I'm sure folks love their roof-top-tents and Skottle grills; but the ground tents, bivvy bags, and old-skool Coleman stoves in this vid are what resonate with me.
99.998% of RTTs go unused, and drive to wallmart and McDonald's for any kind of adventure. Edit- ive had my old mans spring-bar tent, for decades,.. up or take down in minutes...i love the thing
I grew up in Nevada (live in West Yellowstone Montana now), my dad was a geologist out of Ely and Eureka Nevada. Back in the 80s he’d drive out in the middle of nowhere (where you’re at in this video) with a 1979 F250 with huge dual fuel tanks and extra gas to boot, hauling a drill in his bed to take core samples looking for mineral deposits. I used to go out with him once in a while. That is very pretty territory, Nevada’s beauty is underestimated. This is one of the best videos you’ve done in quite a while.
The off road trailers and the super cool racks and roof top tents are really awesome. But it’s so cool to see getting out there without some of the real fancy stuff and still explore. Thank you very much for the video!
Lincoln County. Delamar town site at it’s time was the largest city in NV. It had French restaurants, doctors, a processing mill, and of course many many saloons and a red light district. The fact that there is no water at that site added to its demise. Water was piped from the Kane Springs Valley up and over the Mt to the town site. This was obviously not sustainable.
That’s a great lesson learned on the windshield washer fluid Brad! Also, a good point on weather conditions if you used just water. It is the little things that are just as important!! Thanks
Just outstanding! so glad I found this channel and I'm not even a camping guy. lol!!! such high quality...can't imagine how many times you had these guys reverse and redo!
I absolutely love NV ! It's a whole other world out there for sure. Thanks for this video Brad, makes me want to plan another trip out that way ! Anyone reading this not from the southwest, the desert is very forbidding, always go over-prepared. Cheers all !
NICE!!! I've been following for years, ever since your XJ build that I loved so much I practically copied it. Happy to see you enjoy our neck of the desert. I'm a 5th generation Nevadan in Vegas and have been hunting and riding around these areas since I was a kid. My dad and I go riding nearly every weekend in our XJ, CJ5 or most of the time in our Can Am X3's. One of my favorite rides recently is start in Alamo, take Alamo Canyon and stop by Delamar Ghost town and then head over to Rainbow Canyon and take the Pennsylvania Canyon trail all the way to Caliente. Its an amazing ride with lots of incredible views. Also tons of off the grid trails and old school camping done along the Utah/NV border from Beaver Dam all the way to Panaca. Some of the biggest Mule deer bucks in the country in this area as well. Just fun times!!
I drove to Delmar with my 2WD Ford Expedition. It's a pretty easy one to get to. I recently picked up a Jeep TJ which should be able to get us to.some of the tougher ones. The one thing I'm worried about is running out of fuel so I carry 5 gallons of fuel just in case. Nevada has a lot of old cabins and mine operations that are very well preserved, but they are high up in the mountains and require a few miles of walking in. The most badass 4x4 isn't going to make it to the truly remote and well preserved ones. Awesome video guys as always.
Getting through that dodgey snow with off camber and a cliff would've been great content. And the spaghetti topped off the trip, now I need to cook some with red wine.
Great trip! This is what I love about watching your channel, just getting out there. Even better is when you're with a good group that knows where they're going...you just get to enjoy!
Great one! Lotta work, hiking way around to get shots of the Jeeps breaking snow without having your footprints in it. I'd explode a lung doing that much hiking in rough, snowy terrain. LOL
This is one of my favorite videos. I wish if you can make a video about how to clean your jeep after a muddy trails that would be interesting to watch.
I stumbled upon this video and am so impressed! I don’t know anything about jeeps or overlanding but I’m on a mission to find someone who will take me and teach me. Maybe one day I’ll have one of these beautiful rigs.
Really enjoined the array of shots, one of the favorites a higher angle approaching the stone structures. I liked the mix of Vlogging and story telling. Can’t quite put my finger on it, but this ranks one of my favorite stores you’ve told. Well done Brad.
Brad, I have to say you are getting very good with the money shots. As expressed at 15:56. Awesome! This has been one of my favorite videos that you have produced primarily because I'm a native of Nevada and the places you explored are all my memories growing up. I get the impression the trip went on well beyond what's in the video. All familiar territory of my youth. I love the jeeping with the just the basics. Made me wish I was there. I could feel it. Thank you for your upbeat presentation. You've been very inspirational.
Hey neighbor! I hollered at you a few months back one early morning as you were getting ready to head out on a trip. Your story telling, script writing, emotion, cinematography, and use of visuals is something I could use at work (I run the creative group of 25 for a military drone manufacturer here in the area). If you ever decide you want to take your skills down that road, hit me up. I am beyond impressed. Massive kudos to you.
this had to be such an amazing trip (minus the mud, I feel about that like you do brad LOL) 15:57 this is a money shot Brad. your footage and editing is always topnotch!
A full road trip with awesome challenges, good friends and amazing scenery. Not to mention an incredible score - Biddy Sullivan goes very well with this trip.

Great time of the year due to mild temperatures. The hot summer days can be unbearable. Unfortunately daylight is limited which is challenging when it comes to setting up a proper camp.
I knew I was going to love this video. It looks like you all had a blast and i bet those guys have some great stories after riding together for so long. Also, as much as I love all the cool trailers and all the other fancy stuff, I relate more to just going out with your tents, sleeping bags and just regular old camping stove as that is how we adventure. Thanks for another great video.
I love that you were in my backyard exploring Nevada!! Delamar is super cool to explore and just a taste of what this huge state has to offer. In fact we leave the big city of Las Vegas every chance we get 😉
I always carry a couple of smaller bottles of isopropyl alcohol in the car when traveling in cold locations. If you can’t find windshield washer fluid for freezing temps, or if you have to use water, you can always pour some alcohol in there and it will prevent it from freezing
Awesome footage..akways a pleasure to watchyoue videos. Dod you a little teary eyed as you were talking about being thankful for the invite? ... it's quite impressive how you guys ran into so much snow in Nevada ...
One tip about many small railroad towns is that if they are towns where the trains stop, for fuel, for crew, or what ever, there is often a restaurant in town that is open 24 hours, seven days a week. The food is more stick to the ribs style than anything else. The railroad will actually subsidize these places to keep them afloat so their trains crews can take a break.
Hey Brad, You did an episode a little while back with your son out camping. I think you were doing steaks, you used a rub from Trader Joe’s BBQ Rub with Coffee. We tried it on some BBQ’ed boneless pork chops, it was really good. Thanks for the idea, keep up the good work and keep those idea’s coming… Thanks Jeff
Looks like an awesome trip with many things to explore. I know you talked about being prepared on the trail. Watching the video, I know one thing you are glad NOT to have on the trail. One of those EPA compliant gas cans. Think about how difficult it would be to put that fuel into your vehicle with one of those!
Hey Brad, great video. The fuel pickup in your tank draws fuel from the bottom through a "sock" that acts like a screen, so I wouldn't worry about sediment. Besides, it's a closed system so I don't know how sediment could get in there unless you get a bad tank of gas. And if that happens you'll have other problems to deal with.
I spent a lot of time exploring the desert when I lived in Nevada. Miss all the open land. Have to drive way too far to get anything similar in western Oregon.
I appreciate you including the footage of Jim's decision to turn around on the sketchy snow covered off camber section of the trail. It sure looked like sliding off the side was very likely, and thus a wise decision not to push it, particularly at night, as Jim pointed out. Looks like an awesome trip. I'm curious how often you estimate that having 39's over say 35's is needed when overlanding?
Brad you’re killing me… I’m stuck in Costa Rica trying to get my JK fixed after some tourist hit me on a mountain road…. I miss Jeep’n and camping with my friends!!! Good times! I’ll try and keep my head up here….

This is exactly why I LOVE living in this neck of the woods. There is so much out there and you can find a slice of solitude.
Few states have more remote uninhabited land than Nevada.
Agreed
Yeah, let's keep it this way!
Always happy to see Nevada get some love. I know it's not as pretty as Utah, but I like it just the same.
The NV/UT border is beautiful 👍
Actually I think each has its own unique beauty. Utah is definitely more mountainous but Nevada has more public land and it’s fair share of mountains.
@@ramoneortiz Nevada is actually the most mountainous state in the US

Jim seems so down to earth and knowledgeable. I just drove down to HB to pick up my ProRock 44. Can’t wait to get it installed.

Trips like this are exactly why I would want the Ecodiesel. The mileage, in my opinion, makes up for the DEF inconvenience.
I wanted the diesel as well but living in the desert I was scared of the overheating I read about. I ordered the 3.6 and should be here any day
I wonder how the 392 would do on a trip like that
