  • In this video, I demonstrate how to create high-quality sharpening stones using diamond powder and green silicon carbide powder.
    Cost of materials :
    - Diamond powder : 8€/100 carats
    - Green silicon carbide powder : 15€/500gr
I'll be mixing the powders with epoxy (the less epoxy possible) to have them binded to an aluminium support. The support can be changed for wood, iron, copper, plexiglass or whatever you'd like. I only had aluminium on hand.
If I had to evaluate the abrasive quality of the stones :
    - Diamond stone : 10/10
    - Green silicon carbide : 8/10 (probably because I used too much resin)

Wow, excellent job and innovation! I never would have thought of making my own resin bonded diamond stones! This is something that will save people a lot of money. Thank you for the video, I'd love to see more sharpening related stuff!

This method is only suitable for diamonds. With sic, mix very little epoxy and must have a compression molding machine

Fully agreed. I did try to compress the sic but i had used too much epoxy. It works but not as good as it should. Cheers
