" Fat is a feminist issue" , by Susie Orbach. It's well worth quoting authors as well, especially when their book saved your life

Props to Roth and to everyone who decides to confront their demons and live a fuller life.
But. Here's the problem: Many of us abuse substances (food, alcohol, drugs) to soothe the pain of not having been loved as children, or of having been rejected all our lives. No matter how many summer dresses you wear in winter, you cannot force people to like you. NO amount of confidence will make physically unattractive people accepted and desired by others; in fact, you may well reap ridicule because you are clearly delusional for not realising that everyone is laughing at you because you don't seem to notice you're mutton dressed as lamb.
Maybe it's because Americans have been taught to believe that self-confidence fixes everything? I don't get it.
