Thanks for making this video. I just finished and wanted to point out that on my job (2016 Cherokee Trailhawk) there is absolutely no way to get the alternator out without dropping the engine down on the right side by removing the motor mount bolts and having a jack under the oil pan. Even then it barely has enough room. Luckily the replacement alternator was a tad smaller than the stock one so it went in easier. Also, It helped a lot to remove the radiator bolts and angle the top of the radiator towards the front of the car by a few inches. This allowed me to actually get the top alternator bolts from the top without specialty tools. All in this was about a 7 hour job for me and I have a lift and experience working on cars. Not for the faint of heart.

Few things to add.. keep plenty of money around for the swear jar.. the air tube bolted to the unibody you can reach around between fog light and bumper cover to get to the nut retaining it, 2 bolts on top of alternator you can get most of the way out with a thin handled 1/4 in ratchet, after ac is unbolted you have to pull it down some it does not just fall down. Also putting alt back in the top 2 bolts will keep falling out. Its hard to hold alt up into place and start top bolts. When top two bolts fall out check in-between fan and radiator they love to fall in there. As someone else said can just remove under car cover by 3 or 4 bolts under the alt and bend it back. Getting to the alternator is easy, R&R it is hard part.

Thanks for the video! Our 2014 is doing some funky stuff. At idle the voltage is fluctuating from 12 to 14. The dash cut out and came back today. My wife has noticed the lights dimming and coming back at night. While driving the voltage stays locked at 14. Seems like it's time for an alternator, got 102k miles outa it.

Gonna assume the alternator fixed this issue? Mine's in a similar position, will randomly die when I come to a stop. Someties dies completely and need a jump.

I agree with @Justin Sowards, wear gloves. This vehicle will eat your hands for lunch. I replaced the coils and plugs in mine a few days ago (vid on my channel) and after I was done I had more chunks of flesh missing from my hands than in the past 7 months of working on the Vette.

Not positive on getting it from the top. All data showes thru the side also for faster times. Im sure if you remove more stuff out of the way you could get to it

@@coreelsteward4814 Yes. I did this on a 3.2 Latitude yesterday. You do not need to mess with the AC lines. His method as described worked well for me, even though the job itself sucks. Only recommendation is you don't need to take the entire cover off on the bottom, I just removed three screws closest to the wheel well and bent it out of the way. Otherwise, he's pretty spot on. Also, I do recommend gloves, my hand got ate up by the fan shroud.

I am having my Alternator done in a shop, I took 1 look and was like "fuck that". now that i see the process. glad i choose to pay the 2.5hours to have it done by someone else. I have also heard the Alternators in these 3.2L are junk and are a common issue on all Cherokees. hences the reason a new Alternator from Chrysler runs about $700 CAD
