Don't be too hard on yourself Andy, I'm sure the race is still in your legs and you've been fighting off a lurgy.
Your in great shape, an easier week next week will see you come good for your goal 10k 👍

That’s a very hard session after running a 10k, not surprised you didn’t feel at your best. Just try and rest up before your target race and you will probably surprise yourself

Listening to your commentary, I think you already know the answers to your questions but the vlog is a great way of bashing those ideas out. Whether you call them matches burned, or spoons, sounds like with the sore throat and going deep at Frampton, you went a bit more into your energy than you'd planned. No need to panic though, your strength will come through again.

Yeah, I often use these training vlogs as a bit of a sounding board…. I know inside what’s wrong but I often need to say the words out loud to accept what I’m saying, if that makes sense? Feeling fresher today so all being well I’ll have a smaller week this week and sharpen up

Andy, I'm really enjoying your post marathon journey. I'm struggling to find any form over 5k or 10k and this is giving me inspiration!
Good luck at the Saucony 10k, looking forward to seeing how you get on!!!

@@TheFODRunner absolutely. I've got no speed and just died in the 5k this Wednesday. 16.58, I've done Parkruns quicker this year!

I assume some type of taper is called for for a 10k? Or is that just for the longer distances? Will you be dialing it back some this week?

I will indeed buddy, one small session and that’s it, lower mileage too

Post virus and a flat out 10k and you're seeming surprised you're not on top form?! You're being too hard on yourself mate!

Yeah I knew the race was most of the issue…. And I’m using to feeling a bit flat on sessions post race… but this one I honestly felt particularly off, legs shaking in the strides like I’d had an adrenaline surge, it was very odd! Feeling better now though, hopefully over it 👊

Why this obsession with timing everything? Even the warmup is "on the watch". Why can't you just be satisfied with putting in the effort and accepting that training performances will be up and down, especially for those runners who live in the real world -ie jobs, families etc. The only judge of fitness is race performance - and even then time is only one measure of success - and not the most important. Beating people is what the sport is all about.

I do accept that Mark... I am however allowed to question how or why I may or may not feel good/bad that day... don't we all? I appreciate it may not be how you do things... and as runners go, especially in races, I think I run much more to "feel" than many others... all my lap splits are off and I race to feel, so I often get no live data bar the odd HR update. Not to mention that fact that I dont even look at my watch on my easy days, I just use it to track how long i've been out there for, as well as the moderate days! But I can appreciate that the snippet of the week you all see is the session so judgements will be made based on that....
