- FINALLY I got around to attempting this.
I've been wanting to do this for ages, but haven't quite gotten myself into the shape to try.
I gave it a shot and let me tell you, that pace is no joke! Respect!

R.I.P Kiptum
Tragic. Such talent.
Watched this after Reading about Kiptum. So tragic 😢
Of the thousands of running videos I've watched, one of THE best ever! Wow!
Speed kills. You could only manage 1 mile - less than 4% of the marathon - as a result of having increased your best marathon pace by about 16%. May I ask, were you surprised? Or maybe you're surprised that we're so surprised.
Just did the maths, and I could just about run 100 meters at Kipchoge pace.
It’s 17 seconds per 100m. He did that 422 times without a break 🤯
@@justalilbester, he's repping my 800 meters 52.8 times.😨. Thats crazy
Show off 😂😂
How this pace was done for a marathon is insane!
Awesome content Nick 👍
Awesome run
Well done
I lasted 20 seconds on the treadmill at London Excel 2023, when I collected my marathon number
That’s not a bat effort. Love that machine at London marathon expo. It’s so smooth 👌🏻
@@justalilbester
Thanks
This year , I hope I am better if it is there.
Keep posting the useful videos.
Brilliant video Nick!
Thanks speedy 🤙🏻
Even at that pace, it doesn’t look labored for you. Excellent.
Thanks 🙌🏻 now to try work on holding it a bit longer.
Incredible! At my fittest, maybe I could hang on for 800m, but right now, I bet 400m or less. Can't imagine doing a whole mile!
If your doing 800m you can hang in for the km!
Smashed it
That´s a very nice treadmill
Aussie explaining the stat's! Awesome
Ah yes, Aussie physio Luke is awesome and knows his stuff
Great video Nicky B! I watched it twice 😂.
Instead of giving it another watch, you should have given it a go!! 👊🏻🤣
I was knackered just watching 😂.
You make it look so easy. Running is funny. Looks so easy until you try it. Well done on p1 today at Dulwich. The world is waiting for you sub 2:20👊👊
Thanks Fizz. Giving it all I’ve got to get there 👊🏻
Great video Nick 👏 when you trained for 4 years to get down from 25mins to sub 17 what type of training did you do initially? Was it building a huge endurance base over a year?
I wish I had your running form! Slightly disappointed that this wasn't in Battersea Park. I think the wind resistance outdoors might be significant at that pace even on a still day.
Yeah I agree, it'll definitely be harder outdoors. Okay next time I try it, I'll do it at Battersea park and try hang in for 2 minutes.
@@justalilbester im not sure, as far as i am aware records are faster on track and road than treadmill, unless no one actually tries to set shorter distance records on the treadmill, i know they have ultra distance records. You looked super smooth, good luck with the rest of your running ventures this year,
I will give it a go in a couple months time. Probably between 4 and 5mins judging by best 1km and 1m times. But back in 2001 I tried gebresaise 22kmh for something like 2mins
I am not sure if I can even accelerate to this pace, never mind sustaining it over a certain distance!
wow, you had a great progress coming from 25min for 5k
i did my first run (17.1k with absolutely no training) in 73 min, but was not able to improve as much as you.
but i was only 15.5 years old back then. at the age of 17 i did 10miles in 55:38 min and then retired. 😶
i don't think i could have become a 2:20 marathoner even if i had continued.
What’s your thoughts on training on a tread for the majority of your runs? I’m in an extremely cold area. The winters are snow and ice. So I train on my tread mostly during these months.
I do most of my speedwork on a treadmill as well during winter to avoid ice. As long as you keep a 0.5-1% incline on it, I think it's decent compared to outdoors. I'm nowhere near as fast as he is, so I'dbe curious to see if the opinion is shared, but still, aiming for 2h48 in the spring
Very well said. So in those conditions you need to train on a treadmill. It’s your only option. It can be a great training tool. When conditions get better outside then try do the bulk of your running outside as ultimately races are on road.
Hi nick, how many kilograms do you weight ? my adios 3 are completely out after 200 km, I'm weighting 83 kg. Not sure that they can hold a complete marathon. Thanks
Hey mate, I weigh 76kgs at the moment. They should definitely be able to handle a lot more than that 🙌🏻
Thank you, time for me to lose some weight @@justalilbester
Amazing! Kipchoge and Kiptum make it look too easy
Nick, my main focus is the 2 mile run. 3200m. What would the ideal ""long run"" be to build the most endurance and mitocondria for the 2 miler?? Thanks
It’s definitely worth getting a track coach. But for that distance a LR is still quite important. Perhaps anything form 10 - 20k
I can do it for about 2min30sec but i'm only 16 so there is a lot of time to improve. Nice video nick
At 35 you’ll hold it for 1:59:40. Keen training champ 👊🏻
@@justalilbester haha maybe, we will see😂😂
Can appreciate the speed once you step off... The machine is on overdrive
Would ketone IQ be good to take for an all out max effort 2mile race?? (3200m) thanks nick
Yes. I’m a big fan! It keeps you sharp and doesn’t drop you.
if you factor in the wind resistance...
I did a 400 in 1:06, could not go under his pace for much longer though
That’s still solid for a 400 🔥 not many can do that. Well done!!
Would like to know your stride length on this test.
It will be in the gait report somewhere. I’ll have a check
I think kipchoge cadence was about 186, yours is 197, so it is more relax to him and that could also make kipchoge last longer(?)
188 is you all time max hr?
I'm 28 and my max hr was 193 on my 5k pb (20:45) last month, and the whole last k my hr was above 190.
I understand you're just 2 or 3 years older than me, but also i guess max hr depends on more than age.
I’m 34, but yeah it’s very person specific. My HR low is around 35/36 and my max is slightly lower than others.
I thought your 5k pace was around 2:50?
Yea my 5k PB pace is 2:55, but there’s actually quite a big difference between 2:50 and 2:55.
This is about 69s per lap, my 400m PB would probably be 75s, so I could maybe keep up with him for 200m.
Before watching this, already you can keep up to Eliud Kipchoge pace for about 5km Nick. Remember you have a sub 15 minutes 5k
Well my 5k PB pace is 2:55, he did this marathon at 2:50. 5 seconds doesn't sound like much but there's a BIG difference :) 5k goals right there!
I've heard that 1% treadmill think before but have never been able to get any actual science behind it so I ignore. There is also so much variation between treadmills...I never get close to my road training pace on a treadmill and also never get close to my race pace in training so I reckon you have a few more miles at that pace in you 😂
I can barely hold his pace when doing 400m intervalls and even then only for one or two laps. This is completly incomprehensible for me.
I find treadmill harder than outdoor cant maintain high speed on treadmills
just helping you with algorithm. I think i could run around 300-350 meters at that pace.
I think you could have in for 400m, 1 lap of the track in 68 seconds 🙌🏻
@justalilbester ha, that's nice of you to say. The fastest mile I have ever run on a treadmill was 4:54 but that was close to 20 years ago. Keep it up Nick, I think you will run sub 2:17 marathon before it's all said and done at your very peak. Best wishes.
I could maybe hit the pace. As in physically reach it. Maybe possibly. Maintain it at all? Questionable
Crazy that you made this about 2 months ago and Kiptum died 2 months ago... it must have happened shortly after this video :(
Ive got 1km in the tank
i think i could do 800m
Soon it will be Kiptum Pace
Sub 2 at Rotterdam?
@@justalilbestersub 1
why dont you train to run it for 3 miles o r8km then you can run in the world cross country champs
I think i could do 1 minute realistically 😂
