This is so cool! PLEASE make follow-up videos of this project so we can watch it progress through the whole journey. This was such an entertaining video!
I'd love to watch a series of these to completion. It was actually great to see you point out your mistakes as it helps us other plebs maybe make better choices. :)
Its a cool idea. Vamps are my favorite. Personally I would have put all the big trees in the far background like the castle is in the artwork. Their scale makes them too uncanny to be in the foreground. Then add more zombies, so it looks like the flood of death in the picture.
Looks great! I think that you might want to consider removing the larger tree that is directly behind the model from your ideal perspective. I think that the hard silhouette of the vampire and the wolf shouldn't be too cluttered from the main angle of the main shot, but I love how dynamic they make the rest of the scene. I would instead add a little more elevation and add even more zombies, and really drive home the idea that it is a shambling horde! Keep up the great work!
Fantastic, I really hope you finish this through the painting process. Just a tiny bit of cc, I think you should redo the head of the vampire, maybe use an elf head and sculpt the hair if need be. Oh and maybe a few more zombies, skellies and ghouls.
I'd love to see a continuation of this, it was also good hearing your highs and lows when doing this because it's something that can happen to everyone. It seems like excitement got just far enough ahead that you forgot about something which is always good to admit, hope to see more of this diorama Great Video Jon :)
PLEASE make this into a series. One of the things that I think you do best is explaining your mental process through a project or paint job. It makes your work far more real than other makers that present a video where everything is perfect and there's no creative process involved.
Watching artists/content creators make mistakes or decisions they wish they'd done differently is invaluable. When people who we all assume "know what they're doing" admit to screwing up, we all learn from it. For that, I salute you!
Looking really good! I personally would have tried to have the bannerman behind the Vampire just to give them some background behind them to contrast against. As it is right now, raised above the rest of the piece it will be contrasted against open sky, which you don't have. I suppose it's possible to put a painting there, but the banner would be a more permanent option, PLUS the bannerman is typically always beside the lord commander for reference in battle. I like the trees in the piece, but I do wonder at why there would be some cobbled path leading to a small outcrop of rocks that then has land all around it. It maybe needs some cobbles below it too, to show that the land is riven in some way, by dark powers, perhaps. In any case, this will look amazing when it is painted up, I'm sure
Yes. We want to see each step get did. Night Shift is one of my favorite YT channels. And he does builds, then preshading, then weathering, then scenic bases, all as separate videos. It's good stuff.
A multi-part series is for sure the best solution man! An episode for any different element would be great! And... be quick at slaying that fancy various scale of grey!
Seeing where things go wrong and how to course correct is so valuable. That is 99% of amateur stuff. Figuring out how to get to the thing you see Pros do it. So please keep this up.
Dioramas are something I would love to do more of, because they help us find something we don't normally think about with a lot of miniature wargames: a fun reason to try new art things. We get to a point where we have all the tools and skills to turn a model from bits of plastic into a tabletop quality army, sure, but when you mentioned the "Ideal viewing angle" and debating how true to the inspiration you wanted to be, that is exciting new ground. Would love to see more.
I'd love to see more videos like this. There is so much more story telling in a diorama than just a single figure. It would be great to see you combine all your talents in kitbashing, painting and diorama building to create a small battle scene between two factions with some custom models. I understand that's probably 10 videos worth of work, so the juice might not be worth the squeeze, but I also believe folks would flock to something so unique. I appreciate that even as you grow as a channel you keep making real, craft forward videos and not just gimmicky bullshit like 'I hired this fivr guy to paint something'. You're a real one.
Yes! Please show us the rest of the process - dioramas can be really intimidating to get into, seeing the ins and outs and ups and downs can seriously reduce that!
Yeah I definitely want to see more, I love the scale of this diorama. I think you are right about lifting the vampire up a little more, the art work uses the presence of her to show she's what you should be focusing on and I think you are going to have to do that with only light and color because she doesn't take up 30% of the viewing space like she does in the artwork. I'm super excited to see how far you can take this
Normally I skip through videos to just see the end result, however when it comes to your videos, I seem to actually have an attention span. You do a wonderful job with these videos, keep it up.👍
I'm a DnD DM who stumbled on your channel and have really enjoyed it. But this whole process you're describing speaks to me, it's the exact same process I use when making a map for my game. Love the content.
You can't stop here. I want to give up so often just before the final step, it's often not until then that things finally come together and look right. Keep on working and trying out new things. Don't give up!
I would love to see your "Road to my first Demon" as long as you dont rush it. Although it might be good to have a video series that makes you actaully finish the piece for GD! Keep up the amazing vids man!
I really appreciate these videos. They're helping to take my mind off stuff. My dog passed away on the weekend and having Ninjon playing in the background is giving me something to focus on. Great stuff as always!
You really need to follow this series! Personally, I like the additions to the diorama, it's hard to make a 1 to 1 translation from illustration to diorama. When it is just one model, it's definitely easier, but with multiple models, it gets harder. But I'll say that I feel like this diorama would really benefit from more zombies and skeletons. Like they should be "crowding" the scene, and be somewhat underpainted so they dont steal so much attention from the vampire, but I really think the scene should be a bit more crowded to give that "horde" atmosphere. Kind of trying to get that "The Last Light" vibe from Roman Lapatt.
Would love to watch more of this. Have you considered adding zombies and skeletons coming out of the ground? I think it would add to the horde effect, while not obscuring the view of the vampire.
I wasn't sure this was going to work until after the trees were added. You really get the sense the skeletons are matching into the scene from a long column of soldiers. So cool. Please make the followup!
I really like the multiple bits of bark, just that bit of effort make it look so much better than the single piece of bark or layered cork that you see everywhere
This project already looks excellent, and I for one would like to see it continue. Maybe not have quite as many neon signs as Daryll would like, but there needs to be some Frank Frazetta prints on that wall. Oh the diorama. Yes please, moar of this- I've always enjoyed your style on these projects, as you reflect on them and say "I'd have maybe done X differently", and that humility and capacity to learn is a big factor in why I watch this channel.
The reason I love this video is that it feels a bit more raw and kinda throws away the perfectionism you see online so often. This means you tend to explain things in ways that make more sense to me and give more actionable advice. I HIGHLY recommend that you show your failures as that is THE NUMBER ONE best way for us to all learn - its nearly more important that showing us what does work (Not saying this was a failure btw, the diorama looks great) So please do a follow up! Love your work
Yeah. Your inputs are always welcome. You should show mote videos on creating themed bases. It help give a different view of how to approach a project. And the different tools are good to see too.
I would love to see how you highlight the lead vampire to make her stand out more than everything else. It is much easier to do in a 2D artwork, so to see the technique you use would be great. If I had to guess: bright colours vs muted/desaturated colours?
These dioramas that creators are making and filming are giving me the confidence to at least think I might be able to make one too. I just have to try to realize how many hours will go into it. My trouble usually stems from impatience. I'm a pretty decent painter and have art fundamentals down pretty well but I tend to rush on everything I do.
Any and all content and advice that you create and provide is always far more appreciated than you can ever know, and more than I have the humble gratitude to receive.
Well done! I'd love to see follow ups to this, or a series dedicated to this. You've always been great at finding an interesting topic in whatever the subject material is. So, I definitely have confidence it'd be awesome!
I can't wait to see more of this project! I hope you end up finding a solution for the face. That stoic, determined look on her face really sets the tone for the illustration and I'd love to see the piece retain that!
This is such a beautiful diorama. Can't wait to see the follow up videos where you finish and paint it! If I may give my opinion, I feel like the tree with the grinning face (and the rock as a base for the roots) creates "too much" symmetry with the other big tree. Maybe replacing it with more zombies to create that hord feeling and use the other one with the bats to create some point of verticality, by lining up the bats in an ascending cloud going to where the previous tree is right now. In my mind this would really frame the vampire. I hope you don't mind my 2 cents, ever way I'm all in for this serie! Love your work!
Good to hear your anguish in the build phase - I get this just painting basic minis! One idea would be to place larger, taller, gnarled trees lining the width of the back edge of the diorama - to create the effect of emerging from a dark forest (replacing the ominous castle in the original artwork). Great job 👍
I love watching videos like this yes because miniature diaramas are the best. I would love to see this in completion after all it's like my ASMR and I enjoy every moment.
in Bonsai, we call the "ideal viewing angle", the "front" of the tree. The angle that you view the tree from that catches all features the best. Can learn a lot from bonsai and how it applies to miniatures!
3:51 another quick tip. If your plinth is painted instead of cast resin (which this is I believe), it's a good idea to remove some of the glue from the painters tape by sticking it to a another surface like your table, to make it less likely paint will come off. Have done this recently and the paint was undamaged with the this method, while before I damaged the paintjob (of the plinth) by using fresh tape.
I think follow up videos on anything that you are working on is a no brainer. You do amazing work and to deny us seeing the final product is a crime against humanity. 🤣
For me I am more interested in seeing you building dioramas, than you painting them. There are many video's about painting, but not that many about building this kind of stuff, so if you can and like to, please do more.
As some what of a diorama enthusiast myself 😅😅😅. Honestly trying to stick to artwork for a diorama its DEFINITELY best to use that artwork as a suggestion, and I love how you followed that freedom and feeling to lead it in your own direction. Fantastic work as always really looking forward to this being finished 😊. Dioramas are such a freeing expression of this hobby for myself and every time I see another creator and one I love to watch especially create one I just get so excited 😆
I really like what you came up with. Cant wait to see it fully painted up. I would've gone with more verticality though. Really heighten the pedestal she's on. And I think completely covering the ground with zombies, like to the point of not even seeing the ground anymore. Probably have a more circular than oval shape too. I love the idea behind this. It'd be great to adopt it for a D&D Strahd thing.
YES! It looks amazing and I want to see the rest of your progress with this diorama! I''ve been wanting to make a diorama, so seeing your process is inspirational!
This is so cool! PLEASE make follow-up videos of this project so we can watch it progress through the whole journey. This was such an entertaining video!
Absolutely
Agreed. Definitely want to see you finish it . . . with your brother's help.
Yes, please please do!
Yes one of his best!
Agreed!
I'd love to watch a series of these to completion. It was actually great to see you point out your mistakes as it helps us other plebs maybe make better choices. :)

This is easily one of the best channels on RUclips, my dude.

I absolutely 100% want to see the follow-up to this video, this diorama is turning out amazing!

The opening of that clamshell packaging is perhaps the most insane thing I've ever seen.
Want to watch ALL OF IT! Many a army display board fabrication we've done have run into similar stop gaps and hurdles. Way to overcome them!
A multi-part series is for sure the best solution man! An episode for any different element would be great! And... be quick at slaying that fancy various scale of grey!
I like multi part series so this is actually quite exciting for me
Seeing where things go wrong and how to course correct is so valuable. That is 99% of amateur stuff. Figuring out how to get to the thing you see Pros do it. So please keep this up.
Yes. More please. Really interested in seeing how this finishes out.
Yes, continue this series. Don't care how long / how many vids, I am in for it.
Dioramas are something I would love to do more of, because they help us find something we don't normally think about with a lot of miniature wargames: a fun reason to try new art things. I love how you show to your audience that even the legends commit errors. And it's always experiences to learn from to make us better!
Vampires, zombies, learning from your mistakes - what’s not to love? Really looking forward to seeing this develop!
I'd love to see more videos like this. There is so much more story telling in a diorama than just a single figure. I agree, those Epic Basing bits are a godsend! I use them for a lot of my basing.

Make it a long-running series.
Need to see this one completed, and I would love to see other artwork replicated in diorama format.
I would love to see your "Road to my first Demon" as long as you dont rush it. Although it might be good to have a video series that makes you actaully finish the piece for GD! Keep up the amazing vids man!
Please, please, please do a series on finishing this diorama!! This is super cool and would love to see the process and finished piece!
I really appreciate these videos. They're helping to take my mind off stuff. My dog passed away on the weekend and having Ninjon playing in the background is giving me something to focus on. Great stuff as always!
Yes! Please do more on this. I'm dying to see how on Earth you paint all the surfaces of this minis and get between everything.

I think you could get 2-3 more videos out of this project. I can't wait to see it.

You have to do a follow up video!!! We've seen the beginning of this beauty and need the closure of seeing it complete in all its glory....please.
I love watching videos like this yes because miniature diaramas are the best. I would love to see this in completion after all it's like my ASMR and I enjoy every moment.
I need this and more dioramas
We need to see it finished. Please :D please make a follow up and making this a series would also be amazing.
Would LOVE to see an update on this! Dioramas are my favorite part of the hobby. More diorama content!!
Please continue with this series! I want to see how it turns out.

This is, without any doubt, the coolest and most unique content of your channel
I would love to see this finished! Slay the gray and paint more minis!
Welcome back Darryl! It's been a while, we missed you
I would really enjoy seeing the progress of this diorama. But end of the day it's up to you!
Please do keep making videos on this project Jon, it looks great so far and your vids are easily my favorite on youtube.
Yes! Show us the progress as you complete it! Don't be a tease and leave us with Grey plastic that hasn't been Slayed!
Can't stop now, we must see this to the finish.
Definitely, it would be good to see the whole journey of the piece!
Yes, please. Looking forward to seeing where you take this diorama.
Yes, Jon. We obviously want to see more.
I think follow up videos on anything that you are working on is a no brainer. You do amazing work and to deny us seeing the final product is a crime against humanity. 🤣
Yes! Please! Paint it up!!!!
If you move the wolf up next to the main vampire , it would look more close to the painting and it looks awesome !
Totally would like to see a series on this diorama!

I feel like we need a full video by Darrel at some point
Yeah dude, keep it coming. I love thematic mini displays. Brings extra life to the miniatures
I really like what you came up with. Cant wait to see it fully painted up. I would've gone with more verticality though. Really heighten the pedestal she's on. Go on Jon! Make us enjoy this whole project
YES! Please finish this piece.
YES! It looks amazing and I want to see the rest of your progress with this diorama!
I''ve been wanting to make a diorama, so seeing your process is inspirational!
Yes, follow up series, please.
Watching Jim Davis while painting, good choice !
I would love to see this journey continued!
Please continue with this process through additional videos!
Defiantly need the year round Christmas lights, and yes I would love to see where this project goes, looks cool.
Oh god yes please, I NEED to see this finished.
I really enjoyed seeing your thought process including the mistakes, pivots & adjustments you made. Can't wait to watch the follow-up!
I really like seeing your whole process, warts and all, it's much easier to learn from it that way, at least for me.
More videos like this man. You unpack composition theory really well
