Oracle gang rise up I still genuinely consider these to be peak 2D Zelda. I know most people tend to point more towards Link's Awakening for GBC Zeldas, but I always view it as the difference between Pokemon Gen 1 and Gen 2 - Gen 1 and LA are more famous, but Gen 2 and Oracles are more polished and there's just *so much* going on in those little cartridges. I replayed them late last year and it's still crazy to think about all the stuff to do, even before passwords.
And just like Gen 2, as cool as some of the ideas were, they weren't the most practical thing to work around as a kid. Luckily I had friends who were into both Pokemon and Zelda to experience it with. For me the pair are second only to Minish Cap, where I feel Capcom just made the most polished and charming handheld Zelda. The Oracle games though are the most ambitious games to release between OOT and BOTW imo. MC tops either individually for me but the linked game experience is unmatched. Even just that secret GBA shop, added nothing of substance but to have a GBC cart with a feature only accessible on the next generation handheld just feels like Capcom flexing how crazy they were allowed to get with this project.
Can't say which one is better Seasons or Ages, they are equally special to me. By the way it takes guts to say what you said. It helped you cope with life as did the same video games did with me. Keep up the great work bro!
It's definitely a tough choice. I appreciate the kind words and I'm glad someone else was also touched by these games. Many people are afraid to be vulnerable online, and myself as well for sure, but it's a part of life and it's something that I can hopefully add that's unique to the "video game youtube scene" as well as hoping that it helps someone know they aren't alone in all of this.
I much prefer Seasons, both from an items perspective and a puzzle perspective. I'm also not a fan of overworld swapping, except in Link to The Past. I really like the seasons mechanic and Subrosia has a lot of charm. I much prefer to suffer the Magnet Glove over the Mermaid Suit.

This video has actually convinced me to give this game a good try, judging by it this proofs that as long as a platform can carry the experience, games can be timeless works of art. Greatly enjoyed BotW on my first playthrough,, but didn't enjoy it at all when I tried it later, though the adventuring appeal is obvious. Loved learning more about Zerbraxi through this video, it's uncommon but helps to give context to what is otherwise a blank source of entertainment. Tunic's on my long list of games to eventually try, it's not quite my genre but this might change, I am aware of it's greatness.

Especially when it comes to childhood trauma since so much of that is often experienced while you have such little agency over your life. It can be immensely difficult to overcome. I mean there is still SOO much for me to heal from still, but I hope that if at least one person is inspired or encouraged to overcome their own pain, if I can help 1 person do that, then it was all worth it :) Funny how our experiences with Breath of the Wild are flipped. Got ages back in 03 when i was 7 i played it daily my entire life and i have the entire game memorized from every dungeon cave item everything and its tied eith majoras mask as my 2nd fav game of all time
They deserve WAY more attention than they get. Honestly, the handheld Zelda games deserve way more recognition in general. Link's Awakening gets some good coverage but that's about the only one which is quite a shame.

The magnet glove lets you do SOOO many tricky things. It's such a blast! The noise is absolutely ear piercingly agonizing but the gameplay makes up for my blown out ear drums.

It's the quality of the interactions that make these things special, which looking at the comments here and chats in the Discord, is among the best. And as you said, there still is an audience spending their free time to watch these videos, on relatively smaller scales RUclips is a platform for such niche content. The authenticity and unique humour is what kept me around here, while I have left many superficially similar channels to the will of the algorithm.

It’s really sad that we didn’t see Capcom Link in something like Hyrule warriors. Imagine Oracle Link’s potential movesets. Yea he’d have a sword. But the rod of seasons, the harp, the animal buddy flutes. Man it woulda been rad. And Minish link not showing up with a four sword moveset. For the 3 GBC Zeldas I'd rank them best to decent Link's Awakening DX Oracle of Seasons Oracle of Ages I personally never cared for the dungeons in these games. There's some good ones like Face Shrine, Turtle Rock, and Unicorn Cave, but most of the rest just aren't as strong.
I mean it when I say that Mermaid's Cave is one of my absolute favorites. I think I still have a Top 10 Zelda Dungeons video from like 10 years ago on the channel and it was in that list. While I think it's a comforting narrative to simply blame a general opinion on a lack of play experience, I'm not sure it's that simple. It more appears to just be a trend that evolves over time where peoples shock is tempered and they grow to admire quirks of a piece of art that was mostly detested. We see this with Dark Souls 2, Shadow the Hedgehog, and recently Paper Mario Sticker Star. In fact, exploring this very topic more in depth could be interesting in and of itself.

I prefer Ages due to really liking puzzles. Figuring out tought puzzles is very satisfying.

I don't like it pretty much at all. Though the general consensus about it has changed dramatically over the years.

@@AozoraOrigami I think it's more a matter of "over the surprise" of it. Everyone I know who doesn't like it has played it. While I think it's a comforting narrative to simply blame a general opinion on a lack of play experience, I'm not sure it's that simple. It more appears to just be a trend that evolves over time where peoples shock is tempered and they grow to admire quirks of a piece of art that was mostly detested. We see this with Dark Souls 2, Shadow the Hedgehog, and recently Paper Mario Sticker Star.
In fact, exploring this very topic more in depth could be interesting in and of itself.
sure it sounds lame but screwing with the seasons would really throw the world out of wack, farming and livestock would be screwed, im sure plenty of animals and bugs would die off/go extinct etc
