- In this video we are going to make a barrel key for this antique three lever desk (or hutch) lock that was sent in.
Our videos are primarily made for locksmith training but we are (well) aware 😂 that many people find our videos when searching for these types of keys.
While SOME locks will work with precut barrel keys like the National D8890 key, not all locks will and in fact trying to use or repeatedly using the wrong key will absolutely damage your lock.
If you are unable to find a local locksmith that does this work please email pictures of your lock (preferably next to a ruler) with your key pricing inquires
There is something really relaxing about watching a key being impressioned. Thanks for this video, cheers
Nice, always love a good antique lock key video!
Great work as always Jason!
Nice work! These are my favorite videos of yours.
First RUclips video after the internet came back up. Now if only the electric would come on.

The hum of generators makes it easy to sleep. No power yet, Wednesday 01:00, but internet just came on (intermittent), that's why this early morning reply. I did check mail, and received your gift of bling 😊 That made my day. Thanks, Jason and Kim.
Lotsa fun making keys by hand sometimes.
I thought about the 3 Tumblers podcast when I read you video description.
Great job, just like all the other one's.

Expert Job. Nice - Awesome - Perfect 🗝 Thanks !
Excellent work Jason. I wonder how hard it would be to rig a Slotter to go straight in like a FRA2.
I could watch you make lever keys all day Jason 😊how long did it take you may I ask just out of curiosity 🤜🤛
@@Nicks-Picks take out the extra 10-15 minutes of talking, repositioning camera, showing how to do it via straight impressioning, etc it’s usually a 15 or so minute make
@@selock nice, I have a few lever cabinet and draw locks without keys......feeling inspired 😁I'll be having a go when I get some blanks. Thanks for sharing Jason and have a great week mate 🙏🤜🤛👍
How do you start the cuts, where do you see how deep they are?
How much would you charge the customer for making a key to a lock like that? I run a key cutters in the UK so quite curious.
@@waywardmedia4491 usually $55-$75 USD in shop typically and in the field can be $125-$175 plus a service charge for their location
Could be fun or frustrating but nicely done.
I know you have been doing this a lot longer than I have but I think I would have filed off the end of the key rather than the top of the tang…I guess the barrel may not be deep enough for that though.
