Wow Jonathan well done. The talk re swim, trauma, counciling and then the progress made and how proud every one is of you was legitimately a tear jerker. This wholesome and wholistic content, I think ultimately is what keeps me coming back to the podcast time and time again. A few training and performance ideas along the way is just the icing on top.
"I won Land Park on aluminum training wheels..." Mic drop, Ivy out! I love that b/c most announce equipment as reason for loss. Bro, you did not lose b/c of your ride. Thanks for another great podcast
we have to assume if a rider is worried about a few grams theyve pretty much exhausted the more obvious gains. and i dont get how anyone can dismiss marginal gains, saying its only a few watts, or a few grams, or its only a few seconds? guess what they add up. and anyone can go out full aero vs convention kit to see a real difference, or ride a heavy 20lb bike vs a 14lb bike on a hilly circuit. so why do an aero suit but not aero socks, or an aero frame but shallow wheels, if you go that route you gotta do it all. same with weight, you may only save 20 grams here or 1 lb for a lighter set of wheels but that weight adds up to be significant.
This one took me back to the eighties when I did the newly triathlon thing and even my family thought I was nuts. It was so crazy to contemplate back then. I eventually finished three Ironman tri's in a row and then unfortunately burned out. Took me 20 years too buy a new bike (mtb now). The interim years were not wasted as became a skydiver and then a pilot. These days I am enjoying the childhood exuberance of riding out in the bush and hill's with the freedom of not having to rely on gasoline 😅. Thanks again for the awesome podcasts as I am still learning everyday👏 👍✌🐺
I often try and guess my HR based on my RPE when riding, so I can stay TUNED in with my body. Basically riding along and based on how I feel, guess my HR and then look at my head unit. I can typically come very close. Doing this often can help you stay in tune with your efforts...and then if you don't have a power meter (say on another bike) it helps alot!
This has been my absolute favorite episode so far because you discussed mental health on a really accessible level, and I wish more people did this. Thanks for being really helpful role models 😊❤
The recovery section was really good.. Thank you.. Need to really understand this aspect to cycling as a 51yr type 1 diabetic.. I found myself in a overtrained hole that was absolutely horrible..
This was a great podcast. I enjoyed the whole thing, tri talk and all. It’s interesting and helpful when you delve into listeners’ training history as context to answer their questions.
This was the episode I needed. The first 30 minutes summed up my struggles. I had the same thoughts as Maria. Did a ride/race that starts with a 4 mile climb that just crushed my motivation. I questioned my training plan. Hannah had so many great points that resonated with me. Back to TR Clinton workout and faith in the process. Thanks team.
Congrats, Jonathan! I think TR should do a "Coach Jonathan's Road to Kona" series :-) Honestly, I'm guessing your CdA could be much better. Without improving anything else, besides that and T1, you'd already be on your way to the pointy end of the AG. Add those 40 watts back, and you're on the podium. Well done, loving the TR triathlon chat.
Interesting to watch this now. Hannah definitely applied the lessons she learned early in the season, trusted her training and nailed Leadville. Inspirational. 👍
Nate accidentally doing a prescription 8-ball on the show was hilarious. Took me back to watching 'Up in Smoke" as a teenager. Thanks for that, and really loved y'alls riff on the recoveryIceCream sundaes. Also really enjoyed the pacing and strategizing towards attaining a flow state discussions, too. Thanks much for all the laughs and insights!
I could really care less about all the medications Nate is on or what kind of ice cream he eats. I wonder what kind of ice cream and meds Chad likes? Shocker! He never wasted time telling us.
I have to say about motivation for an aging athlete is I use the finish in the 25% rule. Finishing in the top 25% in an over all finish that helps with getting you super close to podiums but you are battling in the race.

Biggest gain you can have in performance is to DO THE WORK. (so yeah TR and stick to the plan including rest weeks)
Guys and gals you are amazing🤩👍🏼
Is there a link to the calender discussed?
Who's this Keegan fella I keep hearing about on here.

Congratulations Johnathon! 🥳 Don’t feel bad talking about your race, it’s so valuable and entertaining to hear! Thanks!
The recovery section was really good.. Thank you..

Maria, most likely your struggle at the first hill was most likely not you training but you didn’t warm up properly 😊
Nate what moisturizer do you use. Your skin looks amazing ? Besides retinol ;)…

Question Z2 all the time, power or HR. Power is a unit HR is a human measurement

Personal Bests are what you should aim for not placings.
Recovery from training is key in all preparation.
Nate if you start a business to do that ice cream recovery pops, I will buy into it. Sounds like a hit, and should are come down to marketing.
25:29 "You're not racing to win." I need to remember this, especially in long races...
Really enjoying you guys providing feedback on TR accounts following questions. Keep it up!

Great job Jonathan. Very few things to work on for your next one. Your planning & preparation were awesome - a great example to all of us.
Uff you guys sat there non-stop for over 2 hours? Kudos!
Absolutely brilliant Jonathan! What a result!👊🏾🎉
Oh yeah, quick question, I tried to find Jonathan's spreadsheet in the forum but no luck...which topic is it under? 🤔
yeah i was looking for it too...no luck either

Hannah always talking about herself..zzzzzzzzz
If wining is the only way for you to have fun then you should not be racing. Set your goal to beat your personal best.
Sorry, can’t buy in to Hannah or the Scottish lady delivering content. Doesn’t quite work compared to the other crew
