    For the non xt200 featherlites, the bushing is crimped in. Once the head is removed, unscrew the large nut from the threads and remove. Remove grass and debris from inside the nut. Use a piece of wood and tap the end of the screw and it will recess partially into the tube. Spray lubricant around the screw and screw the nut back on to pull the screw back out. Do this several times until screw moves and spins freely.

    I had a model older than this one that I love. My sister has difficulty with tools that are too heavy and she actually loved mine and found it easy to use ruclips.net/user/postUgkx_rBCFuDW1zD6blTGhLkvAkxU657uR_lG . This is a newer model but was even lighter which she really appreciates. She enjoys it and I no longer have to go to her house to trim as she can handle it fine. Haven't used it enough to comment on the battery life but lithium batteries last longer than the old style. Being cordless makes it easy to trim the far edges of the property. The entire yard can be trimmed with one charged battery.

    While this doesn't fix my problem - the line release bump is stuck - your videa clarified for me how to fix an even bigger problem! Also, I learned why I need a vice and bench. Finally, EXCELLENT PRODUCTION VALUES. Not too busy. Not too much talking. And the fact that you didn't clean off your weedeater makes me feel like I am not alone in leaving mine grimey green.

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  8 лет назад

      Thanks for the compliment. You're definitely not alone with the grimy green, lol. And I would certainly be lost without my bench vise, for sure. The stuck line release... Take the line reel unit apart and give it a good cleaning, then some lubrication. If that doesn't solve the problem, a new trimmer head assembly may be required.

    Had mine just start falling out, leaving the flex shaft fall out of the engines drive socket. Yep, the grass will wrap around anything, like fishing string behind the propeller on your boat, then the seal leaks. Fixed vehicles for over 30 years and never new how this end came apart and worked. I do use a quality wheel bearing grease on the flex shaft, which is basically a gigantic version of the speedometer shaft for those of you that did not know everything was electronic. Great video and glad you chose to speak when needed. Question; Why are these made to fit guys that are between 4' 5" - 5' tall? At 6' 3" my back hurts. Using electrical conduit and a bicycle grip plus a few hose clamps, I added a long grip on the OEM handle. I spray painted it black for effects. This way I can stand straight up like a man and use in normal string trimmer mode or as an edger. I should patent this idea, but too late now.

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  8 лет назад

      If you're talking about the bushing assembly falling out, you can deform (slightly out of round) the end of the tube with pliers and hammer the assembly back in... making sure the drive cable engages as you do so. A different way is to cut a slit (about an inch or so) with a hacksaw on the end of the tube, put the assembly in and use a hose clamp to tighten it all together.

    Which parts did you separate for the cord to be able to work? Bushing from shaft or engine from shaft? When you pulled the cord (when separated) can you tell that the engine is turning?

  • @sunny5rising
    @sunny5rising  11 лет назад

    Does your model have the 1 or 2 piece shaft? If it's the 2 piece shaft, then you MAY have to take apart the upper portion of the lower shaft (inside the coupling area between the two shafts) in order to release the bushing. This is just an assumption though as I do not have one in front of me, and have not had the opportunity to work on one.

      Hello Royce. In the video here, I show how to remove the head. I have not used the Rino Winder, but it does look pretty universal, so I imagine it would most likely work. There are videos on RUclips showing, in detailed, how to install it. Just do a search on the Rino Winder II. They should help you out.

    How you go about taking the head off of Black & Decker electric weed eater

  • @curiouscharacter1
    @curiouscharacter1 7 лет назад

    Great video but I can't seem to find info on what I need. My flex shaft needed to be replaced on my featherlite plus. When the replacement shaft came in I noted it was 1" longer than the original. Apparently it broke off 1" shy of where it goes into the square hole in the top of the spinning bolt at the bottom of the shaft (this is the bolt the head threads onto). This "plug" that fits into the shaft and has a hole for the spinning bolt is probably pressed in. If it was a straight shaft, I could use a piece of round stock and hammer it out but, I have the curved shaft. Any experience with this or ideas?

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  7 лет назад

      +curiouscharacter1 If I understand you correctly, you have the same shaft as mine and should be able to remove the bushing assembly like I did... if you need to remove it that is. Please explain more if I'm wrong.

    • @curiouscharacter1
      @curiouscharacter1 7 лет назад +1

      Well, you know, I watched your video and it didn't register with me that you just hammered it out by banging on the ring threaded on the bottom bolt. I unthreaded that, was perplexed how to get the assembly out, tried to rig up a slide hammer rig to pull it out (didn't work), and eventually removed the nylon centering sleeve that runs the full length of the shaft and hammered the bolt up through the bushing so it could drop out the top with the 1" piece of sheared off flex cable. Kind of a bass-ackwards way of doing it but I got it up and running this afternoon. I apologize for implying your video was inadequate when it was only my own inattention as the cause. If it will make you feel any better, I spent almost 1 1/2 hrs more on this than I should have by not closely watching (slaps forehead ala "I coulda had a V--8"commercial). Additionally, thank you for being one of the few people on RUclips who take the time to answer questions. It's commendable that over 6 years after your original posting, you're still willing to address people's questions.

    Well my trimmer head keeps falling off.. just unscrews itself when i try to ignite trimmer unlesss i start it from first drag it keeps in place during work but as soon i stop it it just unscrews again and falls down.. i tryed to mount the whole head as good as i can as far as screwing allows...maybe need more strenght in doing so ? or additional wrench would help as i was using my hands only ... ??

    • @sunny5rising
      @sunny5rising  8 лет назад

      Two wrenches would help, but make sure not to tighten it to the point of stripping the threads. It really shouldn't take all that much to get it tight enough. Almost sounds like the threads are already messed up OR not the right size for the shaft. Is this a new head? Have you tried a different one to see if the problem goes away?

      Tammy, it seems to me that either one of the drive couplings is stripped/broken or a drive cable is broken. Here are part diagrams and parts once you find the specific issue. www.ereplacementparts.com/weed-eater-fx26sc-gas-trimmer-parts-c-17589_17626_168808.html
