Hello world. As promised, here is the tutorial on how to make the table-cover parachutes I got for free from the Sonic Dad website. You can have it as well (www.sonicdad.com/partners/thekingofrandom2/). I just have a couple more videos I'm finishing up for the rocket building series, like a new version of sugar motors, how to make fire resistant wadding to protect the parachutes, as well as the tutorial on how to build the rockets. So expect to see those coming soon. :D
Some quick links to a few of the materials I used: [✓] Dollar store tablecloth: amzn.to/2c31Tw0 [✓] Swivel hooks : amzn.to/2c9svHB [✓] String: amzn.to/2c1XSoJ
Hi Grant, Videos are Great. I am making a rocket similar to the randomizer with my 8th grade son. The randomizer turned out to be undoable with materials available in Germany. With imagination we are making something close. We are trying to make the parachutes now. Again we cannot get the table cloths you use, which has caused us some trouble. In order to help those outside of the US, it would be cool if you could always give the exact measurements of the materials you are using. This then makes it possible to find substitutes much more easy and make less mistakes. For example, we are using a poncho instead of the table cloths for our chutes. In the video we did not catch that you were making the cuts on 2 layers of the table cloths until using the technique on our single layer poncho to find that we did not get a cross, but only a half of one 😂 . Anyway, thanks for making the videos. We are having a lot of fun.
I made these with a large group of school kids yesterday and they loved them, they played with them most of the day and i was on the school roof most of the day I did have to change the way they make them for the kids but worked out the same, thanks for the idea.
I just made an 8.5 inch round parachute for a small model rocket that I built with a kit. It came with a streamer but I wanted a parachute. I can't wait to try it out.
My parachute worked way to well. The wind took it like 1/2 mile away from the launch site and me and my friends looked for it for like 20 muintes. But it was worth it because the parachute worked.
+Joe Vasicek Yes it works for about 50-100 launches before the tape starts having trouble. It is the most common point of failure though, so perhaps electrical tape or a tape with stronger adhesive would increase their longevity. Duck Tape would do it for sure. It's an open source idea, so it's open to suggestions :)
+Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" did you launch it 50-100 times? Or is that how you judge it after launching it a couple time? Other than that, awesome video :D
Hey grant thanks for the design I had a project at school which I had to make a parachute out of bakers paper I remembered your design and didn't .you really saved my bacon to day thank you and keep doing what your doing
I'm glad we live in a world where 1-unit-of-money-store tablecloths are all folded and packed the same way :P Otherwise your instructions would only match your particular table cloth manufacturer from your dollar store
And you always make quick clips before the actual vid, which gives you 10 days to make a vid. Seriously? Your vids are amazing but please make them more often and give up on the quick clips. Anyone Agree? Pls thumbs up.
simply awesome like always . This ninja ( Grant ) is simply good at every thing . But i am thinking when he is going to make a video on randomiser i am dying to to make it . But any way hats off to you man hats off.....
ok, so the question is would have a greater longevity of the chutes by using a reinforced packing tape instead of conventional scotch tape, or do you find the chute material does not last that long to make using such tape "necessary "?
Hello Mr. Thompson, I have seen almost all of your videos but I was wondering if there was a simpler way to do this instead of measuring and all. Also I was wondering if we could get the same results with plastic bag. Thanks
How do you eject that parachute from the tip of the rocket? That is the missing part for me, how do I make it open when the rocket reaches its top alltitude? Thank you in advance
Grant, can you please convert inches into the metric system because I am 8 years old and I only now the metric system, try doing it in all your projects when you use inches and I enjoy a lot your videos
I actually made a parachute with a dollar store shower curtain before a couple of years ago for a small school project :3 I had no crack in the egg in the basket after dropping it from like 15feet which meant 100% HURRAH!
What if you mash up all the parachutes together to make a large one? Would I finally be able to skydive off the roof of my house or will it be too much?
How does the parachute release though. You put it in the rocket and then put the cap over it. What mechanism make the parachute come out at the right time
you do a bit with silicon molding, and i was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to make food safe silicon with household materials, or is that impossible?
Hey grant I watched the rocket video and I was wondering do i have to do the gunpowder ejection charge to get the parachute out or would it launch with gravity thank you big fan Greyson
Hey grant.... I made the slingshot and asked questions there, but it didn't get answered. I am wondering why when I make the 'sling it always snaps the cords after a few days... maybe because the zip ties are too tioght?
+Alexander L I've never had the thick bands break. Only the smaller ones that come 2 in one box. Try using Duck Tape or Electrical tape instead of the zip ties and see if that helps?
youre so stupid.i read your utube summary.there is many people who reached a thousand subscribers without 1 video.do your research first dumbo.also i didnt want to correct my grammer because its useless a 7 year old like you alexander can read it
Blue Lamp Why are you attacking me? Did I do something to you or do you just get mad at random people like a seven year old would? Also, my summary was when I decided to do a stupid project that I am no longer working on. Secondly, I looked very thoroughly through the description of the original and comments and did not find any evidence of this happening before. Finally, you wouldn't need to correct your grammar in the first place if you actually were educated. And honestly, it's sad that you are not educated and that you will only be able to work at McDonalds, because I wish good fortune on everybody.
So how heavy can the object be for this to work properly? I plan on using it on my action figures but it weighs about 5oz,so I don't want it crashing down if it can be helped

Pro tip : if you have no table cloth cut a garbage bag in half it is slightly smaller but will work with the randomizer rocket
why tf this has no replys anyways thanks dude

I made this parachute today for my homemade rocket. It looks great, and seems to work well on the ground! Thanks for the great video

Awesome tutorial Grant! I really like your folding and cutting technique - much faster than cutting out each corner of the canopy. Well done! -Ritchie
+SonicDadDotCom Thanks Ritchie, I'm glad to hear it's SonicDad approved :)
+Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" make another random collaboration like the
party one which included 10 youtubers
SonicDadDotCom the origami doesn’t work
Ok lemme make a life sized version of this
have fun
RIP
I recommend not using scotch tape
@@legokid-_-6902 I almost read crotch tape

Lol
Is Scotch tape really strong enough for these parachutes? That's rather surprising.

+Gentleman²³ Many more times than that.
Grant Thompson - "The King of Random" :D
He deserves the dad of the year award
I remember when when this video was released. I’m now watching it again 8 years later to make skyballs with my daughter
Hey grant thanks for the design I had a project at school which I had to make a parachute out of bakers paper I remembered your design and didn't .you really saved my bacon to day thank you and keep doing what your doing
My brain can't handle this guy's videos....
now i can jump off from a 10 story building safely and never be late to work.
I swear I live near you, Im always hearing explosions and stuff. Haha. Love your videos and I love that you dont get messed with by CSPD.
I love the simplicity of this setup and yet it is durable. Well done.
I just built it and it actually works. It is so fun. I added a vitamin bottle so it can carry things.
I hope to see your rocket parachute release system in a later video.
I'm glad we live in a world where 1-unit-of-money-store tablecloths are all folded and packed the same way :P Otherwise your instructions would only match your particular table cloth manufacturer from your dollar store
+Cooking With Cows Yup.
Cool! I'll try it tomorrow when I go skydiving! Thanks Grant! XD
Please no
+videoshack12351 haha it's just a joke, but if I was serious, you would have just saved my life lol. Mad props bro 😂
+Azaan Eyaad lol

Awesome, I'll have to use these for my mini rockets! Thnx Mr. Random!
I’m trying to make my own homemade rocket I needed a parachute this will really help!
Very cool.
Oh hey
i love every single project he makes

Awesome, thanks for sharing!
how did you manage to get the parachutes to launch mid air in the rocket? please answer asap.
Great work bro 😳
It's the simplest way u have made
great video, i made the sky balz and the parachute
it was really fun
Hey man, if you manage to read this, I just want you to know that I love your Vids! Rock On! KingofRandom!
loving the flower tape dispenser
Awesome, I was startled by the test flight of the rocket and how the parachute deployed
He's got the voice of an airline pilot.
I watch his videos in remembrance and it’s hard for me to watch videos about parachutes 😫 R.I.P my bro
We will all remember you hope fully your in a better place
Great video Grant! A real money saver. Gotta love those dollar stores, especially the 99c only stores. :-)
Still missing you buddy.
It's good that you changed the music, the last backround music was driving me crazy.
If you don’t have the elastic I found using the thicker rubber bands work just as well
Zach TNT thank you

Hey Grant,
love your vids,
Just wondering if any type of tablecloth will work out whether it has to be a certain type of material.
Thanks,
Jake
7 year late reply, any table cloth will work fine as long as its light weight and thin
tbh that's one cute looking tape 😀 I might try to make these 😄

Amazing videos but I've noticed recently everyone has gone to 60fps can we expect that in future videos! Amazing work as always!!!
Yes, now I can finally make a parachute for the skyballz I made!
Said no Grant Thompson viewer ever
So, what triggers the parachute to deploy from the tip of the rocket?
Grant, can you please convert inches into the metric system because I am 8 years old and I only now the metric system, try doing it in all your projects when you use inches and I enjoy a lot your videos
AAAA TYSM this helped so much for science!!!!!!! YOU SAVED MY GRADE
i used to make parashutes prom trash bag, but we had around 16 lines on it

Awesome! Made it today with your directions. Worked exactly how you said it would work Grant Thompson - "The King of Random"

I don't know why I watch these tutorials it's not like I'm ever going to even try to make theses
you do a bit with silicon molding, and i was wondering if you could make a tutorial on how to make food safe silicon with household materials, or is that impossible?
grant thompson CAN we split the dimentions to create one half the size or will it not work?
OHHH nvm i didnt see the micro chutes part
Omg! Your tape is so cute!
Rip hope you fly high like your parachute
Very nice, thanks. For my next project is perfect!
What is your opinion on putting glitter, party popper streamers, or confetti in amongst the parachute?
I like the idea of fitting a parachute inside a rocket - but how do you ensure it deploys?
I'm 8 years old and I made sky balls their super cool!
Nice 👍☺️🙂.
Hey grant is it ok to cut just like a cross in one way like you got table cloth and you
cut it like big cross
Hey grant I watched the rocket video and I was wondering do i have to do the gunpowder ejection charge to get the parachute out or would it launch with gravity thank you big fan Greyson
If we had rubber table clothes would it catch the air the same?
I have just made a blowgun and thanks for the tutorial.

Alexander L i was mad because you didnt think about your goal before
+Grant Thompson... What do you think about making a cheap zoom lens for smart phones using a one eye binocular.
So how heavy can the object be for this to work properly?
I plan on using it on my action figures but it weighs about 5oz,so I don't want it crashing down if it can be helped
i would use a 16 line circular parachute for the rockets, but only because i use circulars for an rc cargo drop.
Is it possible to do this with garbage bags? If so, what are the dimensions?
it should work well (same diameter
I have been waiting all day for this video yay!!!
Is the elastic cord and barrel swivel steps necessary?
Two swivels used in that configuration can't swivel. I recommend using one swivel (one or two sizes larger).

Origami is the art of folding paper.

2) You cut the "paper" making it kirigami.
3) You could have simply said "by folding the plastic table covers"
hi grant
I was wondering..could u make a project out of silica gel?..u know the stuff in medicine containers...I would love to see that project.
The spycrap used the plastic table cover for "personal use" (probably a picnic) what can I use to replace it?
will the parachutes work if we make them life sized
they can be used with bottle rocket too.
i made a sky ball with a plastic bag and it worked just as well
Hey grant,
I was wondering, are you planning to make an explosive project anytime soon?
Love the videos by the way, keep it up!
+Dan schitt Yes I've got one made, and it's scheduled for release after the rocket series is completed.
Use straight quotes
R.i.p bro
This is so cool good video keep up the great work
sir can you please tell me what is thing that u used as base( on the table with measurement) and knife used
thank you
Matts Wife - We need weapons to protect us honey go buy a gun! Matt - Nah I'll just make some.

One question Grant, how is it a tablecloth if it is plastic?
