Till sings: "... zum zweiten Mal entkommst Du mir!". /"The second time you are escaping me." Escape is closer to the real text than "slip away".

@@mroscher101 I don't believe that he killed her. I think that the first time she escaped him is when she died. The second is when the day comes and he can't dig her grave up again because he will probably get caught. That's why "by day I long for the night"

Red Rooster in Germany is a nickname for fire. "They had the red rooster on the roof." "Their house burned down." Sometimes also for arsonist, fire raiser.
I assume she killed herself and that's how she escape from him for the first time. I assume he held her captive while she was alive and abused her physically or mentally and at some point she dared to kill herself. Now he tries to find her and she eludes him for the second time because there is nothing left of her that makes him so angry.
The fence, impaled on the fence = cage, captivity, chained to himself
The Red Rooster = Fire, Possession
The fear pinned to the fence = abuse, intimidation
Of course, it can also be meant metaphotically and with death only the end of a relationship is meant and with the decaying corpse the dead relationship and he still stalks her but nothing is left of the relationship.

One of my favourite Rammstein' songs. Love it - the lyrics, the music, the whole composition with up and downs. Just brilliant. And imho, Till wrote the deepest, the most mysterious and beautiful texts in the early stages of Rammstein's history.

The rooster once having been her heart has always made me think him chopping it's head off symbolizes him going further than simple grief out of love and into necrophilia, as he brutalizes the still alive, loving heart, regardless of it calling the morning, so calling him to stop. The lyrics are eerie either way.

Hi you. The song is about necrophilia. So disturbing and beautiful lyrics at the same time. Here's a more precise translation of the lyrics. The others already explained the symbols in their comments.
    Marry me
Man sees him sneaking around the church he has been alone for a year The sadness took all his senses sleeps by her stone every night There by the bells a stone sleeps and I alone can read it and on the fence the red rooster was your heart in its time The fear impaled on this fence I now go digging every night to see what's left from the face that made me laugh I'll spend the night there by the bells there between snails a lonely animal I run after the night during the day for the second time you escape
    me marry me (4x)
I dig deep with my hands to find what i've been missing and as the moon in its most beautiful dress kissed your cold mouth I take you tenderly in my arms but your skin tears like paper and parts fall off you for the second time you escape me I'll spend the night there by the bells there between snails a lonely animal I run after the night during the day for the second time you escape
    me marry me (8x)
So I'll take what's left the night is hot and we are naked to curse the rooster greets the morning I chopped off his head
I really appreciate your effort to dig deeper into Rammstein, than just consuming their awesome music. Kudos. With love from Germany 🤘 😎

  • @Masi154

the "you slip away from me" part is not ment physically, its only in the translation. In german its more like "you escape from me". And in my opinion its the second time because she said "no" (to merry him). Thats when she escaped him for the first time....but this is more open to interpretation I dont claim to be 100 % right on this one.

I think your right they werent married..i think he was possibly obsessed with her and IMO either one of two things happened..he was obsessed but truly loved her and meant her no harm but she didn't really like him or was that serious so whenever he would ask her to marry him she would either say no or not ready..etc. Then possibly one day he had something special planned and then he finds out that she died so of course he goes crazy and thats why he's digging her body up and still saying marry me...the other scenerio is pretty much the same except out of anger and frustration he's the one who kills her and then goes crazy after he relializes what hes done...which are both really sad..

i love that song. it is one of my favorite Rammstein songs. I cannot imagine that this great song is lesser known. I hope that you are wrong in this case. You said, that you don't really get: "For the second time you slip away from me" (which should be translated as "For the second time you escape me". That is whatTill is REALLY singing!) means that the first time was her death, and the second time is that her remains are falling apart and (she is) slipping through his fingers. But i am not really sure, that she was already his wife, because he wants her to marry him. That indicates that they were not married before, because if you are already married, you don't have to marry again. Maybe she is not only a former girlfriend instead of his wife, but only just a girl he longed to have as a girlfriend, but never had. Or second theory: She was his girlfriend and killed herself. That was her first escape, before her decomposing body escapes him the second time.

    • @citycobra5014
      @citycobra5014 2 года назад

After seeing this again, it must have been his former girlfried, because the lyrics say: "Seit einem Jahr ist er allein" (For one year now he is alone) and "Die Trauer nahm ihm alle Sinne" (The grief took away all his sanity). That indicates that they were together, but as i wrote before when you were already married, you needn't to ask to be married again. So i guess that she was (only) his girlfriend when she died.

I know it sounds grotesque but it made me think that perhaps with the "second chance" when he digs up her body/remains by "marry me" he is insinuating a "consummation" (as in to have sexual intercourse) of the relationship or in his now irrational mind a 'marriage' of sorts, as in to have sex with the corpse

I think that he never had her. He wanted to bind her to him by trying to marry her, like it was used to be, that a man kind of conquers a woman. The second time she slips away by disapearing/decaying after he used the other method of force to bind her to him, which was murdering her. She always slipped away from him and he got obsessive about her. Thats my take. The red rooster, i dont get,. A red rooster stands for fire, is he also an arsonist? But why chop the head off? Red rooster in Germany is also the symbol of the evangelist student movement, so did he forsake god? But i think that is too far fetched. Maybe the Red Rooster is symbol for his rival in love. Rooster as a in a cock fight make sense, but why red?

I wondered if it was a reference to morning, as in the sunrise, and in the countryside usually around that time also the very loud "cock-a-doodle-doo" heralding the new day as the sun comes up. Could the sun be the fire? if the sun, the daylight, daytime is brought about by the call of the cockerel (also idk if "cock" and the equivalent whatever it is in German has same or similar meanings as in English?) by killing the cockerel and decapitating it, it cannot herald the new day and bring the fire and light of the sun, so in his senseless irrational illogical mind, he has prevented the new day from coming, to stay in the night?
