flat steel key lock locksmith brass antique furniture old lock blah blah blah key
yes the key is not steel, it’s more of a nickel silver/brass mix but flat keys like this have traditionally been called “flat steel” keys regardless of the exact composition of the metal
    err..
Ok in the video we are going to take a look at a antique lever lock dropped off (along with a handful of others that weren’t as exciting to video) to get a key made for
    So here we go….
and yes, if you cannot find a local locksmith that provides this service and need a key made email photos of your lock to selockandkey@gmail.com

This is probably one of the coolest things Jason does because he's helping put antiques back into service.

After getting out of lockpicking and into guitars 4 yrs ago, this is the only lock-related channel I still watch. Great job, Jason! 👊👍 Practical knowledge wins every time. We really appreciate it, sir!
Also, I don't know if you've tried to send me anything recently but I forgot that I moved lol. Whoops! 🤣

When I was a little lad I read about the wax method. I melted candle wax on the blank and watched for the impressions. Then filed. But I also read about the smoke method but it didn't work to well for me.

Even with a stamped code, if the lock can be taken apart, there is no knowing if someone did a rekey in the past, by swapping the levers around, and cut a new working key

Nice, I'm always impressed how well you can finish it off with a file!
It's a very manual process. Can you then make a copy of it with one of your other machines or do you just provide 1 key?

yep, it copies fine just always will require file work
I use it for copying bank SD boxes when people come in needing them

Safe deposit what? A friend of my family went to prison for breaking into night deposit boxes on the sides of banks. I don't recall how they did it. I wanna say they were making keys or something because they were locksmiths. I'll have to ask my mom next time I talk to her.
For whatever reason, when I read safe deposit, it made me think of those night deposit boxes on banks lol. Yea. I dunno either 🤣

@@J.C... Code cards for generating safe deposit and other flat keys. Most night drops are Y1, but that only opens the chute for bigger things. You'd still have to retrieve stuff.
