If it’s white on the inside, perfectly edible. They are just yummy. We usually peal them first. Then cooor fry or grill. Gary oil adds goo flavor too.
I'm absolutely fascinated with the fact that you talk like a TV presenter even when you're just hanging out! I thought it was like a way of speaking that presenters only used when presenting! I'm also totally jealous because it is a way of speaking that I think, commands respect as you sound really knowledgeable!
Excuse me Lisa luminaire maddie moate IS a tv presenter
This is so cool!! I have always wanted to find something wild and cook it up! Awesome video! - Liam
Hi Maddie..can i just say my kids love your show on cbeebies. My boy James loves watching your show its so nice to see a program that actually explains how things are desiged and work, and done so in a way that is appropriate to the age of the audience, without being condescending. Keep up the good work, its a refreshment for us all.
I thought 'why do I recognise use this lady?'. Just realised my child watches you on TV!
I haven't come across puffball yet but apprently, fry in butter until soft, let cool. Then dip in whisked egg, bread crumbs then back into the fining pan. Sounds great and look forward to trying it myself!
I love these nature inspired vlogs.
You can also grow your own mushrooms in the form of a kit.
That puffball was massive! I'll bet it tasted great with sage!
My dad dries puffball mushrooms in a paper bag over the Aga for ages then uses them in soups and broths
We've done something similar, finding a load of rutabagas in a farmers field and cooking some! Great vid
JTL cool
Great video, I could not stop laughing at your mild hesitation. keep it up!
I'm glad we can both agree bounty is the best kitchen roll
You're my new favourite youtuber, hope you get 1 million subscribers!
The last giant puffball mushroom I saw was a bit bigger than that, but I have never actually eaten one, yet, although I have eaten the cap of a Parasol (Macrolepiota procera) mushroom once before which I fried and soaked in breadcrumbs, butter and a little black pepper which was good.
I am always cautious when it comes to foraging for edible fungi (as you said to be cautious) after reading a story about a man who had picked edible ones for years and knew well which ones were fine to eat and were not, until one day he fed one to his son and he got sick and found out that he had not found one of the edible mushrooms he always looked for, but found a similar looking, mildly toxic one. His son recovered, but its ways its good to be careful.
ooh yum, sounds good.
Aloha Maddie! My daughter (Madison, 8) loves your channel and is requesting if you could do an episode on “How does seaweed grow?”. Hope you’re well and staying safe! Mahalo!
You are so entertaining and clever, even in the context of a spur-of-the-moment vlog like this! Delightful.
Love puff balls. Used to find them while camping. Best thing to do with them is cut them in half, hollow them out and use them as edible bowls. If you find one in good condition they taste really good raw.
We have those in the states. I have never tried one but the you cooked it up I might have to now.
Thanks for sharing breakfast with us Maddie. So awesome. Hope you have a great day. Bless you until we see you again.
When I was a child I was told that these grow when people chuck Bread Crusts on the ground! I believed this till I was 9 years old when I told my teacher and she laughed.
My father told me. I even tried growing one by stuffing bread crusts in my nans prize house plants for which I got into trouble! I was about 7 at the time and I stuffed crusts from 2 slices in her Coleus Plant Pots. :)
You're completely nuts for eating that you know? ! I love it !
What’s nuts about it ,you can’t mistake them and eating wild food is standard practice in the countryside
OMG...maddie just added me to her "circle" (whatever that means)....i feel so special!!
That's because you are friendless and dull in real life. Congrats!
Basically, we see no dislikes on your channel because it's just AWESOME! And I hope it stays like this. Maddie you are an awesome you tuber, and I'm glad that I'm subscribed to your channel, Thanks for all the videos and helpful cooking lessons. :)
Cool video, Maddie!
Great video, Maddie!
Loving the 80s style outro music...very Beveley Hills Cop
I never even thought a mushroom that big would exist or that something so big would rely on roots that short! What'll be next? I hope the upcoming ones will be amazing to watch as well =)
It actually has a ton of very thin roots as well but those are severed when you pick it and are hard to see anyway. Mycelium I think they're called.
I never wash mushrooms, they are like a sponge, if you wash them they fill with water instead of taking on the taste of garlic or herbs or whatever you fry them with. I usually just brush them thoroughly with a soft brush.
Good point, a mushroom THAT size you could wash the outside without it penetrating too far I am sure. Most people aren't working with mushrooms that large.
looks very tasty!!!!
🍄🍄🍄
You look so beautiful in this vlog Maddie :)
As a fully grown man, I confess that I may have squealed a little bit when I saw those dogs.
Hello im from 6 years later😁
You can also freeze the giant bovist cut into slices with the skin on. The taste and consistency are better preserved with the skin.
I will say that (in name) the first thing I thought of when I saw this video title was the book James and the Giant Peach, which I assume was more even popular in its native UK than over here
Made me nervous, but had faith you had done your research.
That was a huge mushroom! Great video Maddie! Congrats on 4500 subscribers!!
Just found ur channel. Watched a few videos and totally subscribed. Very funny, interesting and edifyingly.
I find this very funny =)) i was just smiling the whole time. sharing my legal edible mushrooms experience, the ones I like to eat are the one that grows from banana leaves. Those are delicious. But that mushroom is big!! I wonder if this is your new place, I remember you mentioned that you are moving to a new place. Looks very nice :D
I love this episode
I remember these being in the Harry Potter PS1 games! They would explode when you threw them at trolls to make them sneeze. I didn't know they were based off a real thing!
That's because you were uneducated! At least you rectified this fact 6 years ago, hopefully you're still pushing the boundaries of your intellect!
I enjoy all your videos
@1:25 you are an absolute charm ... and arguably, yes, you need to know what mushrooms, it's rare people still know much about that, things massive, personally never seen one so large
Cdddgrg bewdhdwgkvegvUffgfsethdrsxybdtc. Y
Maddie your dogs are so cute!!!
I ate part of one yesterday - sliced it lengthways into 1cm width pieces, rubbed it with garlic, sprinkled rosemary on it (I believe fresh sprigs would be better), doused it in lots of olive oil and fried it for 3 or 4 minutes per side - *delicious*!
But it was too big! I had two large slices, each as big as a slice of (commercial) bread.
I tried to make a soup out of the other 80% ... not great. The flesh remains like foam and is fairly bland.
love your videos.
..and your accent
I love them
Maddie Moate this is awesome
Every time I watch this this makes me so hungry
I wouldn't rinse it since it would soak up all the water, and not in a good way.
Very cool mushroom! BTW, it's best to dry fry the mushroom first in a hot dry frypan in order to remove a lot of it's moisture. This will improve the texture. Frying it in butter will definitely improve the taste. You might consider some fresh garlic too. I accidentally poisoned myself with some mushrooms I found growing in my yard. I had taken what I thought were Chanterelles to the president of the local mycology club to make sure they were true Chanterelles. Unfortunately they turned out to be False Chanterelles and caused me to have the WORST STOMACH ACHE I'VE EVER HAD IN MY LIFE! It was a very long and rough night. There aren't any mushrooms that look like Puffball Mushrooms which are fakes, so if you find a Puffball, just be sure to look for a nice, bright white flesh and that there are no worms inside. They can be cut like steaks and grilled on a barbeque as well!
Your from “Do You Know” on CBeebies 😁😁😁
😱😱 maddie swore!! (Very quietly) sorry it's just I have never heard you do that before 😅😅😂💝
Childhood!
This is really, really nice! I'm an adult watching this, but if kids can find it, you're not infantilizing them.
That actually looks rather appetising. How long does it take for the fruiting body to grow?
I tried to eat a mushroom but then my uncle walked by as I was about to eat it and knocked it on the floor it broke and black gas came out turns out it was toxic thanks uncle noel 👌🤜🤛🙏🙏🙏
It is the spores that the mushroom let out to the wind to carry it to someplace else(the gas)
think those mushrooms grow in Denmark aswell Maddie?
I just love your videos, very informative and funny, totally diferent from every channel i have ever seen.
Where is that location that you are or where living in the video? Very beautifull.
"A BRAIN!!!" LOL
ive never come across one of these in my area in kent. is this hampshire way?
Lol Maddie, how do you even know what it's like to cut into a brain?! Hahaha
Woah! Thats so cool! Was it just by the side of a river? Great vids, keep them up please!!!
Yep, just hanging out by the river!
Even if I knew that it was safe I'd still be too scared to eat it!
Same
What???????
You do quite a lot of things before breakfast. Thanks for making me feel lazy.
Miss Maddie, Did you manage to weigh it by any chance before you cooked it?
I just found your youtube channel. My name is Alex. I have a youtube channel as well. you are just amazing!!!. I hope you have a safe and happy 2019.
Delicious 😍
You're dramatic but i love it 😍
the scream that you made was weird but also cute at the same time!!
It looks amazing where you live! What area of the UK is it?
Suffolk, East of England :-)
Maddie Moate
I'm from Norfolk so we must be enemies lol
Maddie Moate Ahh no way! I'm from Cornwall and pretty much write-off the rest of the country. I feel ashamed of myself.
Now I'm curious, did it went well? You didn't get sick or anything?
No not at all, it was genuinely really good, just tasted like a very strong mushroom!
Oh that's good to hear! It did look rather tasty :-)
OMG!! I think I have a bit of a crush :)
I think those are called hyphae, not roots.
So what did the mushroom taste of Maddie? There are some near my parents house, next to a river and am really curious!
It was a meaty mushroomy taste? lol
Cool! Will have to give it a go!
Hiiii!!
I am 8years old thank you.
it’s a giant mushroom
MAYBE ITS FRIENDLY
I saw a really tiny one I think bofore smaller than a penny
what type of dogs are they??
Maybe it's friendly!
How do you know what cutting a BRAIN feels like 😂
Hahaffneei3hwjjggsyruax86epwvx8eib9c
It’s a giant... mushroom! Maybe it’s friendly!!
Ahhh, lets pick random fungi and eat it, that makes me nervous. As an American, I have never heard the phrase 'dippy eggs', also whenever you say herbs, it reminds me of that eddie izzard joke. "you say 'erbs, we say herbs, because there is a fuckin' h in it"
oh yeess. wow
Ytrreegqfhmjhvwdjhtwjbffdhkhvfguyyttgbhyygsey9iwwfbhfu
