You are so right......I never knock Seger for getting old or commercial or whatever you wanna call it....but his early stuff......not only is it his best, like most bands and musicians.....but it's how true Detroiters fell in love with his early genius. I never want to hear Turn The Page again......just because classic rock stations burned it out long ago....why do they NEVER play his early stuff ??? It's a crime.
This is Bob WAY before he went commercial.......not knocking him, but he was truly the SHIT before selling out commercially for radio. GREAT STUFF ! Thanx for sharing !
He didn't sellout, he did it for nine years, he can't help it if The listening public are morons. And I wouldn't call Night moves and live bullet commercial junk.
The best two dollars I ever spent was in 1972 to see Bob Seger at The Armory in Columbus, Mississippi. To this day it's one of the best shows I have ever seen. Detroit sound babeeee!!
The Firehouse in Toledo........had to be 72 as well....was still Bob Seger System......LOTS of great Motor City bands came down to our little town......what a time
Thanks for all these Bob Segar ups. As a Michigan native, and as an audience member that saw him play the majority of these old tunes, live. I want everyone to know that Michigan and it's young people were considered to be the coolest, hippest, hippies there were. Even now, in my sixties, I see long haired, red-eyed, acid washed, genuine hippies everywhere I go. This is our state, and we know the dream lives on! Solidarity ! Like this !
I still think his early stuff is his best.. before he went national.. his 1st song, East Side Story, is still my favorite.. also check out 2+2, Lucifer, Interveious Eyes, Persecution Smith, and Back in 72.. Bob used to really rock.. before he took everything to Glen Fry to see if it was good enough.. no surprise because the Eagles never rocked.. they were a glorified country band(altho a great one) that hid behind a wild guitar solo to do a country song.. listen to the song James Dean again and you will see what I am talking about.. it’s a country song hidden behind a great rock guitar solo
Listening, loving, remembering! All those summertime concerts at Pine Knob with Kelly and the gang!!! Good old DETROIT ROCK N ROLL 💜❣Many thanks to Bob Seger and the Silver Bullet Band😙
I was born (1962) and raised in Detroit. My first concert was KISS and Seger August 2,1976 in Indianapolis at the Market Square Arena. Family and friends drove from Detroit to see KISS. Seger was the opening band. In 1986 I met Bob Seger at Detroit Metro Airport where I had just started working for an airline. I walked up to Bob who was sitting in a chair reading the newspaper as he waited for his flight to ( MQT ) Marquette,Michigan and said Hi Bob great to see you ,can I have your autograph ?! He didn’t even look up at me and said Yeah ,why don’t you bring all your fucking friends over here. My jaw it the floor and I turned and walked away. I was thinking to myself I’m a Detroiter and a huge fan. Detroit and Metro Detroit areas got Bob going big time as an iconic rock star. I still enjoy his music 🎶🎵🎶 but what a shitty attitude.
He was freaking awesome when I paid $2.50 to see him in concert @ Allen Park Civic Arena, near Ann Arbor, right about a year before he released Beautiful Loser....rocked that little auditorium down!!
Bob Seger he's pretty cool met him a few times I grew up in Ann Arbor Michigan that's where Bob Seger comes from I played drums in a band called Salem witchcraft Detroit audiences are the greatest rock and roll audiences in the world like Bob Seger says s*** I've known that for ten years😎✌🌍⭐🍄
madelefant05 yeah thanks for remembering us yeah you're right we played all over Michigan but one of my favorite places playing was Harpo's that bar in Detroit that big one hey watch it though you let your age be known LOL😎👍✌
Ra Rishikavi Raghudas yeah you probably did we played all over Michigan we played at all the bars when were the good old days when rock and roll was appreciated thanks for remembering us it shows your true rock and roll or😎👍✌

I saw him at a hot rod show in Cleveland with teegarden and vanwinckle was a great show ,can,t fault him for finding his formula but this old stuff was better.
I 1st saw Seger in Traverse City in 1966, bought my 1st 45 rpm from the band East Side Story / Sound. Have seen him may time since. Great Show, Great Guy, and Great Talent.
This could possibly be from an all day concert at the Cinncinnati Reds stadium. This picture was in the jacket of the Mongrel album, which included a live version og River Deep Mountain High. Bob and the boys jammed the heck out of that tune, including some awesome drumming from Pep Perrine.
You hit the street, you feel them staring You know they hate you you can feel their eyes a glarin' Because you're different, because you're free Because you're everything deep down they wish they could be [Chorus:] You're lookin back (lookin back) they're lookin back (lookin back) Too many people lookin back You're lookin back (lookin back) they're lookin back (lookin back) Too many people lookin back They watch the news, see young men dying They watch them bleedin' and listen to them lyin' And if they're normal if they can see They just reach out and change the channel on the TV

This pic is from a Park in Davison,MI i think it was called Sherwood or something like that..he bought HIDEAWAY records 4 years ago and regained all of the old demo's and scratch tapes but he will not release them..wish he would.
Bob and the Silver bullet band did this the best thanks to Muscle shoals. Muscle shoals helped made many of Segars songs better than the studio versions.
Even though it's not HD, I've listened to every version and this one sounds the best although there is some distortion around 1:46 that you hear intermittently. But Bob's vocals are the best on this cut, I think.

You read my MIND, Brother. "Looking Back" was similar-themed...and, Better.
Detroit Sound >>> Corporate Springsteen
(And, the "Borneo Band" from 1973/1974, was waaaay better than the SBB.)
Couldn’t agree more.

Two Bad you couldn't buy a reusable ticket-lol. This one is kind of dated-with the Vietnam references.
Saw him in 78 in Seattle and i agree, best concert i ever attended.
Saw him Lakeview high School

I met Bob sometime around 94/5 at Webber's Inn in Ann Arbor. He talked to us for nearly a half hour and bought us a round. Super nice guy.

He has lots of songs before 1970. We just had him all to ourselves in Michigan

Another MOTOWN master....and the hits just keep COMMING.. ..
This is the single best tribute to vintage Seger that the Silver Bullet Band ever performed.
rockchick: THANKS for putting this up! It's been almost impossible to find early Seger
Bob was a much better singer when he was young , he lost a little FUNK when he got older . love his first songs
i disagree, jis pipes are the same the passion may be different.. the hunger
greggjohns63 While his entire catalog is amazing, I too have a preference for the edginess of the BS System days up to about the Back in '72 period.
Still rings true, the music and the words
Damn, that's good music.
Yeah! Bob Seger . Detroit. Enough said!
The Seger I will always love Best...garage band Seger ♥️
This song was my very first 45 rpm. record! Groovy!

More relevant in 2024 than it was 50 years ago. You'd think we'd learn sooner or later.
This music is fantastic real rock.
Rock and Roll Ann Arbor Bob Seger

Ah ..... Real Rock & Roll!
So many great bands played Sherwood Forest during the early 70's Wild Wednesdays and Super Sundays. All the great Michigan bands.
+Frank Boyce Saw Ronnie, Sammy and Bob..... MICHIGAN MONSTER!
+Texasapathy Michigan was the rock and roll capital!!! Never be the same today. But I still rock on, saw them all too! Still go to DTE{Pine Knob}
I love all bob seger songs ❤❤
Love it, nobody has your sound Bob Seger.
But, unfortunately, that husky voice is the result of decades of 2 PPD cigarette smoking
Proverbs 4:18 The light is getting brighter and brighter as the day draws nearer. Going forward is where the answer is. Looking back keeps us stagnate and wrong.
Thanks for Posting this! Its Swesome and I remember it (looking Back) and Heavy Music and 2+2 and Lucy Blues (I owed that early album)

Lots of Bass on first 3 albums. His voice getting stronger as well as the lyrics.
RED WHITE AND BLUE NECK
You hit the street, you feel them staring
You know they hate you you can feel their eyes a glarin'
Because you're different, because you're free
Because you're everything deep down they wish they could be
[Chorus:]
You're lookin back (lookin back) they're lookin back (lookin back)
Too many people lookin back
You're lookin back (lookin back) they're lookin back (lookin back)
Too many people lookin back
They watch the news, see young men dying
They watch them bleedin' and listen to them lyin'
And if they're normal if they can see
They just reach out and change the channel on the TV
