Everyone loves the smell of baking pies and cakes. People cannot get enough cinnamon. You'll get plenty of these in this popular dump cake recipe. This is a fan-favorite!

Wednesday Win #13 Cross a Raging River or Die Trying
There are 2 sources I’ve used for my backcountry items in Sweden. Kartbutiken and Naturkompaniet. We’re talking about maps but try to grab some freeze-dried food made by Real Turmat while you’re buying stuff. Everyone one of their meals is delicious. Website for The Map Store (Kartbutiken): www.kartbutiken.se/ Website for The Nature Company (Naturkompaniet): www.naturkompaniet.se/ I did not find an option to switch the Naturkompaniet website to English. I walked thru the Kartbutiken English on-line purchasing process almost to the end. It appears you can order and ship to yourself in other countries outside the EU now. When I tried to get them shipped to me before my hike, it wasn’t possible. I even wrote to their customer service with no luck getting an exception. From what I can find, there is only one version of the Kungsleden Atlas and one version of the maps. The Atlas is in Swedish only. It contains significant amounts of text that may be important. I used my Google Translate app with my camera to hover over the Swedish text. It translated it accurately. This requires an internet connection and will not work in the Swedish mountains. It would work for planning before your trip though. The maps are bilingual - Swedish and English. I found 2 companies that produce maps for Kungsleden. They are Calazo and Norstedts. Link to Atlas: www.kartbutiken.se/kungsleden-friluftsatlas-calazo?search=kungsleden&description=true&page=1 Links to the 5 Norstedt Maps: 1. www.kartbutiken.se/kungsleden-1-abisko-kebnekaise-karta-och-guide-outdoorkartan?search=kungsleden&description=true 2. www.kartbutiken.se/kungsleden-2-kebnekaise-saltoluokta-karta-och-guide-outdoorkartan?search=kungsleden&description=true 3. www.kartbutiken.se/kungsleden-3-saltoluokta-kvikkjokk-karta-och-guide-outdoorkartan?search=kungsleden&description=true 4. www.kartbutiken.se/kungsleden-4-kvikkjokk-adolfstrom-karta-och-guide-outdoorkartan?search=kungsleden&description=true 5. www.kartbutiken.se/kungsleden-5-adolfstrom-hemavan-karta-och-guide-outdoorkartan?search=kungsleden&description=true
I'm looking for English versions of the maps and atlas I talk about in the video. Since I am bilingual, I often do not realize which language I am using. I remember that the legend on the maps is in 3 languages, German being the 3rd, I think. I don't think I'll find a version specifically for English speakers and I don't think it should matter very much for planning or hiking. I have a copy of the atlas and have looked at it, but I don't recall all the language options. I'm currently hiking segments of the Ice Age Trail and will look closely at the atlas and maps when I return home. I'll let you all know what I find. Don't worry. It won't be very long. :)
Can you post a link to the english version of maps and atlas

We cooked like this in Girl Scouts, too. Reminds me of good times at camp! Great video! The dates for the October Ohiopyle youtubers meetup are Oct. 25, 26, 27th. I'll be sending out an email a little later this month with the private details & location.
@@IceBearHalfwayPoint thanks! I put it on my calendar…
Wonderful sharing here my friend all the best Stay safe and healthy have a great week 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks!
Do give us a review once you’ve had some more time in it.
@@Thisoldhiker Absolutely!
Great info as usual. I’ve just returned home from hiking Kungsleden in August. Had an amazing time. The information on your videos and in your book played a very important part in the success of my hike!! Sincere thanks👍🏻. Weather for me was quite varied. My first 3 days were 24C. I also had cold 10-13C rainy days. Most nights were 10-15C but had a couple of nights 3-4C. I used a Zpacks Duplex dyneema tent. No issues with it. Had some windy days but was always able to find a protected location sheltered by a big rock, hill or trees. One day there were winds over 80 kph (50 mph). Bugs were not an issue except for one evening. It was windy so I pitched my tent in a small valley beside a little lake. The wind disappeared shortly after and the bugs joined me by the thousands🤣🤣. Otherwise, I used a deet-free repellant that worked well when needed, which was only for about 5 days. The constant breeze kept them away for the most part.
Wow! Thanks for the positive thoughts. I’m glad your hike was a success too. No surprises on the weather! My newest tent is a Durston. It’ll save me almost 1 kg. Next summer I want to hike Kungsleden again with a fully load pack under 30 # or 14 kg. I’m looking forward to seeing your video from the trip.
@@JonsDadHikes 14 kg is definitely doable especially with the superstar Durston tent!! 14kg was my starting weight at Kvikkjokk, all in with 4 days of food and camera gear. Was comfortable with that. There is stuff that I know could have been left behind. Next summer I will be focusing reducing that at least a couple of kgs 👍🏻
@Cary-cgc98 do you have a big trip planned for next summer too?
Very nice addition to your gear 👍🏻
@@Cary-cgc98 Saved almost 2 pounds / 1.8 kg. So far, liking it. Need more nights to be sure.
Love the story behind the music and the trail, glad I got to see this come across my feed, very informative+1 like and sub
Awesome, thank you!
How'd you like it??
@@michael_budda So far ok. I can’t do a real review until December. I have several trips planned between now and then. I like it so far tho. Saved weight. Easy to set up. Saved weight in my wallet too. :)
@@JonsDadHikes that's the most important weight 😄
Great and informative episode man, love it!
Tack så mycket!
What time of year was this?
This was Mar 22-24 2024. Just earlier this year. It got cold at night, but it was a great trip!
@@JonsDadHikes I am planning on going in late November this year. Any suggestions?
@@traileagle9247 Not sure... You do need to have reservations to use the shelters. The trail topography and tread are great. No complaints or anything to warn you about. It is not a loop by any means. You'll need to have a shuttle plan - unless you do an out-and-back which could be fun too. We had two cars and did our own shuttling. If any specific questions come up, I am glad to help. Have fun! Let me know how it goes!
I've noticed that, since retiring, its pretty rare that I wear blue jeans. Maybe I'm doing this without thinking.
That’s funny. I never thought about it. I noticed I am wearing an old pair blue jeans in the video, but I was just out for a day hike. I went to Kohl’s in March to buy two new pairs of blue jeans because the old ones were out. I think I’ve worn only one of them once since April. Blue jeans just aren’t part of my life anymore. Retirement is definitely my preferred lifestyle!
Great show. I live about an hour drive to Mohican and love to hike there. Subscribed.
Thanks for the sub!
Congrats! Thats an iconic place.
It really is! I hope you’re making good progress this year.
Thanks for the look at the southern terminus and congratulations on finishing your adventure.
Thanks for watching!
Aka a compound fracture.
Yes - fortunately, all of my experience with compound fractures is theoretical! Minor cuts, dehydration, heat exhaustion, and heat stroke are the only first aid events I’ve had to deal with!
Nice shirt! 😄💚👊
One of my favorites! 👴
very nice hike my friend 👍👍
Glad you enjoyed it
Thanks for the detailed and very well-presented information. That was just what I was searching for for my thruhike beginning in a few weeks. Keep up the awesome work and thank you so much! Greetings from Switzerland.
Glad it was helpful!
I don't think I have enough fingers and toes to count all those peaks! 😂 Beautiful view! Have you seen any of those Joro spiders while on the trail in GA? I'm wondering if they are out there and hitching rides with the NOBO hikers. It's only a matter of time before they make their way up here to the northeast.
Thanks! I had not heard of those spiders so I looked them up. I am certain I would have remembered them if I had seen them! Spiders do not usually bother me, but those would get my attention. :)
very nice my friend 👍👍
@@andrefreitas63 Merci!
Great tour of the Dungeon. I like that Uni got to have a picture taken there! 😄 Yay for not getting lost! Gorgeous views! 😍 There's a ton of people who think Georgia is flat. You wouldn't believe how often I hear that. Those are tall mountains. So you're in Ohio normally, right? Would you want to participate if I do a youtubers meetup in October? Great video! 😃💚👊
I think a RUclipsr meet up in October would be great. I’m camping on the weekend of the 18th with some friends near Toledo. Otherwise, I’m free.
RESPECT!
Thanks. I’m really glad I can still be involved with scouting.
What a fantastic view on Blood Mountain! I remember it well. The shelter is definitely one of the coolest I have seen on the trail. I wasn't aware of the haunting, but I did get a creepy feeling inside it! 😯We try to visit every shelter along our section hikes if we can.
Visiting every shelter isn’t actually a bad idea. It’s a great time to take a break. I can put a note in the shelter log too. :-) i’m not sure the Blood 🩸 Mountain shelter is actually haunted, but it makes a good story. :-)
Hey Jon's Dad, K here from K&RO Hiking Happens. Thanks for subscribing to our channel. I gave you a sub as well. I see you have been busy on the AT! I did a day hike over Blood Mountain with my buddy Twitch a few years back and we stopped in at Mountain Crossing. Very cool little supply store. I picked up an AT cap with Blood Mountain on it. You may see me wearing it in some of our videos when we are on the AT. We're currently working our way through Connecticut. I look forward to catching up on your AT adventure.
Yep. Most of the AT is in my backyard - only 6-10 hr drive from home. I hike at least one week per year with some friends. We pick a different section each time. After I retired I decided it might be fun to start creating RUclips videos. I’ve learned a lot! Good luck in the Northeast!
Because Swedish trolls siphon off all of the sunlight they can grab.
@@JamesRobertSmith :) that’s a good explanation, but not the one I heard. :)
Thanks for sharing ,new sub 👍
Thanks for the sub! Let me know if you have any suggestions. I’m always trying to improve the content.
The first time I backpacked the AT (Summer 1973), when I hiked through Tesnatee Gap the original trail shelter was still there, right beside the relatively new Richard Russell Scenic Highway. It was a crude lean-to made of enormous logs. No one used it because the local scumbags were notorious for driving up there in the dark and terrorizing backpackers. (James Dickey wasn't writing in metaphor when he crafted his novel DELIVERANCE.) Cowrock might be my favorite overlook on the GA portion of the AT.
I always recommend that backpackers (especially women) avoid shelters that are near roads. I feel that is the most dangerous place on trails.
Those are when skunks dig up recently deposited box turtle eggs. I've seen them do it. Sometimes they'll actually follow a turtle as she's laying eggs. Box turtles tend to lay one egg at a time. A good way to improve survival of the eggs, unless the female turtle is being followed by a hungry skunk.
I always like seeing turtles on trails. We don’t have them at home. At least, not that we see. Skunks is a good option. Maybe armadillos too. Don’t know.
The digger may have been an armadillo. Georgia does have them. Anyone that says differently can see them on my previous channel. I see you're the WebMaster of this trip! 😂🕸 It definitely looks like an armadillo digging for grubs. They have long claws to dig. The AT is famous for closed paths being blocked off by cut tree limbs. Cool rock marker for Hogpen Gap! It's so much fun to sit in parking lots and chat like that! 😁 The Nasty Gap. 😆 Glad you had fun trail chatting! Beautiful wild azaleas. Great views! How did I miss out on kindergarten cloud day? We need more of that curriculum! Geez, I can't stand people trashing up the woods. CNOC bladders are the best! 💯! Uni was thirsty. Great video! 😁💚👊
As I was reading your comment, my first thought was that they have no armadillos in Georgia. :-) I’ve seen them in Texas and Florida, I think. Not surprised that they make their way as far north as Georgia though.
@@JonsDadHikes I know what you mean! 😄 I've got some tramily that call me "the armadillo whisperer" because I follow them to video! 🤣 I was fascinated to find them in Georgia!

Check out the Colorado trail... it's about 500 miles. There's another one I'm trying to complete in Tennessee to Kentucky.. did the first 110 miles... views, waterfalls, and mines.
Me too. Thanks.
@JonsDadHikes thanks man... 915 👍👍🙏
I love the warmth of my EE gear, but they have the worst customer service I've ever dealt with. Such a shame. To the point where I won't purchase from them again; that's how rotten their customer service is. Cute salamander. Lovely green tunnel for you. That's a nice camp spot. It's so funny to hear you say, "Jon's Dad's Son" instead of just "Jon". 😂 No thorns is awesome! 👊 Uni likes Unicoi. I agree on Mountain Crossings being a bit of a disappointment, too! 😂😆 Don't say it too much though; somebody will squawk! Lol, great video! 😁💚👊
:) At first I didn't understand your comment about Mountain Crossings so I rewatched the video. The major disappointment tomorrow (coming out next Friday) is that Mountain Crossings does NOT have ice cream. Otherwise, it was fine. It is better than some of the hostels I've stay in for sure! It was clean and well-maintained.
@@JonsDadHikes They changed staff since I was there last. I do love how you can buy a pizza and get it cooked for you. I had an extended stay in the Dungeon (their hostel, as they lovingly call it). No ice cream. 😢
Take some video and images at Liss Gap when you get there. I haven't been in many years, but I never forgot it: one of the most beautiful spots I've ever seen.
Will do!
Amazing congratulations
I am so proud of these kids. I’m glad they are focusing on scouting or even sports etc. rather than some of the things people get into nowadays.
Very good information. I enjoyed watching it :) and now subscribed :)
Awesome, thank you! I have two more videos coming out about Kungsleden. The next one will be my plans for next time. I’m making some changes and I’m keeping some things the same. The last one will be a Q&A video. People have submitted lots of questions and suggestions. It was enough to make a video. Thanks for watching!
Congrats on 12 man. Super cool!
It is so humbling to have a young man identify that I have helped them a lot in their goals towards being a grown up man. It is fun to see them in the stores and at their weddings. I always suggest that they name their children either Robert or Roberta. :-)
Very good.. :) Nice nature. I want to go for that hike once :)
Thanks. It is a very beautiful area of the world. You don’t have to hike the whole thing. There are sections that you can easily do in a week. I like to sleep in my tent, but the cabins are an easy day’s from each other, usually. Jag planerar vandra Kungsleden igen nästa sommar. 2025.
10% rule 😂
@@seekingotheropportunities2280 I enjoy telling new scouts about the 10% rule with a straight face. They aren’t sure what to make of it. I have to do it early because they get to know me pretty quickly! :)
