Video has lots of helpful info. Thanks for sharing. Also, I purchased Jon’s Dad’s Kungsleden book last month. Excellent, very detailed content. Highly recommended for anyone planning to hike Kungsleden.

Thank you very much! Are you planning to hike Kungsleden?
I have a friend who was an exchange student to Turkey back in 1967. I know a woman who was an exchange student to Sweden from Turkey back in 1975. :) A lot of my life has revolved around exchange students! That’s how I got interested in Kungsleden.

@@JonsDadHikes I have been walking in nature for about 6 years and now I travel to different places with my private vehicle and collect memories and shoot vlogs.

Another great video - lots of good tips. Thanks. One question - you mention having to hike out your empty cans. Do the huts and/or mountain stations have refuse bins for all types of waste? Or do they only allow some things?

      Hi!
The mountain CABINS are very remote. You take out what you bring in. I saw several cabin hosts carrying big backpacks full of their own stuff as they changed to new hosts. I think they are stationed at cabins for a month at time. They can't carry out a month of garbage with them so they must have some kind of accommodation for the staff. You and me? We pack it in and pack it out.
The mountain STATIONS have garbage and recycle options. They have some kind of garbage and recycle service. You will empty your room's garbage can into their big receptacle when you check out.

Hi, One more question for you if you don’t mind. I appreciate that the misquotes can be notoriously bad on the Kungsleden, but how about black flies, midges, etc? Have occasionally read it can be equally bad but would appreciate hearing what your experience was.

      Hi!
I expected the same as you. Lots of mosquitoes and lots of other small flying bugs. I’ve seen lots of reports of ruthless mosquitoes. 🦟 People say they have to walk and eat at the same time. I did not see anyblack flies. It was never that bad for me.
I sprayed everything with permethrin. My clothes, my tent, my gear, everything. I was not shy with the permethrin. I also kept my tent zipped at all times.
I used my head net only one time. I pretty much wore my raincoat / shell all the time. With my hood up, the bugs ignored me. I carried DEET to put on exposed skin, but never used it. I don’t like the taste of DEET so I resist using it.
It was windy a lot which kept the mosquitos grounded. It also went below freezing or close to freezing several nights.
Bug were not a problem for me. They were there sometimes, but they never affected my plans. This is opposite of what I expected!
One of my friends left her tent unzipped while she was making dinner. When she returned to her tent, it was full of flying midges or other tiny insects. It was a nightmare for her. I did find lots of corpses in my tent that same day. I assumed permethrin made the difference.
I had heard that the water levels and the bug levels are lower later in the season so I decided to go in August. If you go in June, there will be more water and more bugs.
Next time, I will use permethrin again. I will take the smallest bottle of DEET I can find. They sell it in the mountain cabins and stations if I need more.
I may also delay my start until the middle of August. I know I can do it in four weeks and things start to close down in the middle of September.
No worries about asking questions. I’m glad to help.
      Jon’s Dad
