I see a lot of people talking about how they dropped the rifles...rifles are very hard to do, and I'm saying that as a person who has done color guard for years
this show was amazing live. they were in 5th place i believe and jumped all the way to 2nd place, beating caramel. i remember being in the front row screaming for them 😄 and then seeing them in the hotel celebrating
It’s easier said than done :) I think this show looks easy because it wasn’t very intense emotionally, but if you compare it to a more upbeat show it might seem more difficult to an inexperienced person
Ricardo Padilla One time we were doing rifles and I was making a toss and i didn’t catch it correctly so it landed it my eye and it looked as if I was punched:/
You can tell that they hired a professional dancer to train them to move the way they did. I've never seen a high school guard with that much grace, flexibility, and talent. Makes me jealous that the guard at my high school is shit lol.
That's just their team at the time. Herbert Washington the director at the time is just that much dance based. He did Pride of Cincinnati and lead his own independent group for a few years.
@@faye3642 this is winter guard, though. Many guard teams are based in flag spinning, saber and rifle work. There is a dance element, but these are not dance teams.
Enby Bee this year we we’re supposed to have 13 I think but now guard has been canceled :(. Also this is kind of random but your profile picture makes me happy, my friend uses the same photo on his Instagram
Watching them leave the floor was always funny, because a dad would run up to the girl they poured oil on and immediately let her blow her nose, and then they'd wrap her in a towel and throw her in a rolling trash can .
I bet they do that to prevent the oil from dripping onto the floor. A few years ago my guard got a TEN point penalty for leaving glitter on the floor after their performance on finals night.
Wow. This is incredible for a high school. Way to display your talented dancers, strong rifle work, flag tosses were so in sync... choreo was amazing. Rifle work was outstanding, my heart broke for those drops, but hey, we're all human and anyone with eyes can see that this routine took work, dedication, and hours and hours of practice. These kids put in WORK. Absolutely LOVE the large pump prop/rifle toss choreo. Great demonstration of timing and strength! I just can't say enough good things. Be proud of yourselves, because everything, down to costuming and makeup, are ABSOLUTELY breathtaking. Bravo!!
Hey guys. It’s understandable that this is WGI and it’s an intense circuit but these are HIGHSCHOOLERS. Give them a break. Honestly their work was very fluid and entertaining and honestly I can’t to half the crap they just did rn. So props to them.
this is amazing, dont get me wrong, but it also makes me feel really bad about myself because i know i can never reach this level of ability. also, these kids are lucky that they have such a good colorguard program.
Etzeren I got pissed just looking at it! Lol i get mad at myself when I mess up but when someone else sabotages my show I will blow up 😡😅 and this is world championships! Even more pissed! Lol
I would be mad too she just messed up her whole sequence and her timing when she was doing consecutive on a rifle, which aren’t easy when your timing is off
The girl spinning sabotaged herself bc she was in the wrong drill and didn’t fix it, I feel bad she messed up at world championships but she really did it to herself. I know this bc I have friends who were in this season
I was at this competition as a viewer and I actually sat towards the front so I got to watch this show and all of our guard thought there was so much going on at once but this was one of my favorite of the shows.
Brittany Kurtz they area world guard and are at wgi world championships you have to point out the little mistakes or no one would win shows her love for guard noticing all them tbh shows she's good and knows what to look for
Well I know they're a world guard, I competed against them in HS, and performed in DCI and WGI so I know exactly what she means, however, does that mean that we all sit here and point out the little things that went wrong? No. We focus on the here and now and forget what we did in the past. That's a different season, you've had an entire year to improve.
Kinda hard not to. I mean, I'm happy for them that they are coming back to the top. I don't mean to sons offensive, bc this is well designed. But to beat Carmel with this run? just no, unless Carmel completely fell apart.
Avon's performances were always my favorite every time they were at a competition with my school's colorguard. They're always so captivating and beautiful, and they move with such grace. I knew they were good since they almost always got top three in competitions, but I never knew they went to world championships! It's cool knowing a school from my state got to the finals.
I do color gaurd in my high school and there is only a mere 8 of us. Anytime someone asked what extra curricular I do I tell them that and they look at me like a sad puppy. These girls are so lucky that they have a school staff and students that’s support them not all of us have that. Fingers crossed my team places at competition 🤪🤞🏻
That rifle line... ouch. A few drops and most of the catches weren't solid at all. Pretty show, though. I hope these kids know how lucky they are to be attending a high school that is able to afford such an elite staff.
SayYesToAwesome he was't being sour. Or salty. He was just saying that they're very fortunate because most guards don't have these funds and they don't have much to fundraise with or just don't fundraise often, is all. Not trying to start a flame war though. I come in peace
I love how beautifully the flags represent the show. With the silks in the beginning that look like oil spilled over water, and the ones near the end that look like the cracked earth after mining . They just set the mood so well.
Their work on the equipment is so elegant and graceful!! For those wondering about the riffle mishaps, those pieces of equipment are kind of difficult to grasp, you’re supposed to hold them tilted that way the audience views them as straight and they’re literally huge chunks of wood. I know their hands probably hurt a LOT on some practice days judging by home many girls are on the riffle
Most of y’all dont understand how hard rifle is... practice doesnt make perfect it makes consistency. You’re obviously not going to catch 100% of your tosses, and sadly for them it was at this time. They already know they dropped, stop calling them out.
That’s just the way this activity is especially when competing at a world class level. The expectations are set so high and there is little room for mistakes. But I agree with you 100%. Performing in world class finals is nerve racking and probably the reason there were so many drops. No need to point all of them out

i don’t wanna hear shit in the comments abt them dropping the rifles. rifle is HARD and the fact that they had enough courage and confidence to do it in front of people like that- i could never and i’m literally in colorgaurd right now.
And on top of that, dropping or catching a rifle doesn’t even equate to skill level 😭 like yes it shows you’re good if you do intricate catches, like solid up and down, or catching a 7 backhanded, but drops are GOING to happen. It’s just like hiccuping, we get hiccups because they happen, it doesn’t mean we’re bad at breathing! 😭
My school is broke tbh but all the competitions for colorguard this year was super fun I was nervous until I got on the field know how great it would be. I dropped or messed up a few times but it was fun.Though band camp was a pain in the back all the blood, sweat, tears, and (almost) broken bones was all worth knowing we got first place twice! I'm so happy to be with my school,I love them all very much.
Small world, I saw some WG things showing up on my fb feed and decided to search 'wgi 2016' on RUclips to see what was up in the wgi world these days. Jenna Leigh's Beauty Slam it’s happened to our guard we were about to go out on the field and we heard these people say “I can’t wait to see them do flips” it honestly made me laugh but yes it does happen
im going into my 3rd year of color guard, yall need to understand that rifle is so much more difficult. a rifle is smaller than a flag but depended on how you put one together, they can be heavier than a flag, leaving the tosses to be harder to catch and more painful aswell
Can we just all take a second to admire their dedication This preformance probably took them weeks of practice, and even when they messed up they kept going. As someone who is currently in winter guard and has done it for years, i know riffle is hard. Bravo to these kids!
the reason they are dropping their riffles often is being they have not referenced a focal point in the spin. if you associate a focal point when the riffle is spinning you can better associate where to catch the riffle better (associate better hand placement and reaction time). Associating a focal point when it spins has always helped me catch the riffle so much more accurately.
