  • This is a tour of my workshop that I have recently finished converting from a garage to a workshop. I've seen lots of other people do workshop tours and thought this was an ideal opportunity for me to do one. In this video I show the layout of my new workshop and the various tools that I use. I hope you enjoy it.

    Thanks Terry, that really is a great workshop, all your hard work over the last year or two has certainly paid off ! It's nice that it is fairly accessible too, it's easy to enter an arms race of high end gear but if something is good enough for your needs then it's good enough by definition, it's too easy to get dissatisfied watching RUclipsrs with massive high value workshops and think you need the same ! You mention that your Dad was a carpenter, what does he make of your workspace, I feel sure he must be impressed and also pleased that you are practical and creative too !

      Yeah dad seems to like it, but he doesn’t get over to my workshop much, but he is always impressed with my projects though, so he must have taught me something 😂. your right about top end tools, I’d love some festool tools and a saw stop but can’t justify it, I’m currently looking a jack planes and thinking do I really need a veritas or Lie Nelson, when the Stanley sweetheart will do.

    Hi Terry, Wow!! your workshop looks great and full of good accessories and tools and good lay out. It has come on well from when you were boarding the walls and fitting the electrics. Good workshop lighting from the LED panels. I agree with a good solid workbench and when I build my Island workbench next spring, I will be using 4"x 4" or 10 cm x 10 cm as legs I will be using fence posts as legs and a full sheet of ply about 8'x 4' or 2.4 m X 1.2 m as the work top. Look forward to your next video
    As always a great video, Take care

      Hi Shaun, As always, thank you for taking the time to comment. Believe it or not but those 4x4 legs were really cheap, they were offcuts from our local timber merchants. They often have pieces that size which they can’t sell so worth checking with your Local timber yard mate.

      @@Terrythemaker Hi Terry, thanks for the tip we got a few timber merchants near me, the fence posts were from my parents home back in the summer me and my brothers replaced a few 7 ft fence post as the were nearly rotten so I' have cut the rot off and the rest of the posts are solid.
      catch you soon

    Hi Terry I think the router jig and how you use it deserves its own video 👍🏼

    Great to see a tour of the workshop, looks great. Why are concrete floors in the UK always so bad? I self leveled mine and finished with second hand carpet tiles, I have to say it's really nice to work on.

    Awesome, how do you keep it so tidy 😂

      @Terrythemaker  2 месяца назад

      Hi Barry, it’s not always that tidy, you should see it at the moment. It’s in a bit of a mess 😂, but to be fair, I’m just like that with everything, I can’t function unless everything is neat and tidy, it’s probably some form of OCD 😂

    What’s the brand of sharping system is that you have. I don’t think you said the name of it in the video. Looks like exactly what i need to get for the shop just wanted to know how many pennies i need to save up.

      @@Chipswoodworking Hi, its the Robert Sorby Pro Edge, its a UK based company, but they must ship, its about £400 to £500 here in the UK and it’s an amazing piece of kit, I’m just about to have a look and sub to your channel 👍🏼

    Great tour thank you. Curious why the second drill press base? (I’ve got the same drill).

    • @Terrythemaker
      @Terrythemaker  2 месяца назад +1

      Someone else asked me that the other day. when we was in lockdown the drill broke and BOSCH asked me to return just the head unit, rather than the whole thing so they could repair it. They didn’t repair it and sent me back a whole new drill hence now having two bases and I can’t bring myself to throw it away, it’s very handy on long pieces of timber because I can rest it on both 👍🏼bases

      @@Terrythemakeryou’ve got me interested in a camvac to replace my wet/dry vac. Does that cope with fine dust (saws) equally as well as bigger ‘chips’ from the thicknesser?

    • @Terrythemaker
      @Terrythemaker  2 месяца назад

      @ Hi Chris I use mine on the lathe when sanding because that produces very fine dust when I’m sanding to 400/600 grit , I also use it on my thicknesser with big chips and it copes well, I love mine, as I say i went back and bought another one, I recommend the 2 motor model though, you might be able to see it working on some my earlier Woodturning videos
