cylinders and they didn't fix it til 21. I do love mine but I just wish min was a crew cab and a 6.5ft bed instead of a supercab with 6.5ft bed.
Great video brother and gotta love the 5.0L Coyote V8 in it, I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 161,000 miles on it and still going strong and it's a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla Exhaust as well.
I bought a 2015 5.0 SCAB lariat FX4 new in March 2016. I was a litle concerned buying the first year of the new gen. Been a great truck. 64k miles, nearly half towing. I had the rear slider seal leak , just noticed a small leak at the half shalf inner seal. Other than that no issues. Love the growl and power of the 5.0! Could't agree more.
My '93 Ranger with the 3.0 and the Mazda manual 5 speed was my favorite truck ever. That truck punched waaaaay further above its weight class and was fantastic. Almost 280,000 miles when we sold it and I got it with 30,000miles. Your truck is my next best ideal truck if I ever needed one again. The Coyote can go toe to toe with a first gen LS any day
Definitely a solid truck ,and a great combination for reliability performance and ease of maintenance.I really like the 6.5 ft bed w the crew cab. The older GMs were great (99-02) were the best ,but there older and worn out for the most part now, they can’t match the capabilities of the F150. Nice ending to the video, spread the love and good will.👍 Have a great day Rich.
My old man had a 2017 with a 5.0. He loved it. Never a problem. One day some jag decides not to use a turn signal & just like that the truck was totaled. Although I think it could’ve been fixed, maybe parts were backordered. Ended up with a 2019 pure Michigan package & a 2.7 eco.
My very best truck was a 1997 F150, 3 door, 4X4, 4.6Triton. It was amazing on gas and ran beautiful for the 12 years I owned it and it had 350K with only yearly sparkplug changes (yes regular maintenance and oil changes too, lol). I really hated to see it go.
Same here '97 SC 8" 4.6 2wd. Sold it with 330,000 miles. Ball joints, u-joints, alternator (brushes wore out), cleaned EGR, 8.8" bearings, and basic maint. Though not too bad, I sold because of rust.
Always been a Ford fan. Was disappointed when I learned the new 5.0 had a belt driven oil pump and all the other issues. Made me look to the dark side for a brand new truck. Now my 2007 F150 is given me issues and the price of a new truck is hilarious. My wife bless her heart 32 years we have been together my truck has to go up till 1 month ago has been amazing never left me stranded have overserviced it and it showed that reliability. Now one thing after another one step forward two steps back can fix it for the 3rd time but another issue will ensue. The money pit is getting bigger with no end in sight. Pulled the trigger at my wifes request its a logical decision get a used bullet proof 2017 5.0 F150 the last built Ford tough a no brainer. 170 metric k XLT loaded with the FX4 package in black replacing my 07 FX4 in oxford white. Oh boy black high maintenance but blows away a white truck when shined up like my 1985 Mustang GT also black. Noticed on the road test a way smoother ride spring rates maybe lighter due to 700 pounds less. I feel amazing still driving a Ford dodged a bullet a pun HA HA. Bless you buddy keep up the awesome work.
I have a 2017 xl extended cab (don't lol) with the n/a 3.5, 4x4. Friends made fun of me. We go hunting etc. Mine goes where they go. Some even got stuck. I pulled them out! I don't tow, or haul alot of crap. It's never given me an issue! I did replace the factory junk tires with general grabber atx. An put bilstiens on it. (not leveled). An the rear fenderwells from from Ford. (you dont have to drill holes). Like your channel/content. Peace
I have a 2016 ecoboost and it has been amazing. Just about to roll 80k miles. I am going to have to replace the passenger front hub though. Other than that, it's been a joy. I maintain everything on it. Very easy and satisfying 😊
My 2017 is my baby. 57,000 miles and I just changed all my fluids including both diffs and the often forgotten transfer case. When the weather gets warm my next project is to flush the coolant system.
I've been looking for this truck in FL for several months. Every single one is the bathtub bed. Have not found a single one with the 6 1/2 bed that has less than 200k and under 30k. Insane.
Hey Rich my 2016 XLT FX4 5.0 with 3.73 is coming up on 50,000 and runs just like the day I bought it new ! I put an S&B intake and full 3 in exhaust . Boy does it go !….
Love that color buddy. I’ve found a 2017 xlt with XTR package. 5.0 6.5’ bed 3,73 gears 36 gallon tank and tow mirrors. All the right options. It’s lightening blue. I’m more of a brown or grey darker colors kinda guy but I do like the blue. It looks good. Miles are good too has 82k on it. One owner. I’m thinking about getting out of this 2019 5.0 if at all possible.
my brother really enjoys his 2021 ford F150. he got it with only 9,000 miles on it. He's had no issues with it. (knock on wood) He keeps on top of his maintenance on it
I have a 2016 XLT with the 3.5 ecoboost.- my current issue is the panoroof is broken. Need to replace the guides/tracks & hope it works. I don't want to replace the entire assembly.
I have a 2015 with the 3.5. I really like the way it runs. I do a lot of short trip hilly driving . I use the tow/haul mode just to let it breathe faster. Its getting to45K (used truck) I need to get some services done. Trust in local dealers is shaky at best. I trust independent shops more.
I appreciate your video. I have had GMC trucks for about 20 years now and I may try a used FORD this time. I am getting tired of fighting with the rust on the metal bodies. Do you suggest buying one with the 5.0 over the 3.5 and the 2.7?
@@FordBossMe Thank you for taking the time to answer my question. I’ve been a Toyota owner for decades and I’m thinking down the road of looking for a 2017 F150 with the V8.
Yes sir…. I have a 2016 5.0/6 speed since new. OCI’s @5k full syn, fram ultra. Diffs, transmission/transfer case every 60k, plugs every 75k. Wash pcv valve and replace air cleaner as needed. Just did a coolant flush@150k and switched it over to the new yellow poat. I switched from 5w-20 to 5w-30 @100k. I also run seafoam in my oil every 30k or so for maybe 50-75 miles before dropping the oil. There is a notable difference by looking in the fill cap. Truck is current @160k. Not 1 single leak/weep anywhere. Runs fantastic and has maintained its mileage. I have replaced both front wheel bearings and the APIM module…..wheel bearing are expected tho. Rich, I would like to hear your opinion on my switching to 5w-30 @ 100k and running seafoam every 30k or so right before an oil change.
2013 F150 STX V8 Coyote and 6 speed trans. No issues except rusting now. When it's time I so hope to find a 2013-2017 in good condition available with same engine and trans.
I just picked up a 2017 f150 Lariat 4x4 with 81k miles. And yes it’s the 5.0 6sp transmission because of your opinion but not just any opinion. It’s an opinion of a ford master tech.lol So thank you for your wisdom. I’m coming from a 2001 limited Toyota tundra access cab 4x2. I’m more excited to have my kids in there just soo they can have more space and not with my tools.lol
I love my 2017 xlt I bought new. Run premium fuel since day one and it has been such a great truck. I have owned high end cars (my wife’s choices Escalades, bmw, etc) but this does f150 4x4 is a dream to drive. 123k and purrs like a kitten. Dealer called me to buy it back and I said absolutely not!
My truck is almost identical to yours except I have the 5.5 ft bed (wish it was the 6.5 but that's my fault for but realizing it when I bought it lol) mine is the XLT with the 5.0 and I love it. I'm glad I bought it way before the crazy truck prices hit cuz I couldn't afford to replace it even if I wanted to. I love my truck though so it's not going anywhere. My oldest son is only 9 but I've already decided it will be his when he's ready. Hopefully I can save up enough before then to afford a new one.
My 2014 F-150 XLT with the 5.0, 6R80 transmission with 117,000 miles hasn’t given me any problems either. I bought mine with 11,000 miles on it. With today’s prices and APR rates I’ll run that truck into the ground. If you take care of something and it doesn’t matter what it is, truck, house, lawn mower, boat, it will last you.
And the Feds keep raising the interest rate! I bought my 2017 XLT in early May and I'm paying dearly for it. I intend to keep it until it rusts in half. Wait... it's ALUMINUM, I'll keep it forever! Seriously, so far it's been the best, most comfortable riding vehicle I've ever owned. Still getting used to parking the SuperCrew in tight spaces but yeah, I love it.
I don't know if it's the best. My cousin had a 2016 F-150 with the Ecoboost V6. Had to have 3 different transmissions replaced and both turbos after less than 20k miles. He tossed it on a used lot for a 2020 Toyota Tundra. I think that was a bad decision but whatever floats his boat. Anyone, I guess can get a lemon. I think his was a lemon, lime, and persimmon...lol. I'll just stick to my 2005 Silverado LT Crew with the 5.3L because I cannot afford a new one. It's been a good truck and was my dads he left me when he passed. It won't go anywhere and I'll maintain it until it won't move anymore. Take care, bro.
I just purchased a 2015 F-150 Lariat Fx4 Caribou, this truck is fully loaded and just beautiful. If a recommendation for a good looking AT tire for down the road wisdom would be a great thanks in advance. Someone told me Wild Peaks.

Thanks for the video Rich. I haven’t had a truck in many years and recently “acquired the need” for one. I did some research and ended up with a 2017 F150 XL 4x4 with 100,000 miles. It was a fleet truck. I’ve watched a bunch of videos and am very happy to say there is buyers remorse… none what so ever. You and a few others helped with the decision, then just had to find one. With that mileage on the 5.0, what oil would you suggest. I live in western NY. It gets pretty chilly here and I only drive about 5000 miles per year. Also, any additive to the gas or oil? Thanks for all you do…. You’ve helped a lot of us. Happy holidays to you and yours. ✌️
What are your thoughts on getting a ‘17 5.0 with 110,000 miles vs an ‘18 2.7 with 75,000 miles? Really want a 5.0 but for the same price I could get the lower mileage 2.7. I’m thinking the 5.0 should be more reliable and still a good buy even at that mileage

Great review and advice ! I own a 2017 F150 with the 5.0 V8 i bought it from new and to this day ( 2024 ) i have noo issues with it . 😊
I have a 17 3.5 na v6 with 167k and love it. Don’t haul much except a 6x10 with mower and etc on the weekends.
I want one and will continue to search until I find a well maintained and documented service history.
The world calls is it karma. God calls it his law of reaping and sowing! Great word at the end.
Next you’re going to comment about how your cowardly goD bless it daily, how nice for you…great word..BeEs absolutely
My brother in Florida has a 2020 or 2019 Ford truck with V6 and 1 Turbo. He loves it
Another great video man, thank you. Love the talk about the truck and the message at the end. Stay safe!
The Coyote can go toe to toe with a first gen LS any day
Great video👍 Also thx for your positive attitude and kind words. It is much needed. Have a great day!
Haha, after watching your videos for the past few weeks, I purchased a 2016 V8 5.0 Grey Metallic with 84,500 miles. 😂 in Nov 2024.
I have 2016 F150 Lariat package, have done routine maintenance early. Did have to replace the starter. Definitely happy customer
NeXT upgrade 👍🏼 I have a 2003 4.3 Chevrolet with 270,000 miles. 20 years later still rocking. And been looking at Ford F-150
I have a '16 F150 Crew cab 4x4 with 5.0L and 6 speed auto. I LOVE it!
I really enjoy driving my 2015 Ford XLT Supercrew 5.0 V8, with six speed transmission.
Very nice truck. I love the F150 trucks.
Earned a sub with your closing statement brother
My very best truck was a 1997 F150, 3 door, 4X4, 4.6Triton. It was amazing on gas and ran beautiful for the 12 years I owned it and it had 350K with only yearly sparkplug changes (yes regular maintenance and oil changes too, lol). I really hated to see it go.
Same here '97 SC 8" 4.6 2wd. Sold it with 330,000 miles. Ball joints, u-joints, alternator (brushes wore out), cleaned EGR, 8.8" bearings, and basic maint. Though not too bad, I sold because of rust.
Thanks for being a good dude!
Insane.
Awesomeness! I love your truck. I feel the same way about my 2015 Kuga.
Not a bad thing to hear, bought the same truck/engine new and have 109,000 miles on it now
Sweet truck Rich!
Have a 2015 F150 FX4 with 76K on it. Only problems encountered were the wiper transmission and heater vent mode actuator. Love my truck.
my brother really enjoys his 2021 ford F150. he got it with only 9,000 miles on it.
You look good this morning Rich
Thank you kindly
I have a 2015 with the 3.5. I really like the way it runs. I do a lot of short trip hilly driving . I use the tow/haul mode just to let it breathe faster. Its getting to45K (used truck) I need to get some services done. Trust in local dealers is shaky at best. I trust independent shops more.
I have 142k on my 2015 3.5 non eco boost, so far so good.
I appreciate your video. I have had GMC trucks for about 20 years now and I may try a used FORD this time. I am getting tired of fighting with the rust on the metal bodies. Do you suggest buying one with the 5.0 over the 3.5 and the 2.7?
That's a really nice truck! :)
2011-2016 f250 gassers are great trucks as well.
Could you please tell me how many miles you have on your truck now and if you’ve had any head gasket or oil leak problems?
110k and none
What’s an spin module?
2013 F150 STX V8 Coyote and 6 speed trans. No issues except rusting now. When it's time I so hope to find a 2013-2017 in good condition available with same engine and trans.
I just picked up a 2017 f150 Lariat 4x4 with 81k miles. And yes it’s the 5.0 6sp transmission because of your opinion but not just any opinion. It’s an opinion of a ford master tech.lol So thank you for your wisdom. I’m coming from a 2001 limited Toyota tundra access cab 4x2. I’m more excited to have my kids in there just soo they can have more space and not with my tools.lol
great truck man I think it’s the best to I work for ford and I’m not biased but I do have to recognize that ford is a best seller for a reason
Hard to argue with the points made here.
Thank you !Rick😊
I love my 2017 xlt I bought new. Run premium fuel since day one and it has been such a great truck. I have owned high end cars (my wife’s choices Escalades, bmw, etc) but this does f150 4x4 is a dream to drive. 123k and purrs like a kitten. Dealer called me to buy it back and I said absolutely not!
God bless you brother
Wish I could afford one. Used market is still crazy price wise.
I concur, I got one too. 😊. 5.0 is just a solid engine.
Agreed brother gotta love the 5.0L Coyote V8
I said my package this exact package that I have is the best
@@FordBossMe Dude. I don't wanna know about your package. ROFL. Just kidding dude. Not about the package...LOL
Only problem I've had with my 2016 loaded f150 XLT 35,000 miles is the rear emergency brakes freezing up.
Thanks Rich.
You bet!
I just purchased a 2015 F-150 Lariat Fx4 Caribou, this truck is fully loaded and just beautiful. If a recommendation for a good looking AT tire for down the road wisdom would be a great thanks in advance. Someone told me Wild Peaks.
I LOVE goodyear duratrec Rts
@@FordBossMe Yep I noticed those as well and I'm running the Goodyear Wrangler SBL something like that on 20 inch rims. I will be needing a new set forward as these came on the truck a 2017 in correction. Thanks 👍🙏
Love my 17. Except the 4x4 issues.
I wish the entertainment center was bigger. I like the truck. I like the motor and the space inside. Only downside I think is that screen. I prefer the 5.0 motor
Amen Brother
I own 114k F150 ranch 2015 5.0 liter and it is very reliable. My only issue is that it has a periodic long crank after driving regardless if the outside temp is very hot or very cold.
That 5.0 is a great motor for a half ton.
Yep you got it brother, I have a 2011 Ford F150 with a 5.0L Coyote V8 in it with 161,000 miles on it and still going strong and it's a beast and it sounds like a beast with the Borla Exhaust as well.
The 5.0 doesn't have the cam phaser setup does it?
It does but doesn't have the issues the 17 - 20 3.5 Ecoboost does
What are your thoughts on getting a ‘17 5.0 with 110,000 miles vs an ‘18 2.7 with 75,000 miles? Really want a 5.0 but for the same price I could get the lower mileage 2.7. I’m thinking the 5.0 should be more reliable and still a good buy even at that mileage
Go with the 5.0L Coyote V8, you'll be alot happier in the long run.
I miss my 2016, it had the 2.7. I want another one. But I want the 5.0
My friend. First and foremost, thank you for your service. Truly appreciated. 🇺🇸🫡
I’ve been looking to get back into an F150 since I last had one (01 new-06) which I absolutely loved.
I’ve recently watched a DISGUSTING amount of RUclips trying to gather the best info possible.
Between this video and your Pre-2020 F150 Buyer’s Guide video, you have helped me to make my decision. Thank you, sir. 🤝
Take care and God bless you. Wishing you all the success in your work!
great video
Lost my 16 f150 xlt 4x4 in hurricane Ian. Only had it 7 months . Bought at 32k had 36k when totaled. I loved it.
Omg so sorry, did they help you get a new one?
@@FordBossMe thanks man. Liberty mutual actually paid me a lot more than I paid for it due to such low miles. Basically made up for all the dealer bs . But it was a 5.0 36 gallon tank 502.a with super low miles. Ended up finding a super low mile stx f250 with the 7.3. I love it a lot but for some reason I really miss my 150 . Wife wanted the 250. Her car got totaled. I have a transit for work so we share the 250 now.
