It is much easier on the 98-12 Rangers to unbolt and move the bed up and then back a couple of feet. Six bolts in the bed, electrical connector to the tail lights, unbolt the filler neck, and you got it. Use stacks of lumber to support the bed. A huge bonus with this method is ease of seeing and removing all the tricky connectors to the pump unit. If you have to move the bed by yourself: After bolts are out, put a short piece of 4X4 wood at each corner between bed and frame. Then you can slide two 8' 2X6s under the bed at the tire well, get them as far apart as possible within the fender wheel arch. Then you can prop the 2X6s up on whatever you have...I used two milk crates under each end of each 2X6 (8 total) and from there kept adding scrap pieces of wood until the bed was high enough to roll the truck forward 2 feet to change the fuel pump. Then roll the truck back under the bed when done, lower and bolt on.
Replaced this with the original pump that pumped out 185k miles. This video and your product saved me lots money! It’s cheaper than the OEM part, but I still expect it to last just as long or even longer than the original. Thank you for this!
Is removing the whole bed easier than that ? I will service mine to address the low fuel not being displayed correctly, only when I fill it up to some point. I was wondering what would be the easier way since I will be doing it alone.
Auto Zone rents Fuel Pump Replacement Kit 57160 with a tool to remove and reinstall the lock ring (or collar) that holds the fuel pump in the tank. The Ford factory technical manual lists the torque specification for tightening the lock ring for a 2002 Ford Ranger at 66 lb/ft.
No need to drop the tank. Just unscrew the 6 bolts that holds the bed and move it a foot back just enough to get access to the fuel in-tank pump. Takes about 45 mins instead of disconnecting a bunch of electrical wires and deal with over a dozen very rusty bolts.
For everyone saying remove the bed, bed bolts are made not to reuse once taken out, many people do it but they are spec’d to be one time use, yes you can just buy new bed bolts but it’s your decision
He said to remove fuse 50B, but removed fuse 56A and pointed to fuse 50B on the fuse box diagram. The correct fuse to remove is 56A, bottom right when looking at the fuse box from the drivers side/horizontally.
You should've just removed the bed, I've done it by myself twice, you just gotta take out 6 bolts, disconnect the fuel filler, lift bed over the bumper and slide it back about 2 feet.
Is there anything else at all that would cause all symptoms of a very tired Fuel Pump ?? It's not inertia switch because it will (eventually) still start, already replaced Fuel Filter and even put a New battery to milk more ⏳out of the Fuel Pump.. It's a 2000, the Truck looks like a 2012+ from the Top, but you go underneath and it's a Complete Rust Bucket !! Rear frame is almost gone !! IDK where Ford got the Steel for those years !? So rather than Eating a Rust Buffet I'm gonna go from the top.. I haven't watched a vid yet on that way yet, but any Tips / Secrets are appreciated.. Also will my Rust situation make going from the Top a Nightmare in anyway ?? THANKS !! 🇺🇲
What is the circle piece that's on top where that big line goes what is it called my truck shoot gas back when I put gas in it the only thing I did was replace the fuel pump and the EVAP line that runs on the side of the gas tank
got a 2005 ranger... do not try to pry yellow clip on the line connected to fuel pump! 05 has a different clip style. you will break it! and btw ford wants $400 for the whole line they wouldnt just sell the clip
This is the second video I've seen where the mechanic drops the tank when it's much much easier to remove the bed I don't know of any mechanic that drops the tank on a pickup ???
So I'm thinking about replacing my fuel pump in my ranger because my engine is running too lean. Some friends said it's either the fuel pump or a vacuum leak
It's not too bad. We carry the fuel pump shown in this video on our website. Here's a link to it, if any of our viewers needs to make this repair. goo.gl/l4zL2m
You can remove the bed bolts and raise the bed to access the fuel pump. I raised the bed to change the fuel filler neck and it was quite easy since my bed bolts were not rusted too badly. It's just harder to clean the fuel tank if there's a bunch of debris in it.
Stupid, stupid, stupid. Took me an hour to change mine the other day just by removing the bed. These guys should be ashamed of themselves for posting this video.

That's the hard way! It's much easier to disconnect the light harbess and take off the 6 bolts on the bed. I did mine in 45 minutes.
+R S Thanks for the tip!

@@Flashzinh0 - Much easier.
It's easier this way unless the bed bolts are rusted.
I would just unbolt the bed and move it back a foot or two.
Agreed. More than half of the vid was getting the tank out. Moving the bed would be much faster altho you may need 2 other guys to give you a hand
One question when you take the gas cap off doesn't that release the pressure on the fuel
Did you put a new drive shaft in? I think mine needs one too.... wondering where you got it from

I broke that yellow retainer clip at 5:48 in this video. How do I find that part?

Replaced the same thing today. Thanks for the video support to your products!
Always you have helped me out, thanks ❤️
Why not take the bed back about a foot and a half and replace from the top . Standing over everything

Is there any difference in a reg cab and a x-cab? Because there is in price on your website! Why charge more for an x-cab?

Would it be easier just remove 6 bolts on the bed frame slide it back
Fuck all that. I rather cut through the bed 🤣 but moving the bed is smarter as I read other comments. Fuck I'm lazy

Do a fuel injector on the ranger next please
Pull the bed off ! half the time..
So I'm thinking about replacing my fuel pump in my ranger because my engine is running too lean. Some friends said it's either the fuel pump or a vacuum leak
Did you find out what is was ? I'm in the same boat with my 99 4.0
My stepdads 93 ranger freaks out and you can hear the fuel pump pumping away and the truck wont start untill it quits whining. Ever heard of that?
Broke yellow tab
So why are y’all changing the fuel pump it sounded like it was starting up pretty good
+MegaThunder70 It was starting to fail.
looks like a very expensive job... my tank dosent show how much fuel I have anymore..

@@picklerix6162 About to do Fuel Pump and underneath my 2000 is Rusted Horrifically !! Should I just assume Fuel Neck needs replacing and grab one ??
Why don't you wear safety glasses?
