It's almost unreal how he can play at such speeds and STILL have so much accuracy, not to mention the fact that he's improvising!! I loved the base improvs that begin at 0:29 . Simply amazing.
You're right. Tom is better than a piano roll. Isn't there also a few videos of Tom taking one incomplete and vague sheet of music and turning into an 15 minute ragtime composition on the spot?
@Chris246t8kr There are so many levels to appreciate Tom's playing/skill set. SO glad you are enjoying. ALso among the first vid's i did a year ago, was Tom Playing Larisa's "The Purple Chicken Rag. I brought the sheets and asked him to play. Never saw music before although he probably heard her play it? This was the last tune he played that evening.........He finished it and said , "I am done". And he MEANS it too............Thanks . VBR
My aunt who taught me to play piano used a Fake Book and went off on 5'2". "Look, this is all you have to do." Oh, yeah, sure. Easy for you to say, you who have played piano for 60 years. I'd been playing for 1 year! Never did get that thing down.
@idasynco Yes he us unbelievable. Recorded in a coffee house 40 miles from my house.......THis was after a music show earlier at another location. Banjo player from a Jazz band and didn't know Ragtime so the binder on the piano was the chord sheet of his and Tom played HIS music so he could join in.....You can see what Tom does with several of the Video's recorded that eve.........Thanks for commenting KJ...
