I was at The Rock and Roll Farm to see the Stooges shortly before this show. The guy that punched Iggy was wearing a plaid flannel shirt. He was no biker. Iggy jumped from the stage into the "audience" after someone threw an egg that hit the top of the bass drum. Iggy was gesticulating wiggling his fingers around, arms outstretched towards this guy. The guy gave Iggy a right cross to the head. Iggy jumped up to the stage, went to the wall behind the stage, and ran along the wall and eventually out the front door. Show over.
The night before they had played this song for forty minutes and received death threats from a local biker gang. Louie Louie is also important because in Iggy's first outfit, The Iguanas, he prided himself on singing a similarly vulgar version of the song, thus "I never thought it would come to this" is not just a comment on the bottles, but his very life as an artist. Going from covers of a kingsmen songs, to three albums and back.
Go watch rock n roll true stories on RUclips the guy talks about iggy getting into a fight with bikers and having Aerosmith opening up for them on this night
Why did you cut out the glass bottle incident at the end?Iggy says: "With Louie louie.....(a bang is heard and glass shattering)....Thanks to the person who threw this glass bottle in my head, it nearly killed me but you missed again so you have to keep trying next week!Which, as we know, came 19 years later.
@tonygotmoxie Well I think if it's gonna be good then James is gonna have to have a lot of input. It seems when a lot of singers go solo and take over more of the writing roles their music suffers. The Stooges have to be a collaborative effort, and from what they've been saying, that's what their new music, whatever it may be, shall be.
@Koolkitties and that's what makes this song (moreso this version of it) one of my favorite songs of all times. The Stooges were falling apart as a band and Iggy as a person and they did it so crudely but eloquently. James Williamson and Scott Thurston brought a lot to this band, I wonder if any of it will come back on their next record or if it'll be as embarrassing as the Weirdness
"I never thought it would come to this, baby!"
Classic
Saw them at the old Boston Tea Party so long ago they were still calling themselves The Amazing Psychedelic Stooges.
I saw them in 1969 at the Tea Party but they called themselves The Stooges the night I saw them, they opened for Ten Years After.

Best solo to this song I've yet heard.

"I won't feck you while I'm working."
What a pro!
Believe-it-or-else but I just learned that the Stooges opening act that nite were (drumroll...) AEROSMITH!!!! Anyone know anything about that...?
Go watch rock n roll true stories on RUclips the guy talks about iggy getting into a fight with bikers and having Aerosmith opening up for them on this night
