Another fantastic video. Thank you. I too had a maggiolina and found the uncovered ladder entrance annoying when needing a toilet exit during the dark wet nights, also I found condensation easily formed inside. Moved to the RV4 Oz tent and find it suits best. Keep up the travels! Cheers
Cheers Roy! There are definitely downsides to the Maggiolina, I've found the only way to combat the condensation is to have all 4 vents open which seems to work but leaves you vulnerable to the cold and rain. The Oztent is a good alternative, I have the RV2 which I use in the Lakes during the winter; such good tents, really well thought out design and the quality is excellent.
Europe Overland yes the Oz Tent gets the thumbs up from me. There is a canopy available for the maggiolina rtt, it should zip into the top hard shell and pegs out so the ladder is covered. My version was an early one and was not compatible but yours should be.
Seen the notification pop-up on me phone today, and made my day, looking forward to getting home and opening a cold beer and enjoying yet another great vid! Good work keep it up!!!
Awesome mate, i grabbed a couple of screenshots of the kitchen to be fair! What a great bit of kit. Your right about the system at Loch Lomond, its so bad that a few idiots are ruining it. Hopefully though, they dont go to far North!
Thanks mate! Yeah the kitchen is great, really useful. I've got a few finishing touches to do on the table section and then I'll film a review, it's the fourth one I've made. I'm toying with the idea of making a few to sell but the production cost is really high so I suspect they won't be viable to produce long term; probably why no one bothers to make them. There's a high end one available from a company called 'Camp Champ', they've taken the design and filled it full of chef grade kit. I had a look at one at the Adventure Overland show, it's very high quality but costs £6,500! Much cheaper to build your own if you have the time and tools.
Europe Overland Aye, i was wondering if ye made a few like ! £6,500 is madness man! But i suppose the utensils make up quite a bit of that! Im all for making one-might take me a couple of tries though, i showed the missus aswell she thinks its awesome too. Take it easy guys! Look forward to the next video!
An unexpected upload! Brilliant. We spent a day around the Glen Etive, about three weeks before you but the weather was WET! One thing that struck me when we were in the highlands is just how much rubbish people leave behind. So much, it was a such a shame. We picked some up and took it with us wherever we could. I was amazed people could be so disrespectful of such a outstandingly beautiful place. I assume that the ranger has resorted to taking photographs to try and deter such people from doing this. I looked at the frontier stove before the trip, but couldn’t work out if it was safe to use with the TT02 awning room. Keep them coming. I’ll keep pestering for that kitchen review 😀🤞🏻 cheers mate. All the best.
Thanks mate! Yep they have real problems with litter, it's everywhere. Some locals have a Facebook page that documents the state Glenn Etive gets in summer, it's a right tip. I think you could get a stove in the TT02 annex with a bit of care, although you wouldn't want to set fire to the annex as the whole bloody tent would go up in flames! Lol. I have a 'step back' flue section for mine, you can buy it from APB trading Ltd, costs about £35 and allows you to keep the burner under an awning or in a tent whilst letting the flue escape (out of the door potentially?). The frontier has a fairly large footprint which could be a problem in the awning room as there ain't much space, although I've noticed this stove recently, to me it looks better than the frontier stove - outbackerstoves.co.uk/products/outbacker-firebox-tent-stove Might be worth having a look at? I'm just thinking how good it would be with the TT02 as you could open the front door of the tent and let all the heat get in there; no more climbing into a cold bed! Cheers! (camp kitchen review coming soon, just need to put a few finishes to it).
Very interesting I would love to do it in my Peugeot Autosleeper but with big chunky winter tyres on, as for the drone ,I keep my batteries warm with a few hand warmers they are great for that but if your drone has 16 mins think 8 mins in that weather so don't fly far because it won't make it back lol Great video really does make me want to go in winter, I have a selk bag ( onesey } I've been in -9 in my van without the need to put my central heating on and yes hot water bottles are a must for safety in that weather I have 4 just for myself lol but not when using the selk bag i'd cook.
Cheers Ray! I don’t think you’d need winter tyres, most people don’t have ‘em up in Scotland; there are so few roads most of them get cleared regularly in the winter. Such a great place to visit! 👍
The winter tyres I was thinking about was the big thick nobly ones not sure what they are called lol I have got caught out here in Lancashire in winter the front wheel drive is useless possible more grip would save me I watch a couple who call their camper florence and over night they had4 inch or more of snow to wake up to luck for them 2 four by fours went past and saved them .as I would be going on my own that what slightly worries me, thanks for the quick response. @@Adventure-Outdoors
Hi, did I see you in York today? Friday 13th. By the time I got down my ladder you had gone so couldn’t have a quick chat. Great channel keep up the good work.
Lee Millington We're off on another trip in a few days so hopefully should have some more content to upload over the coming weeks. I'd be happy to meet up for a chat and a beer when I get back!
Hi, loving your overland trips and adventures, giving plenty of inspiration to get out there! How are you finding wild camping in areas like the lake district and the scottish highlands? Do you have any tips on how to avoid being moved on or what tracks you can take to find a remote spot? I hope to use my rooftent on a defender 90, do you reckon a remote spot off a greenlane/byway would be best? Thanks Aaron
Hi Aaron, cheers! Wild camping up in the highlands is pretty easy, as long as you get out of the way of peoples houses etc. you usually won't have any problems. The Lake District is a bit different as they usually have national park authority blokes driving around during the summer, but plenty of people manage to wild camp in camper vans without any problems so it could probably be done with a 4x4 and roof top tent I reckon. The problem with camping off a green lane is that they usually cut through private land, so you could find yourself camping on some farmers property and I reckon that might up the chances of being moved on. But in general, as long as you find a place that is remote and out of sight I reckon you should be fine 👍🏻.
hi mate. great video! im sure you have been asked this before many times but how are you finding the hilux overall for reliability ? im looking to get another truck to start overlanding but im torn between a hilux your shape or a discovery3/4 im sort of leaning more toward a hilux as iv heard there more reliable. thanks luke
Hi Luke, cheers! So far the Hilux has been 100% reliable. The only really common fault with the later models is injection failure (a fairly major fault!) but other than that the D4D engine is still one of the most reliable in the world. The build quality of the vehicle is good enough and the comfort level is great. I’ve never owned a Land Rover so I can’t offer a comparison, but I’m pretty sure you wouldn’t be disappointed with a Hilux. I’ve had mine across the Atlas Mountains, the Pyrenees, Portugal, Norway, Sweden, Spain etc. and it hasn’t missed a beat and has taken everything in its stride 👍.
Brings back memories from last year. We were at the Rutven Barracks and went all the way up North. Nice way to spend Christmas. Lucky man to have a wife that enjoys that kind of travelling 😊 I just can't seem to find these forest tracks ...
Indeed, there aren't many wives that are willing to spend Christmas in the cold sleeping on top of a pick up truck! Lol. There are loads of forest tracks but they're all off limits, every inch of Scotland seems to be owned by one estate or another. The forest road we camped on for Christmas Eve continued deep into the Cairngorm mountains, it looked great, but it's trespassing to drive them unfortunately :(
@@Adventure-Outdoors thankyou I thought it was! You can get them in the uk now but there over 3k 🤦 trying to sort a soloution to put my RTT on my canopy

Winter is the best time to go I think, it's quiet and there's no midges. You just have to be prepared for the cold and the long dark nights.
Hi bud wats the name or location of the building with sign want to visit it
Hi mate it's Ruthven Barracks, just of the A9 at Kingussie 👍
What canopy are you using on your hilux?
Hi mate it's an RSI Smart Canopy, imported from South Africa. It's held up well over the last 7 years although the locks are shite.
