  • In this video we are going to make a barrel key for this antique three lever desk (or hutch) lock that was sent in.
    Our videos are primarily made for locksmith training but we are (well) aware 😂 that many people find our videos when searching for these types of keys.
    While SOME locks will work with precut barrel keys like the National D8890 key, not all locks will and in fact trying to use or repeatedly using the wrong key will absolutely damage your lock.
    If you are unable to find a local locksmith that does this work please email pictures of your lock (preferably next to a ruler) with your key pricing inquires

      @@Nicks-Picks take out the extra 10-15 minutes of talking, repositioning camera, showing how to do it via straight impressioning, etc it’s usually a 15 or so minute make

    How much would you charge the customer for making a key to a lock like that? I run a key cutters in the UK so quite curious.

      @@waywardmedia4491 usually $55-$75 USD in shop typically and in the field can be $125-$175 plus a service charge for their location

      I know you have been doing this a lot longer than I have but I think I would have filed off the end of the key rather than the top of the tang…I guess the barrel may not be deep enough for that though.
